Toyota $hit Me, Something Chronic...
A recent thread on Toyota in the V8 Supercars section got me to thinking about how some Ford/Expensive Daewoo types loath Toyota. So do I. I think Toyota is the automotive equivalent of a virus. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a racist issue. In my previous job, I worked for one of the worlds largest Japanese Electronics Corporation’s and I have nothing but the uttermost respect for the Japanese people and their culture. Toyota are just rip off artists. Mitsubishi makes a 4WD begins with P ends in O. A few years later Toyota releases a clone, begins with ‘P’ ends in ‘O’, Pajero becomes Prado, soon Verada becomes Vienta. Many years earlier a car similar to the Land Rover also starts with ‘Land’ ends in ‘er’. The Land Cruiser is born. What is the most popular Celica ever, oh yes it’s the ‘Mustang’ shape from the late 70’s. Now the Klunker sorry Klugger looks and Spec’s up so much like a Subaru Forrester it defies belief. Don’t get me started on the 6 year old, US ugly assed clunker, which when superseded Toyota shipped the tooling to Oz and flogged them off as the most Australian car since the P76, but fortunately Australians are not so easily fooled, no Avalons for us. Then there are the spin off Lexus that either look like 3 series BM’s or Merc’s. My greatest worry is that if Toyota become the most dominant manufacture in the world and puts their competitors out of business they will have no one to copy cars and their names from, and we will still be driving the same car for decades, just look at the Landcruiser ute. It hasn’t really changed for 18 years. :banghead: Sure their cars are well thrown together, but they lack spirit and are nothing more than fine tuned versions of a car someone else released a few years earlier. White goods on wheels cars for A to B people. They spend more on marketing than Holden, convincing us the cars they sell are ‘theirs’. What do you lot reckon?

Thoughts And Opinions?
I think people who work at Ford spares and have access to staff discount priced XR8 air cleaners and FPV pedals etc etc just to make other forum members jealous should be outlawed. But for the reasons you have listed it would be a good idea, and would look great. How much would Joe Public expect to pay for such a modification?

My Premium Sound Stacker Ate My Cd,s
The wife came home on Wednesday and said "the CD player in the car freaked out, probably all that 'Angry Music' you listen to" Sure enough all Cd's are there but just keeps saying Eject and goes from Cd to CD trying to eject them. Call local ford dudes "Hmmm, bring it in and we will check it look at serial numbers and order an exchange unit if reqd" To which I reply "Brakes are shuddering again too, do you have a fix for that yet? " Ford dude "No fix, just machine, soonest we can look at it, thursday next week." Hmmmmm. Anyway whilest driving about today, listening to the radio, the ICC started beeping and clunking and spat out a CD. Then worked fine, even gave me back all my CD's.....weird.

Please Help Save My T.....
Thanks 56Mainline we got almost all the way thru another page with no 'useful' suggestions. I knew when I saw Ken & Redhawk posting it would be all downhill... should be some rule limiting people who have changed their names to one post per day. The sultanas are a good idea as he likes them. I give him half of one of those All Natural No preservitives or Colours Australian Made type animal lollies and they seem to make him happy when he has been sitting for too long. And given in moderation they never get a chance to hit the leather. He used to sit in the middle in a Baby seat, hence he could kick the back/side of both front seats. Now his brother has that and he sits to one side in a 15-26kg person seat so his is futher back and his feet can't reach the seat in front...yet....brilliant, then when he can a seat protector thingy.. Yes it is just a car, but I have been doing some research on the internet and the kids may have a better resale value than the car.. .... but the Mrs will need some convincing.

Please Help Save My T.....
It was worth a try... tongueboy, citric acid xr6t, ducatijb, you are all scaring me. To all the others ...thanks. I will give the big back seat cover a go. I got some big neoprene sheets to put under the baby seats to protect the upholstry, when I got the car. I tried the no food rule but it is hard to make any kind of decent journey without... But when they get old enough to reason with and comprehend the term WAIT I may be in with a chance. I am tall and so is Jr so there is no way I can fit in the car with the seat far enough away from him to stop his kicking. And yes, no matter how totally cr@p a day I have had at work it all just fades away when you see that happy face pressed up against the sliding door beaming back at me, and so pleased to see me when I get home. :D

Please Help Save My T.....
Ok, my XR6T is the best car I have ever owned, I have had 2 other new cars, both more expensive. But I love my T. My problem is this, I have a 16-month-old son and another who is 2 weeks old, and they do not share the same respect for the car as I do. As some of you may be aware I have recently returned from a few weeks overseas and when I returned there was enough crumbs in the back of the XR to sustain a boatload of illegal immigrants for a week. Now I sat my 16 month old son down and spoke with him about respecting other peoples property, explained to him that the car was not cheap, not eating in the car, not using the electric window switches as a footrest, not scratching his fingers on the leather door trims because he enjoys the sound, wiping his feet before kicking the back of the front seats ect. But I fear it all goes in one ear and out the other, the only thing he has to say for himself is Dad, dad, dad. Are any members with experience in these matters able to offer and tricks or tips? Or do I just mellow out and take the money the family gives them for his birthday and put it towards a GT when they get old enough to behave? Please don’t tell me I will have to wait 15years for that to happen.

Meet And Greet
Ok then...now that Ken is not comming count me in. Actually our new baby was due tomorrow so I assumed I would not be able to come along, but due to complications she was induced 2 weeks ago and we have another son, and I can come. But I am in charge of our 16 month old son, so I will 'pop' in and say hi at 11 and stay until Jr gets cranky. See you all on sunday.

Weird Question
We also flick a light switch down to turn it on, in the states down is off... You have no idea how infuriating that is when trying to answer the call of nature in the middle of the night, because you are wide awake. because the time is all wrong...it is almost always yesterday there..

Thanks Ponch, that was an excellent and comprehensive explanation to something that always perplexed me....I will sleep better at night thanks to you.

Ask Ponch
(plonky @ Nov 6 2003, 08:57 AM ) I understand that, but....are you saying that, If I was driving along in my wife’s old fully insured EA and some fool pulls out from a stop/give way sign and then sees me and props jutting into the intersection. I would be within my rights to drive straight ahead, crash into them with no legal ramifications? Just the risk to life and limb. .. :o Seems odd to me. I know of 2 people who did not give way or pulled out of a parking spot, saw the oncoming car and stoped but the oncoming driver was not paying attention, had at least 5 secs to react and did not. Surely some blame rest with them as well, or is it not possible to issue both parties a TIN? If you make a mistake at low speed situations it is better to keep going and cut the other driver off, rather than rely on them to avoid you.

Ask Ponch
This is cool, I was going to suggest such a thing previously. But thought perhaps you might not appreciate me 'volunteering' you to answer everybody’s weird ass questions. Also your frequent references to porn concern me. I have 2 questions both of which are a bit long winded...... sorry. 1. If Mr X was driving along with your brain in neutral and pulled out from a Give way/ Stop sign intersection and someone collides with him. Then no argument MrX is at fault. But how long should the oncoming traffic have to react. That is if you started to pull out thought the better of it and the oncoming traffic had 'sufficient' opportunity to stop or change lanes (where possible) but also had brain in neutral and did not, take evasive action would they also be a candidate for a Neg driving certificate? 2. I was in the LA last month and was being driven about by a friend in Laguna Beach in his 330Ci (b@stard). Anyway he performed a dubious lane change and in the process almost collided with a stationary patrol car. Needless to say the followed us for a chat. They were however EXTREEMLY polite, "please and sir, we need to look out for each other on the road...etc". Whilst still leaving now doubt who was in a position of authority and who was in big trouble. Now the last time I was pulled over for a stern talking to was about 10 years ago aged about 20. And of course may times before that when on my P's, but that’s what you get for being 17 and driving a V8 in a small country town. I do not remember the NSW police being anywhere near as polite. Is this still the case, and do you fell this is appropriate?

Belconnen T Auto Owners Pls Read
I got mine from Woden. The B@$tards at Gragorys could not be bothered returning my calls after they discovered I was a fleet buyer. I would not send my mother in law there. I found McGraths at Woden to be excelent. However I have been snooping at new cars and colours since and found the Belconen sales folk to be somewhat ill informed.

Go The New Xr6-t!
Ken, I thought one of the conditions of your parole was that you stayed away from buoy's. Buoy good to have you here, I have a mate with a VL Calais turbo, who also calls my car the new VL, I just knew he didn't think of that himself...

Radio Controlled Xr6
They usually use clear covers you paint whatever colour you want. You paint them on the inside so you cant scratch the paint off when you crash them. You can probably get a BA V8 supercar body and make it look like an XR6T. Here is a pic of my "toy" my beloved got me for my birthday, I now have a Ford 150 body for it of course.

Dealer Complaints
I have no problems with service they always fix my problems the first time I ask. They know what they/I am talking about, admit they have a problem and fix it. Without trying to bull$hit me. The total opposite of the service dept at the Mitsubishi dealer or the Expensive Daewoo dealer before that... :banghead:

New Car For Me...maybe
Wife still drives an EA S. Good car, not as bad as people make out. 155,000ks small oil leak from timing case cover, clutch and a drivers window winder mechanism. All fixed without much drama and the bits for it are dirt cheap new from Ford, no point going to a wreckers. Need to keep on top of wheel allignment. And also keep the coolant changed regularly and if temp gauge moves past normal. Get the radiator tanks taken off and the core cleaned, or else radiator slowly fills with gunk and it will overheat and head gasket will blow. We cleaned the radiator at 100,000ks and have had no head problems, ever... 5 gorillas seems a bit much for a 13 year old car. What Ed said is right I remember they had problems with the climate control when they were new. :( Keep looking for an EB or ED with same ks for thet money, or talk em down on that one.
