  1. I've worked with a few roid rage looking IT guys, mainly from outsourcers, they are good for doing the grunt work like racking Servers. I have also worked with a very small number of female IT people who were in most cased a metric f*ck tonne better than the blokes they worked with, it's just too bad most go off and have kids but never come back to IT. I blame the long hours - it's not uncommon to have 6AM starts and if you are really lucky and the sh1t hits the fan, all-nighters into the early morning or longer - which you can understand they might not want to be doing the second time around. Also a lot of the females are tomboys, so you don't have to be tiptoeing politically correctly all the time, you can actually have a joke with them.
  2. I didn't say I get paperwork done k31th, I said proper work. Although decent documentation sure saves me from answering a bunch of questions when people aren't sure of something, so I'm happy to update it every so often.
  3. A few of us in the IT department have been watching a heap of Youtube videos lately and noticing a few more Stingers around Perth, plus there's the i30N review and the Stinger review John Cadogan did where he really likes them. Then yesterday we were discussing this article, so it looks like there's a bit of a fire being lit by these newcomers. https://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/fastest-ever-golf-gti-coming-this-year-118106.html?trackLink=SMH0?ffref=watoday The German brand has revealed a series of sketches for a road-going TCR edition hatch based on the race-ready Golf GTI that competes in the popular World Touring Car Cup. Claiming the title as the fastest GTI in the line-up, it will be unveiled at Worthersee and launch later this year to topple its close rival the Hyundai i30 N. The GTI TCR turns up the wick on the standard 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine to produce 213kW at 5000-6800rpm and 370Nm from 1600-4300rpm through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and unique mechanical front locking differential. Compared to other front-wheel drive hot hatches that's more than the i30 N’s 202kW/352Nm (with temporary 378Nm overboost) and the standard GTI’s 169kW/350Nm, but down on the Honda Civic Type R’s leading 229kW/400Nm. The Golf GTI TCR will also be the fastest GTI on the road, reaching a Vmax of 264km/h and likely to hit a sub-6.0 second 0-100km/h sprint.
  4. I am the cruisiest boss in the world, I had a minion in my last job he was great, I got so much proper work done instead of getting stuck with the bulldang stuff. Do you mean besides: Make sarcastic comments. Probably have the "How to post pictures" URL in a separate browser tab, to copy paste easily into replies quickly. Have the slowest build thread in the sites history Can somehow have the discipline to go to the gym (which most people seem to hate) but CBF'ed sorting out what sounds like a pretty mean car.
  5. Guess who gets his own minion to boss around soon? Our IT department is expanding and I get an offsider to mentor send to the annoying staff
  6. I'm out for a few weekends, including the long weekend, the old lady is moving house and she has to somehow cull enough form a 4 bedroom house down to a 1 bedroom unit (which means some little black duck moving heavy furniture over there, no over there, no I mean't there) So I'm trying to show her how to put things up on Failbook so I don't get a f*ck tonne of messages from people wanting to buy stuff I really don't care about and have to relay stuff between mum and buyers. Then if the offer I put in last night is accepted, I'll be moving from a 1 bedroom unit to a 3 bedroom home of my own in about 2 months
  7. Talking about clunks, Friday I started the car put into into D and it lurched on me, so now I have to find out WTF is going on there. If I sit for a few minutes until the temp rises, no problems.
  8. Who is doing the work Marco? I had the bushes all replaced March 2017 through Malaga Suspensions, but Rob said they usually do the job cheaper. I can't fault the service I got through MS and it didn't feel like the car was sliding around on corners etc. anymore afterwards.
  9. Hell no, Dad was a dual HIA award winning carpenter for over 30 years, working for Webb and Brown-Neaves among other companies and even he said he wouldn't build with 90% of them these days, they take too many shortcuts and they don't pay the workers anywhere near enough, he calls most of them cowboys and crooks. He finished the last 15 years working for a niche builder because they did quality work, didn't muck customers around and paid what the job was really worth. Plus everyone I know that has built (I work for a home loans company and we've had a good 10+ staff build in the last 12 months, these are all what I would consider highly intelligent people too) have all said with the red tape and mucking around from builders, the local councils and the stress it all caused, they are happy they built but they would never do so again. The places I have shortlisted are all solid, no problems and are basically move in and I don't really have to do anything except change the locks and down the track if I really want to, paint the walls. I have two friends that are electricians, so I'm going to have a few battery backed up emergency lights installed similar to these (https://pixeltechnologies.com.au/wp-admin/images/emLIGHT.pdf) some Ethernet cabling run into rooms and if I get the one without solar, then a decent solar system for power and then just start paying the loan down (I've got $5k savings on top of the deposit, fees and charges, including 12 months rates for the council, approx. 12 months water rates, $1,600 as a rough estimate for 12 months home and contents insurance and an extra $1,000 for moving costs including connection fees for water, gas and electricity.) Then there's the up to $2K you get back from the REBA cheque, the yearly bonus we get around the end of July and conservatively somewhere around the $3K mark back from taxes this year. So that should get me anywhere up to another $6K if all the stars align properly. I've tried to do my sums as much as possible, because as the biggest single purchase of my life, I don't want to be caught out on a hidden cost that could make life difficult for me. I'm doing the CCTV stuff myself and upgrading the watering system to one I can control via an app on the phone, two of my friends set both systems up at their houses and the block of units they are the president and treasure of the owners group for, so I won't have problems there. The cameras will be set to dump an image every 9 seconds to an AWS Server one of the friends setup for his home CCTV, so I can check the photos on my phone at any time. I have a few different PoE Cisco switches from work that we decommissioned earlier this year, so it will cost SFA for me to do most of the stuff I'm looking at doing. All the properties have FTTP NBN being in the Mandurah region (I always do a lookup). Plus we have corporate RP Data accounts at work so I've already gone through the reports for each one.
  10. Hell no. I have a place at the top of my list I intend to make an offer on already, I had dad look at it as he basically knows just about everything to do with building laws in W.A. and he said if he had the money he would buy the place himself. I've taken him along to a few places that on the surface look great but he's picked apart certain things that after a closer inspection would have meant big $'s to fix.
  11. Looks like I've got pre-approval for the home loan. Just waiting on the confirmation letter and I can start getting serious with offers on places I like.
  12. I didn't see it posted whether this is manual or a ZF (our web security appliance blocks showing images from certain sites, so I can't even see the ones for the oil leak) but if you have a ZF auto, have you installed an aftermarket transmission heat exchanger? As there's an issue that might occur which they call the dreaded milkshake, here's some topics you might like to read on it.
  13. I do love the fact that the G6E doesn't seem to attract unwanted attention from anyone, even with the XR8 bonnet.
  14. I prefer contact via the forum, I can then just go directly to the thread, rather than have to trawl through emails or SMS messages. In answer to Marco's question, I'm up for a cruise.
  15. The tank is full and I'm going crazy waiting for 4PM, so I can get out of work & finish packing for the trip down to Albany tomorrow morning.
  16. 7 more working days, then off to Albany for a week
  17. You seem to be forgetting the "Australia tax" mate. Even when the AUD was over $1USD we weren't even close to parity prices with the rest of the world on most things. Sure Bali was cheap but who really cares when the stuff most people really want like cheaper cars & (for those with low IQ's) iPhones really didn't move a lot in price.
  18. I honestly can't justify the cost of these new "hot hatches", brand new my G6ET was the $59K mark and I feel it's way better value for money, especially considering how relatively cheaply you can get extra power out of it. http://www.news.com.au/technology/innovation/motoring/car-advice/tested-ford-focus-rs-le-honda-civic-type-r-and-vw-golf-r-grid-edition/news-story/a5e34a86e0b321a1dc73fe6811e1f2f3
  19. Saw this one just before Christmas and it didn't look too bad.
  20. I keep joking to the real estate agents that I won't have a problem with furniture or plants. Every time I go to either mum or dad's, they point out something else "I can have". So far I have a new bed for the spare bedroom, jarrah dining table and chairs, two different coffee tables, heaps of appliances, soooo many towels and sheets, all sorts of kitchen containers, dinner sets, two metal cabinets for the shed, a lawn mower, whipper snipper, electric chainsaw, blower vac, dad's tools from when he was a carpenter (there's some seriously expensive kit in his trailer, some of the saw's with accessories are the best part of a grand), all sorts of plants I couldn't even begin to pronounce, let alone know what it is (succulents and ferns are about the only two types of plant I know ) plus dad's boat and trailer. Moving day is going to be a week long event in my case.
  21. I liked it, I wasn't too impressed when I found out no-one did any time for all those deaths though https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/dec/03/manslaughter-charges-dropped-bp-employees-deepwater-horizon-oil-spill
  22. Been watching The Strain for the last two weeks and it's not too bad. I'm trying to decide what to watch next as I reckon I've got about 5 years worth of shows to watch sitting on the NAS as it is.
  23. Well if this La Nina affect occurs as they say, it's going to go from bloody hot to wet as all hell by the end of summer.
  24. I bought myself the LG G6 about 6 months ago and absolutely love it. The hardest part was finding USB-C charge cables for it, everyone wanted $40 for them but then never had stock because they are so new.
  25. Still relatively dead on the streets etc. here in Wait Awhile. Plus half of work appears to still be on leave until next week, so I'm sitting here going through the training catalogue on PluralSight and I've already bookmarked 10 courses. Doing just one of these courses through a regular Microsoft trainer is easy $2,500 - $5,000 and I can do as much training as I want for $50 a month, that's how much of a rort IT training is.
