One of the few negative things l have read about the XR6T is the potential insurance cost. l was pleasently suprised when l went into our local RACV branch last week to get a quote on our XR6T, l was quoted only $481 (our current car, a TS50 is also with the RACV at $850) Should mention we live in country vic, l am 32, my wife 27 and we are both rating 1. Makes me wonder what all the fuss is about, l guess the WRX can be ridiculous to insure, so the XR6T was assumed to be in the same basket. So how has everyone else got on with insurance? Have you been able to better my RACV quote?
  2. Hi Dudes This is my first post on the forum and it seems that I am having an over boost issue and I want to sort it out. So I've got a bf xr6 turbo and after some investigation it turns out it has a turbosmart iwg 75 and seems to want to run around 13 psi. This is setup is run via bypassing the factory solenoid so my plan is to take the wastegate Actuator off and see if I can run a lighter pound spring maybe 5 or 7 and then install a turbosmart boost controller tee for the near future with the plans to run 10 psi So should 1. Take it off with the turbo still on the car 2. Take the turbo and replace the gasket 3. Buy a holden
  3. Hi there needing some knowledge and advice, I've got a 2003 ford ba xr6 turbo auto. I've owned it for around 2 and a half years now and it's always had problems, biggest one is when you put your foot down and hold boost for more than 3 or for seconds it starts to shudder really bad and go into like a limp or safety mode and wants to conk out, only way to stop it doing it is to feather the accelerator numerous times then goes back to normal. No engine lights come up or anything of that sort. I had the spark plugs and Coils changed when I first got it, changed the wastegate, that fixed it for a coupe days then went back to sh*t, changed the wastegate solenoid came good for a few days then went to sh*t again, it started popping and backfiring and over boosting so I changed both map sensors helped it a fair amount but still pops and misses under heavy load and goes into that safety mode again when I hold boost. Really need help and advice on what It could be. Maybe the computer needs a tune or something? Maybe the wastegate flapper isn't opening fully.? It's all stock standard besides a rear muffler delete.. If anyone can help it'd be much appreciated

Hey all, Having a boost issue with my BA (Cooler, 4 inch dump & exhaust, injectors, X4 with custom tune 297kw@14psi, currently running custom 10psi safe tune), 1st will boost to about 5psi the 0psi, 2nd will spool up then 0psi, currently nursing. No fault codes appearing, so far have checked/replaced, -piping, joiners & BOV vacuum lines (replaced the sh*t turbo intake & throttle body joiners & vac lines with silicones and T-bolts) -intake/exhaust & turbo manifold bolts (exhaust manifold bolts were loosish to my suprise) -wastegate solenoid to actuator & turbo lines. (solenoid maintenance at the same time) -wastegate for movement (not sticking) I am leaning towards a failing actuator diaphragm or spring because when I checked that the wastegate was moving it seemed that the spring tension was quite soft (checked the tension on a spare diesel turbo) in comparison. any input is greatly appreciated.
  6. Hi guys. Got a BFII turbo ZF 6spd with 140xxx km, running 60lb dekas and an 11 psi tune. All else it stock. Got a dyno run to see how it is all going, and it came back on the low side. 227 at the rears. The readout showed the boost hitting 11psi and instantly dropping in linear fashion until redline where it reads roughly 7psi or thereabouts. For further testing a mate and I hooked up a boost gauge, which affirmed what the dyno run told us. 11psi down to 7psi over the rev range. What we found out furthermore, is on gearshift the boost returns to 11psi and drops again at higher rpm. So if you ran through the gears on the dyno the boost graph would look like a mountain range. I called the dyno operator up, and he seemed to think either the stock dump and cat are too small (tried to sell me his 4 inch dump and high flow cat for a grand), or the stock actuator is worn out and opening under the pressure. Does this sound about right to you learned scholars? From what I have read thus far from others experiences on here, I am thinking actuator. Lastly- is 11-12 psi too much for the stock flapper to control? Thanks for your time
  7. hey there abit confused with what mods I need done on the turbo? I understand it has an internal wastegate, what needs to be done to get an external wastegate done? does the turbo need to be bored out for an exhaust? and the actuator whats the go with all 3 im abit confused atm.. looking at a 4inch dump to a 3inch system x force and love the sound of external gate? please open to suggestions and help!
