  1. Definitly a higher ratio of XR's here in Canberra. On the way home from work on Friday driving from Woden to Bonython (about 15 k's) I saw 5. 2 Blueprint, 2 Phantom and a Mercury. Yesterday I went to Sydney and between Campbeltown and Rydalmere (probably 40k's). And only saw 2 XR's, a pittyful effort Sydney.
  2. ..and perhaps on the way back she could get a load of manure for the rose garden.. :D :D :D
  3. I guess there are benefits to getting a boring coloured car. Wife forbid the purchase of a purple car, I tried I vain to convince her it was not purple it was Phantom. Anyway I actually scrunched the bottom of the front spoiler the first week I had the car (used to derive a tall 4wd). When I checked there was no damage at all, amazing. White scratches on white paint...invisible, excellent.
  4. I bought my XR at the other place in town. I found them to be far better than Gregory's who didn’t even have any brochures to give me. And on their quote charged me for premium paint, which I discovered in my brochure I got from McGrath’s was a no cost option on the XR's. That combined with disinterested salesmen turned me off G.F in the city. But perhaps they aren’t interested in fleet sales... But you have to wonder whe Mc's have very few XR's on display, and G.F.I.T.C have heaps, perhaps one dealer is selling all of their cars and the other is not....
  5. Count me in too. Easter is full of family stuff and the Anzac weekend is the Rally of Canberra though.
  6. It feels like I am letting everybody down. :( I don't drive Miss Daisy, I am giving by XR6T a thrashing everyday, after driving it gently to warm up of course. I get the traction control flashing like a Christmas tree on roundabouts. Race off from the lights even if I'm the only one there, just to hear the exhaust note. But try as I might after 6,000ks I can't get my Brakes to shudder. Coolant tank is still green. ..and the worst fuel economy I can manage is 18L/100k's, and that was towing a car trailer. Can anybody offer any suggestions ...... no I will not lend you my car for a week.
  7. I got my XR6T at McGraths in woden, went to Gregorys, test drove an NA, called the salesman 3 times but he never called me back. I waited an extra month to get a 2003 model (ordered in Oct) and when it turned up in January it was a 2002 model. Apparently the factory got ahead of schedule. They said take this or go back to the end of the line and wait till April, :o McGraths blamed Ford. Used to live in Cooma and all the people I knew actually got their cars from Tara Ford in Bega! With my last car (Patrol). Bought in Bega too. It was actually cheaper to take the day off drive down to Bega get the car serviced, have lunch at the beach. Than it was to get the Car serviced in Canberra. :o
  8. Nope wasn't me. Must be two in town. Mine is an auto with leather, premium sound and a towbar. And I live in Tuggeranong, so I would put too many k's on the XR by the time I got all the way to Jamison.
  9. I think we should start a poll..... to see if Chrislak should change his nic to BIGFOOT.
  10. And then there is my White XR6T, had it two months now. Permanent silly grin is starting to fade.... :D ... starting.
  11. chrislak must have a big right foot. My XR6T Auto gets between 12 and 15 around town, with a bit of letting friends take it for a drive, to make them feel bad about buying Commodores or large 4WD's. A long trip Canberra to Parkes and back sitting on 110 to 120 got 10.8 indicated or (9.5L/100 actual). This included full throttle acceleration out of every town and after all roadworks, still addicted to that Turbo acceleration, and exhaust note. Even towing another car on a trailer I couldn't get worse than 18.5 indicated. This included travelling between 90 and 100 (90 cause it was raining). Got to love the expression on the faces of the other drivers in their little buzboxes who pulled out on the overtaking lanes. Got beside me, then dropped back when I didnt slow down for the steep hills, but they did. The XR6T has a lot of grunt, it just dropped back a gear to about 3000rpm and kept at 100kph. Like I said you must have a big foot, or there is something up with your car.
  12. Another thing to be aware of with fuel cards and XR6T's is don’t put them in the card holder under the centre console lid. Cause if you park your car in the sun like I did the black console gets so hot my BP and bent like a Banana and stayed that way after the car spent just two days outside in the sun all day. (It usually lives in the garage) My car is also white so doesn’t get as hot as a Phantom or Black car.
  13. I intend to put a boost gauge in my car using a clock surround from a Fairmont. That is mount it at the top of the dash above the centre air vents it should look almost factory, when I find the right size gauge.

    Nick Names

The names of the colour in the 70’s were also much longer. That colour is called Peel Me A Grape (Purple). Other colours included Am Eye Blue (pale Blue) Home On The Range (Bright Orange) Bold as Brass (Bright Yellow). It’s a great car for cruising with an alloy V8, dual exhausts, heaps of space, and only weighs 1,300kg. :D The photo was taken before I bought the car, the lady next door (to the seller) came out in her dressing gown to keep a closer eye on proceedings??

Hmm… I didn’t realise you were supposed to put so much thought into it. YCL is quick is just the 1st 3 letters on my number plate, but then almost all cars registered in Canberra in the last 6 months start with YCL. So I still have some anonymity. I have an XR6T, they did not have Citric Acid or Blood Orange when I ordered my car back in October. I wanted Phantom but my wife did not, and since I already have a purple Australian made car, winter white was the final choice. Here is a pic of my other car, you may all be able to contain the sheep, Late model camira and escort jokes, but I’ll bet you can’t resist making jokes about this...
  16. Richdave, I always get my wife to run in each new car for me. Similar to you I am going overseas for a few weeks for training and she will drive it while Im away. She is a careful driver. Also dosen't have to worry about the size of her *beep*, so is not threatened if someone beates her off the lights. Unlike me. She parks miles away in the far corner of the mall carpark, away from trollies and other car doors. As for the baby spew, that's why you get the hose out leather interior. Anyway I had a look at your web page, and your wife is way too good looking to be married to you, so there has to be some fringe benefits. (no offence intended, she is very pretty though)
  17. I found the same piece of paper the day I got my car as well, next to the exhaust, kinda scorched. I think it is just something they stick on the edge of the bonnet as the car goes down the assembly line. It has the vin, sido, trim, engine, and gearbox codes. The reject field on my car was blank.
  18. I have noticed on my XR6T SSS with the trip computer set to instant, that it uses less fuel coasing downhill in 3 rather than 4. Anybody else find that? Also if you reset the trip comp each tank the L/100 indicated is always over a litre more than what it actually is, ie fuel added divided by ks driven. Anybody else find that?

    Sat Nav

Sat nav not in the boot. Its under the front passengers seat.
  20. The front passengers door trim on my car had a small gap, about 2mm all along the rear edge of the leather where the handle met. It may not sound much but, behind it is white foam or plastic so it was the first thing you saw when you sat in the passengers seat. I took it back and told the sales manager who laughed and said yeah right, but when he saw it, ordered a replacement and fixed it within a week. :D I think you have to report trim faults within the first week, or no joy. Other than that my car is perfect. You also get plenty of spares. I found an extra nut under the bonnet near the ABS and a few clips under the carpet and back seat when I put the phone in. I guess the assembly line moves too fast to pick up anything you drop.
  21. Are you sure that's how it happens? I remember reading somewhere (Motor or Wheels Probably) that the BA XR's are the first to be built entirely on the production line, and not finished at Tickford/FPV, with the exception of things like sunroofs... Also there is a link on the New Falcon website http://203.89.210.4/ that lets you enter the VIN or SIDO of your car and once it has been built they email you pics of it being built....very cool. Looking at the pic of my car getting its driveline fitted, even though it is a low res pic you can still see something under a heat shield with an exhaust pipe coming out of it, looks like a turbocharger to me. But I have been wrong before. I ordered mine in late Oct, told it would come in early Dec so I thought if I had to wait. I might as well wait for a 2003 model in mid Jan (better resale, one day far from now). But the rotten sods at Geelong were too efficeint and got ahead of schedule and built it in late Dec. I was told if I wanted a 2003 car to go to the end of the que and wait till April. Yes I am another fleet buyer. No I did not wait till April. Yes I love my XR6T.
