  1. Did all the BF turbo models come with the 6speed auto? Very early model non-turbos had the 4sp standard with the 6sp as an option. After driving a 4sp auto BF XR6 for 5 years and then moving into an FG turbo with the ZF, I realised what I was missing out on the whole time.
  2. SGIO is shocking. Renewal for house insurance was higher than taking out a new policy with them! So much for customer loyalty. They just prey on the fact people will renew their existing policy each year. They would have beaten RAC's quote by 10% but I still chose RAC for my car insurance. Protip: Always look around for quotes each year before renewing, INCLUDING your current insurer!
  3. I've had a look into it briefly but I don't think its possible to get *any* external video input except for the reverse camera (which well... only works when its in reverse). The BA/BF/FGMk1 all had a provision for external video input because the sat nav option required it. Since the satnav on the mkIIs is built in to the operating system (I reckon the whole thing runs some derivative of Windows CE since the satnav is remarkably like iGo) there is no need for video input so why would Ford spend the extra to have it there? Now, if someone could somehow hack in to get access to the underlying OS, and it is infact WinCE (or similar) you could possibly write your own app or use an existing one. It would need access to the OBDII port though which means it needs a USB-OBDII adapter... Would the USB port for music work for that then? Does the ICC already have access to the CAN bus to control the aircon, tell the ECU to disable traction control when you press the button and so on? If I had endless funds, a spare ICC unit, and lots of time I would find out But for now, its easier to just use gauges, or a tablet and a wifi/BT obdII dongle.
  4. http://www.ford.com.au/bluetooth-and-ipod Not all phones support all features. Voice dialing isn't supported unless you have an iphone 4 or newer. Mine doesn't come up with the caller id on my 3GS. Otherwise I've had no issues with bluetooth. I have had issues playing music off a usb drive though. Sometimes it just "breaks". Can't open the file browsing menu, if I switch to FM radio, then I can no longer get to any of the media key features (Aux in, BT, USB, etc). Can't change from FM. Can't turn the stereo off! Volume and FM presets etc still work though. Turning the car off and opening the door (to turn off the stereo) and then starting it again fixes it. Bit of a pain as you can't do this while driving! Not sure if its a particular mp3 files causing it, the fact its a USB3.0 drive, or just dodgy ICC software. It's probably still running the software version it came with when build in Feb The only thing I have to complain about is: the lack of subwoofer. Didn't care for the premium audio as I'll probably get a proper system installed sometime. Also, anything on the left hand side of the screen is a bit of a reach when driving. Does anyone know what size speakers are in the FG? And the mkII has the tweeters in the A-pillars now on the standard audio option. Is this run off an external crossover or connected directly to the ICC? Will have to do a good search based on the premium option in the mk1 before I muck around changing speakers
  5. The DSC/traction control in the FGs seems to kick in pretty quickly. I can put my foot down around corners and it cuts in pretty quick as soon as grip is lost. Don't drive like a looney in the rain with the DSC off and you will enjoy a safe ride
  6. Aftermarket headunit in the tissue box holder area. You can get plastic fascia brackets for ~$30-40 that look nice. If you don't want to rewire all the speakers to the new headunit you could just wire the headunit pre-outs to the Aux input. That way you get all the features of the headunit (MP3, ipod control, bluetooth etc) without the hassles (but you still have the sound quality issues. The whine noise is a pain in the BA/BF).
  7. Was supposed to be a link to a search for "edge". Should be a few private sales that have better non-generic photos. There's also the forum Gallery and Garage sections to trawl through.
  8. I doubt its a blocked cat. I had that happen on my NA BF XR6. Would happily rev out to the limiter in park, but once you're driving down the road (putting some load on the motor) it hit a massive wall at 4500-5000rpm and just wouldn't rev further. Failure Mode The Failure Mode Effects Management (FMEM) strategy will, in most cases, ensure normal operation of the vehicle if one of the PPS potentiometers fail. The ETC warning light will flash. If two or more sensors fail, the ETC will default to limp home part throttle mode. The appropriate trouble code will be logged in memory for retrieval during Self-test mode. Not sure if its the PPS if the above doesn't happen. I'll PM you a link to a PDF with the sections on the throttle Same goes for the TPS. Should flash the ETC warning light if it detects a fault.
  9. My BF always made the "clunk clunk clunk" noises in quick succession. Always sounded like it was coming from the front left tyre. It was just the ABS self test (it's in the user manual as well). Most of the time I didn't even notice it. I haven't noticed it in my FG mk2 in the few days I've had it so far though.

  11. The pedal itself has 3 position "sensors" inside (basically variable resistor/potentiometers). If the readings from the three vary by more than a few percent the ECU detects it as an error. It's basically a safety feature in case you pedal stuffs up. Not sure if it would generate a fault code to be read via the OBD2 port. If you can get a copy of the BA manual, search it for "PPS" - Pedal Position Sensor. Its the part that the pedal connects to that sends the throttle demand signal to the PCM. I'd say its either that, or the TPS.
  12. 2012 MkII XR6T ex-demo with a massive 4,500kms on it :D Picked it up today and I'm lovin' it.
  13. It's not just a rev limiter. Drops half the cylinders as well apparently. Not sure why Ford even bother? I don't think its even mentioned anywhere as an advertised feature.
  14. RAC Insurance 2012 FG MkII XR6T Sedan Agreed Value: $45k Excess: $450 Western Australia, Perth 23yro male with clean driving record, no prior claims etc. $920p/a Pretty happy with that. Those insurance comparison sites are useless. One I tried only came back with 3 options (probably by insurance companies that "sponsor" the site) of $3000, $3500, and $4500!? SGIO quoted me ~$1500 for the same coverage and excess levels as RAC... Pays to just try every single online quote system. I also rang up RAC to take out the insurance rather than online as I had a few quesions. Ended up being a few dollars less than the online quote (which has a $35 discount for doing it online...). Madness.
  15. Get in, start 'er up, clutch in, foot to the floor Shouldn't be hard to tell if it has launch control!
