XR6 Turbo Insurance: Premiums, Insurers & Advice
SGIO is shocking. Renewal for house insurance was higher than taking out a new policy with them! So much for customer loyalty. They just prey on the fact people will renew their existing policy each year. They would have beaten RAC's quote by 10% but I still chose RAC for my car insurance. Protip: Always look around for quotes each year before renewing, INCLUDING your current insurer!

Fg Mk2 Touch Screen
I've had a look into it briefly but I don't think its possible to get *any* external video input except for the reverse camera (which well... only works when its in reverse). The BA/BF/FGMk1 all had a provision for external video input because the sat nav option required it. Since the satnav on the mkIIs is built in to the operating system (I reckon the whole thing runs some derivative of Windows CE since the satnav is remarkably like iGo) there is no need for video input so why would Ford spend the extra to have it there? Now, if someone could somehow hack in to get access to the underlying OS, and it is infact WinCE (or similar) you could possibly write your own app or use an existing one. It would need access to the OBDII port though which means it needs a USB-OBDII adapter... Would the USB port for music work for that then? Does the ICC already have access to the CAN bus to control the aircon, tell the ECU to disable traction control when you press the button and so on? If I had endless funds, a spare ICC unit, and lots of time I would find out But for now, its easier to just use gauges, or a tablet and a wifi/BT obdII dongle.

Fg Mk11 Icc Bugs ?
http://www.ford.com.au/bluetooth-and-ipod Not all phones support all features. Voice dialing isn't supported unless you have an iphone 4 or newer. Mine doesn't come up with the caller id on my 3GS. Otherwise I've had no issues with bluetooth. I have had issues playing music off a usb drive though. Sometimes it just "breaks". Can't open the file browsing menu, if I switch to FM radio, then I can no longer get to any of the media key features (Aux in, BT, USB, etc). Can't change from FM. Can't turn the stereo off! Volume and FM presets etc still work though. Turning the car off and opening the door (to turn off the stereo) and then starting it again fixes it. Bit of a pain as you can't do this while driving! Not sure if its a particular mp3 files causing it, the fact its a USB3.0 drive, or just dodgy ICC software. It's probably still running the software version it came with when build in Feb The only thing I have to complain about is: the lack of subwoofer. Didn't care for the premium audio as I'll probably get a proper system installed sometime. Also, anything on the left hand side of the screen is a bit of a reach when driving. Does anyone know what size speakers are in the FG? And the mkII has the tweeters in the A-pillars now on the standard audio option. Is this run off an external crossover or connected directly to the ICC? Will have to do a good search based on the premium option in the mk1 before I muck around changing speakers

New Members: Introduce Yourself
The DSC/traction control in the FGs seems to kick in pretty quickly. I can put my foot down around corners and it cuts in pretty quick as soon as grip is lost. Don't drive like a looney in the rain with the DSC off and you will enjoy a safe ride

Ba Xr6T Premium Sound - Mp3 / Galaxy Siii Connectivity Options?
Aftermarket headunit in the tissue box holder area. You can get plastic fascia brackets for ~$30-40 that look nice. If you don't want to rewire all the speakers to the new headunit you could just wire the headunit pre-outs to the Aux input. That way you get all the features of the headunit (MP3, ipod control, bluetooth etc) without the hassles (but you still have the sound quality issues. The whine noise is a pain in the BA/BF).

Fg Mki "edge" Pics?
Was supposed to be a link to a search for "edge". Should be a few private sales that have better non-generic photos. There's also the forum Gallery and Garage sections to trawl through.

Intermittant Power Loss In Throttle
I doubt its a blocked cat. I had that happen on my NA BF XR6. Would happily rev out to the limiter in park, but once you're driving down the road (putting some load on the motor) it hit a massive wall at 4500-5000rpm and just wouldn't rev further. Failure Mode The Failure Mode Effects Management (FMEM) strategy will, in most cases, ensure normal operation of the vehicle if one of the PPS potentiometers fail. The ETC warning light will flash. If two or more sensors fail, the ETC will default to limp home part throttle mode. The appropriate trouble code will be logged in memory for retrieval during Self-test mode. Not sure if its the PPS if the above doesn't happen. I'll PM you a link to a PDF with the sections on the throttle Same goes for the TPS. Should flash the ETC warning light if it detects a fault.

Fg T , Weird Clunk When First Taking Off?
My BF always made the "clunk clunk clunk" noises in quick succession. Always sounded like it was coming from the front left tyre. It was just the ABS self test (it's in the user manual as well). Most of the time I didn't even notice it. I haven't noticed it in my FG mk2 in the few days I've had it so far though.

Intermittant Power Loss In Throttle
The pedal itself has 3 position "sensors" inside (basically variable resistor/potentiometers). If the readings from the three vary by more than a few percent the ECU detects it as an error. It's basically a safety feature in case you pedal stuffs up. Not sure if it would generate a fault code to be read via the OBD2 port. If you can get a copy of the BA manual, search it for "PPS" - Pedal Position Sensor. Its the part that the pedal connects to that sends the throttle demand signal to the PCM. I'd say its either that, or the TPS.

2012 MkII XR6T ex-demo with a massive 4,500kms on it :D Picked it up today and I'm lovin' it.

Launch Control
It's not just a rev limiter. Drops half the cylinders as well apparently. Not sure why Ford even bother? I don't think its even mentioned anywhere as an advertised feature.

XR6 Turbo Insurance: Premiums, Insurers & Advice
RAC Insurance 2012 FG MkII XR6T Sedan Agreed Value: $45k Excess: $450 Western Australia, Perth 23yro male with clean driving record, no prior claims etc. $920p/a Pretty happy with that. Those insurance comparison sites are useless. One I tried only came back with 3 options (probably by insurance companies that "sponsor" the site) of $3000, $3500, and $4500!? SGIO quoted me ~$1500 for the same coverage and excess levels as RAC... Pays to just try every single online quote system. I also rang up RAC to take out the insurance rather than online as I had a few quesions. Ended up being a few dollars less than the online quote (which has a $35 discount for doing it online...). Madness.

Launch Control
Get in, start 'er up, clutch in, foot to the floor Shouldn't be hard to tell if it has launch control!

Ba Xr6 Turbo Will Not Start
My BF Falcon had starting issues with a half dead battery, but it just made a really loud ticking/clunking noise as the starter can't turn over properly. After going through a battery every year, one morning it just would not start. All I could hear was the starter relay clicking faintly. Ended up being a cactus starter motor. Had it towed and replaced. Now it starts like new and I realised how bad its been the last 2 years... First things you check are battery voltage when cranking, ground connections, and then the starter motor. Give the starter motor a whack with something while someone tries to start it and sometimes you can get some life out of it (so you know for sure its the starter).

In The Market, Fg Xr6T. Sell The Fg To Me! (Merged Topic)
I had the same decision to make recently so I've had a look at both. Comparison's so far are pretty spot on. SS-V interior is nice, SS interior isn't so great. I'd rate the cloth seats and interior of the FG in-between. Didn't like the Expensive Daewoo auto in comparison to the ZF in the ford. The manual in the SS is what I would have gone for. Expensive Daewoo were selling the SS sedan with a 5yr warranty for $41,500 before EOFY. So it's a bit cheaper than an XR6T (again between an SS and SS-V...) Ended up going with an ex-demo XR6T mk2 with less than 5,000kms on it for a few grand less than the SS Can't beat that turbo rush. It's a pity the sportswagon commands such a premium over the sedan, otherwise I'd have been very tempted to go to the dark side haha. I have a weird soft spot for fast wagons In terms of an everyday stock daily driver (as in a nice place to be) SS-V or Lux Pack XR6T > Standard XR6T > SS tl;dr go drive both cars and see for yourself!

Looking For A First Car.
I've got a BF XR6 as my first car although its a 4 speed auto (not many ex-demo/lease ones have the 6 speed). The last 6 months driving, the only near accidents I've had are other people on the road almost hitting me. The only way I can see you having an accident by yourself in one of these is either losing control while speeding or losing it in the wet. Oh and the whole Auto vs Manual drag thing, have you ever considered that the Auto is only 4 speed while the manual is 5? First gear in the 4sp autos revs out to 90km/h or so. I believe the 5sp manual is aroun 75-80? The extra 5k or so to get a turbo is worth it but not when you factor in insurance if you are a p-plater. You are better off getting an XR6 and either trading it in for a turbo later, or doing a complete engine swap.

"corner" A-pillar Gauge Pods
where abouts are you located? I might be interested if you can't get any body else. I don't really need a gauge holder since mines just a plain XR6...

Apple Ipod Thread (Merged Topic)
I just have mine sitting in the ipod dock below where the tissue box holder is With a short custom made 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable going to my home made aux in.

Painting Intercooler
Black will absorb AND give off heat better than any other colour. So if the cooler is hotter than the surrounding environment, painting it black will mean it loses heat more efficiently. Atleast that's what yr 11 physics taught me I dont think it makes much of a difference.

Led Brake/tail Lights
Does anyone know what the standard bulbs are? I've seen a lot of LED brake/reverse/signal lights on ebay etc that replace bayonet cap style lights...

Apple Ipod Thread (Merged Topic)
I reckon you should have a go at making the non-boosted cable yourself first for $5. THEN if you get engine whine/noise pay the $100... IN my BF, my $5 cable works fine with no noise whatsoever. The only "downside" is that the volume has to be turned up about 7-8 more levels that normal for the same volume.

Installing The Aux Cable
I just made the cable myself for a grand total of $5 in parts. In my BF xr6 I get no whine at all :D If anyone wants me to make a guide on making one, I can and some lucky person can buy the extra one I make for cheap

Custom Stereo Install
nevermind... just found a topic on it elsewhere that I couldn't find when I searched. Silly me
