Just though I would give my 2c... I have V103 advans - much much quieter than the SP9000's, grip - better straight line grip. The SP9000 are actually a fairly good gripping tyre when new IMHO - just very noisey, and seem to go off more than some others I have including so far the advans. Wear on the SP9000 is not too bad either, done 14,000 on the advans - rears are nearly fubar, but then I have been to the drags a couple of times with these on the car, but as would be expected I would say life will be lower than the SP9000 (and I would expect that to a lesser degree for the pilot sports). Just remember - any comparison new versus old will favour the new tyre significantly - particularly with noise - all tyres will get much noisier with wear, as there is less flex within the blocks of tread. If you want quieter, go with a tire with an asymmetrical tread pattern which the V103 advan, and the PP2 and PS2 all have, but the SP9000 and Eagle GSDS3's do not. These tend towards a better range of tread block sizes, which helps make the noise produced less noticable. I looked long and hard and the PS's, but in the end though I would try a significantly cheaper tire (V103advan's $405/corner last ones I bought - $620 for PS... ) that the tyre places thought would provide 98% of the performance... Hope this helps... Cheers, Ben.
  2. They should just about give us the accomodation given how much we spent at the bar... Are they going to open the bar early again - or did we (I) scare them off last time? ho hum - nothing to see....
  3. Agreed Gary - definitely a way up thing only - straight back down the Hume on return. now all we need is Deano with the whatchamacallit to lead again... And Craig with the bootfull of gogo juice from the local servo, And Rob for entertainment on the way And Luke to act as rear guard...

  5. For those coming up from Melbourne, would anyone be interested in driving up via bairnsdale, omeo, and hotham... might be a little longer, but MUCH better drive.... would be good if we can get a convoy going again.... cheers, Ben.

For Edit, all the tuners need to wait for SCT - my understanding was that that they were due to come out to add this capability a little while ago, but this hasn't eventuated. I understand Tony from Yarra Valley Autos has been playing around with a box and some better comnponants, but not sure where that has gotten to at this stage... Cheers, Ben.
  9. Hi, I would not run the car minus the unichip - as others have said - just pay the $100. A cheap investment in protecting your car. I had a Unichip along with the rest of an APS phase 2 kit on my car, and then replaced the Unichip with Edit. One of the best things I ever did! Whilst the Unichip provides live tuning capacity, this doesn't mean much except it saves the tuner time between runs - the car needs this rest in any case so I see no compelling reason to retain the unichip. my understanding is piggy backs cannot compete with the capacity or sophistication of the factory ECU. Cheers, Ben.
  10. check the CV joints as well - there have been a couple of comments on here previously, and one in this thread in relation to play in these - whether you want to keep throwing money at them is another thing all together. The rubber donut in the tail shaft also can fail - check this. Good luck! Ben.

Awesome Stuff Master G! Looks Smicko that is for sure - I am loving all the briaded lines you and Dave are putting on your car - makes me feel cheap though cause I wasn't planning on doing any of that. will you be sticking with a single fuel pump, or will you run a twin set-up? I presume you have a surge tank... Cheers, Ben.
  12. average over 100,000kms just under half modded, 13.4l/100 best on cruise 8.9l/100 (instantanious is obviously better when cruising on flat @ 100km/h) worst at sandown raceway 39l/100 typically around town (just out of peak hour commute in Melbourne) I get about 420 - 450km from 60L I do get into it a bit, but not excessively... Seems high to me... cheers, Ben.

I met Jim from tunehouse at the Nizpro flash tuning workshop - have a chat with him - good bloke with lots of experience and the support of Nizpro...

Hey Ken! good to hear from you! So... is cg calling... I am NOT an adict......... where is the wizard? Cheers, Ben.
  15. You are welcome! phildub is correct - as you increase the power output of the car stress levels on many componants increase, not just engine internals. Using this power will accelerate wear and increase likelihood of premature failure of various bits. How you choose to drive the car will play a large part in what real impact this has... I have now done over 100,000kms in my T, and have had no engine problems what so ever. I have been to sandown raceway twice in the last couple of months, and gave the car an absolute flogging - no problems. I am running up to 16psi of boost on a completely stock engine (except valve springs), and to date no issues. Car has been modded for over 40,000 kms. With Nizpro tuning the car I have complete confidence in its capacity to hold up, although with an engine rebuild just about to happen, we are leaning on mine a little more than perhaps I would were that not the case. Many members of this forum are running 10 - 15psi on stock internal, and have not experienced any engine issues, although this remains a possibility, and people have suffered bent rods in a stock car. However you are going to find other componants such as clutches in a manual, and g/box in the auto will give more problems, you may need to replace some other bits like fuel pump and waste gate actuator. the additional torque is likely to result in replacing drive shaft rubber donuts, and potentially cv's and diff bushes etc... Yor car will cost more to run long term if you mod - particularly heavily. Having said that - In my opinion, the Nizpro Cobra Stage II kit is the best overall kit available for these cars. The induction side of the motor simply works much more efficiently, so from an engine and turbo perspective, the increase in stress is far lower than would be expected for a similar output using some of the other upgrade paths (again as phildub has said!). It also provides a significant advange in responsiveness and fuel efficiency on the cruise (Nizpro beleive the kit is worth at least 5%)... Fitting this gear along with the Nizpro tune transformed my car and I LOVE IT! Cheers, Ben.
  16. This is old information, and with edit and other improvements, the packaging of the kits has changed... When Nizpro first released their kits for the XR6T, the stage one kit included all the hardware that is now in the stage II kit, and the car was tuned using the xede. The significantly improved efficency on the inlet side of the motor with the (now stage II) means for approximately the same boost at the turbo - higher boost is acheived at the engine - this greater efficiency is how more power is made at 'stock' boost levels (at the turbo - actual boost to the engine is improved). This is not applicable for the current stage 1 Nizpro package of injectors, valve springs and edit, as the stock induction system and intercooler remain - some gains can be made on good fuel by dialling in some more timing without changing boost, but not that significant! Hope this helps! Ben.

Hi Jason and Welcome! The T is a great car all in all, and hopefully you will love it - I know I do mine! Fuels econ is pretty good - I average only a tiny bit more than I did in my old EL Fairmont Ghia. If you want a manual, I would strongly strongly strongly advise getting one with a 6-speed. These will prove much more durable in the long run - even if you don't modify, and have better clutch options... Best of Luck! Ben.
  18. definitely possible - I would have a chat with Simon at Nizpro, he is putting a 1000Hp+ XR6T engine into an HQ? Expensive Daewoo and has been playing with using the factory ECU's for different applications. Since playing with the Ford ECU's. he has gone from being the No. 1 fan of Motec to saying he will probably never use Motec again... Good Luck with an interesting project! Ben.
  19. probably - if car is on the road...
  20. There are always risks, and it is a case of looking at and balancing these - you know how your drive - so this should be an answer... Expect some higher maintenance as other stock parts wear out more quickly, but in general - most XR6T's have proven reasonably durable at boost levels above stock... Cheers, Ben.
  21. Post up the dyno sheet.... The rpm at which you make peak power is import - the shape of the curve and drivability of the car are far more important than the number produced IMHO power is proportional to torque and speed, so the lower the rpm you make the peak figure - the larger your torque for the same peak power... Hope this helps post up the dyno result and we might be able to comment further... This result seems fairly close to right to me - you are only about 4% below your target... cheers, Ben.
  22. I'm sure anything's possible, but why would you want to do that? The APS cat is a very fine piece of gear. But if you insist on going this route let me know and I'll take the APS cat off your hands! ← Bugs, A large number of the APS cats have failed - mine included - hence needing a replacement if you want to stay legal - which is a good thing...
  23. some - but I would be more interested in the intake side of the motor if I was you - the stock exhaust (even though you have gone backwards a little) flows prestty well with a good cat... cheers, Ben.
