  1. If the car only got better for a few days the solenoid could be sticking to the point where the spray doens't have a lasting effect, you could try a borrowing a mates solenoid who has had success, then buy a new one and lube it regulary from day one. I'm yet to actually monitor the solenoid duty cycle with the pds and make recordings before and after to get some hard evidence that it works, It feels like it made a difference to my car and other people agree, just wanted some figures just out of curiosity
  2. Thanks mate! Please tell me as much info as you can guys. My boost control is shocking ATM and I get creep up past 1 bar in the top end, and I haven't even fixed my 3" exhaust which has been damaged and is probably restricted to 2.5 inches. How big is your exhaust? Its very difficult to set a flat boost curve how it is. I can't see how you got it ported out 6mm without a new flap valve though. It appears as though there is only about 2 or 3mm overlap with the stock flap. ← I think he said that the circumference was increased by 6mm, if you say there was 2-3mm overlap I imagine that would be plenty because even banking on the smaller option the diameter of the bore is still approx 4mm greater than the flapper, and increase of that diameter could increase the circumference by approx 6mm (circumference of a circle= pie(3.14)xdiameter. keep the updates comming both of you, Im gonna have to do the same mod soon.
  3. Never in any time that Ive openned the turbo section of the workshop manual have I heard ford refer to thermosyphening, I understand the concept and if it is used well that's all well and good, but I agree with rotor motor about the bearings in the turbo being damamged when the oil temp rises after the engine and hence oil pump cease to operate. I spoke to a region SOC (service operations co-ordinator, or something like that) and was told the reason xr's don't come with them is because these cars are built on a budget, If that was the case and the hardware wasn't needed I'm sure ford could have created the engine management to allow the the car to run after a period of "spirited driving". So pretty much each to there own. This and other issues Ive tried to get answers from ford and even being an employee your just a mushroom (kept in the dark and fed sh*t).
  4. Id be going for wastegate issues straight up, what kind of boost are you running to attain those rear wheel kw figures, that's phenominal, A friends car is making the same noise, it had a custom edit 10psi edit done, then since the tune has fitted AVO cooler, 4inch dump, high flow car, and exhaust. It requires a retune as it is overboosting, Ive heard of this problem few times after exhaust/cat mods, and Ive seen cars that have a had a edit for 10psi, then the mods were done and the car was overboosting like no tomorrow, something around 16-18psi from memory, this is no good for standard rods in any model and If you have a mk1 like I do its even worse. Id be getting you car looked at asap mate, Im pretty conservative and would run about only 10-12psi. A few guys will agree, and a few wont but theres no point making bulk horsies that arent reliable unless you have a huge wallet. Good luck mate Cheers Mic
  5. Kristie, let the boy paint his car.hahahaha.
  6. Yeah gav, bring the black down to the body line, but keep the gold pinstripe to match the rims.
  7. Just had a thought, gav you get the drift6 bonnet or a side mount cold air intake similar to the one you had on the EL off the sequential xr8. Ypurv4 could you photo chop that, it would look tits. The reason I ask is I am extremely computer illiterate, and that's no exageration. lol
  8. Gav we've been mates a long time and you know I'm not a big fan of the wank wank two tone bs but honestly what ypurv5 has done looks brilliant, and the gold pin stripe matches the gold centers on the 20's. So when you gonna go midgy to paint it....... Is he still at ellis' or would deano do it???
  9. Race it how you drive it on the street....There are too many skylines and supras that head down the drags, gut the interior and pull the stereo out, others are running slicks and brag about how fast their car is. After all it is street category.
  10. that's a steal mate, go for it.
  11. We had an ex police chaser get traded at our dealership, white xr6t. The only things it had was the police mode digital speedo, and the upgraded brakes with the ford blue/black calipers(not brembos) with the eliptical slotted rotors, but I have seen one other turbo with the same rotors, and as far as I'm away the rotors were the only difference, the calipers were still a 2 piston sliding housing type on the front, and single piston sliding housing on the rear.
  12. Another perfect example of how ferocious a woman can be. "Hell hath no fury such as a woman scorned". Well I think that's how it goes. lol She is just pissed off caues good ol pete refused her a good rogering one night, and wanted some cash and the house, she couldn't make the allegations when he was alive because she knows that she doesn't have a leg to stand on, so is on a mining expedition after now the poor bastard had left the building. Full credit to Bev, top woman.
  13. Everyone has heard the police force deny claims they have a quota and we all know its BS, several weeks ago I was in a friend of mines car, he has a scanner, we overheard a conversation between dispatch officer and the officer in a marked car which had the hair dryer out, on the section of road we just drove down. We heard dispatch officer ask "how are you goin 202?" to which the officer replied "quite good, 2 to go and I will be packing up". So no quota my ASS!
  14. I wasin on gav's install, like he said, not too difficult, make sure you have a die grinder, you have to grind out the section under the battery mount, where the factory aluminium tube runs, due to the avo pipe being a larger diameter, only other structural mod is the from support behind the bumper, again, use the 4" grinder once you have marked out the areas you need to cut, then use the die grinder to finish it off. cheers Mic
  15. I have seen a black 380 getting around my area, low with 19 inch rims, doesn't look too bad actually. Wouldn't mind going for a blap in a blown one. Also there is a few aurion's getting around, trying to make a bigger aussie car to rival the Late model camira and falcon, its never going to match the sales figure of Expensive Daewoo and ford, but the solution is very simple.........rear wheel drive. lol
  16. Myself, 86GAV and a few guys in the central queensland area would make the trip to Brisbane/ Gold coast area for a cruise/dyno day, any excuse for a road trip. Just a quick question, are the official event xr6t specific, or can any ford come? Got a few mates with GT's and GT-P's who make my mechanic wage look even more pittiful then it is and would be interested in spending dollars at wherever the dyno day is. Cheers Mic
  17. Start off with 6.0L if your doin engine oil and filter, start and run it to fill the filter, then top up, should take around 6.3-6.7L all up. The ford power steering pumps are a bit testy in the Ba's, buy a litre of fluid from your dealer, when you top up the fluid in the power steering only open the reserviour when the car is stone cold, if you open it up when its warm/ hot, you can introduce air into the pump and then you will get a shudder. Some cars get it and some cars dont, not sure why. If you do, cause your replacing the belt anyway, cycle the pump manually for 2 mins anti clockwise, then 2 mins clockwise, or until air bubbles stop rising from the reserviour. Also check and make sure that the High pressure hose isn't leaking or the fitting, as there is a revised hose available. If the o ring is leaking you can replace just the fitting, buts its a bastard cause there is an internal circlip that connects to the hose, you have to cut the fitting down then crack it bla bla bla, bottom line, if its leaking pm me and I can give you detail intructions, but be prepared to replace the hose. they are about 230 odd dollars from memory. good luck
  18. At our dealer, we use castrol 15w40, in all the turbo's, I we also stock the castrol edge as well, And I highly recommend it, even at the next service, the oil quality still looks good, considering the long service interval that ford has for the ba.
  19. Im insured with RACQ, no one, just cars laughed at me, Ive had a 6 month suspension, but Ive seen just cars insure friends of mine with worse records. Go figure. I insured me 02 XR6T, manual, factory 18's leather, premium sound, side airbags. For $1600 a year and Im 20 y/o.
  20. Nice colour that, I bought a Mercury silver xr6t Nov 2002 model, I might of paid too much for it, $27,000 but I got everything I wanted, the colour, factory 18's, full leather interior, premium sound, manual trans, and only had 47 200km on the clock, with 2 years extended warrany. Im getting axles done next week cause of the knock in the rear end, it is the axles, excessive torsional freeplay in the inner cv's, cause I work for ford, apparantly I cant work on my own car. lol that's all it needed until I may have given her a flash with 10psi, now the clutch seffers, mal wood here I come....lol
  21. Ive seen a car do something similar, the car came on boost fine and hard, then at approx 3600rpm the car started to surge and almost have a misfire, it was overboosting heavily, I was suspecting the wastegate control solenoid of perhaps pin hole or tear in the actuator diaphragm. The car hasn't been back since, and I was only allowed to spend half an hour on the car as it was customer charge, not warranty and the customer didn't want to spend heaps of coin, Is your car playing up about the same rpm and the one I had? I couldn't download the dyno sheet for some reason. If I come up with anything I will let you know, but the previous posts are on the right track. cheers and goodluck
  22. Get urself an oil filter strap, that works well and doesn't damage the knob, just be careful where you put the strap of whatever you use otherwise you will damage the leather section of the knob
  23. I agree, Ive done 3 or 4, next time I might spend the time and actually try do disassemble the button instead of the normal remove and replace procedure, If I find out what causes It I will put up a post.
  24. and now with the 10psi generic tune, 25L/100km. Ah being on apprentice wages and having a lead foot sucks
  25. yeah mate the job is a piece of piss. short 13mm socket and deep 14mm socket and you will have it done in 5mins
