Thoughts And Opinions?

I am thinking about putting a genuine GT bar on my XR6T. I have very good reasons why I want to, and one of them is NOT to look like a GT!!! I love the GT, dont get me wrong, but I am not trying to imitate one. Here are the reasons why:

Increased airflow to intercooler, radiator etc due to bigger intake mouth on GT bars as opposed to standard XR bars.

The genuine FPV mesh can be attached easily to the GT bar, providing some much needed protection for the intercooler, radiator etc.

With summer on its way, if I can increase airflow to the cooling system, it will be a good thing I reckon.

What is everyone's opinion of this? Obviously the purists will be a little upset with me doing it, but if I am flamed down in a big way, I will not go ahead. I still want to be invited to cruises and BBQ's!!!

My flame suit is on. Honest thoughts and opinions please!

Go for it MS, if you think it would be practical, your the one who paid $50k for the car you can do what you like. I think it will look awesome. You may do it on one condition..... YOU POST PICS OF IT!!!

:oooh: Good on ya

Mate, go for it. A little bit of indiviuality can only make a greater head turning power, always good. And dont worry what other ppl think, its what your happy with. And after all, like glennxr6t said, who paid $50k for thing?

I think people who work at Ford spares and have access to staff discount priced XR8 air cleaners and FPV pedals etc etc just to make other forum members jealous should be outlawed. :oooh:

But for the reasons you have listed it would be a good idea, and would look great. :oooh:

How much would Joe Public expect to pay for such a modification?

These are trade prices, to be honest if you are paying this much coin for parts, and your local ford dealer isnt willing to do trade for you, walk away!!!

Front bar unpainted = $2281.13

Mesh = $576.93

Fog lamp surrounds = $181.12 pair

As far as I can tell this is all you need to do the conversion, ill let you know if you need anything else!!! :oooh:

Cheap as chips!

Roughly $3k, and how much improvement do you really expect to see? I am all for individuality etc, but $/kw is far more important to me.

And those were trade prices!

ms700,

complete it & put a Fairlane boot lid on as well. Why don't you just by GTP parts one at a time & slowly intergrate the into your T so as no one will notice.

I don't see how it would increase airflow. The top grilles are the same size as far as I can make out and the lower is just an upside-down version of what an XR already has. I haven't run a tape measure over both cars, maybe you have and I'm wrong.

I personally wouldn't do it for a number of reasons. To me it would look like a try hard GT and it would look odd and you would have a FPV logo lower grille in a non-FPV car which is wrong IMO. The second, probaly the biggest reason is the cost. Not very good bang for your bucks. If you were that worried about airflow you could buy a trick PWR (or similar) radiator and intercooler and have enough change left over to buy a few slabs of amber fluid. :beerchug: I think calling it rice is a bit over the top though.

Hey it's your car and your money mate, you do with it what you like. I'll still go cruising with you!
