Xr Factory 18's For Typhoon
I can also vouch for that - I have BA brembos (4 spot fronts) with the ford 18" xr wheels on my car
-
Dyno Sheet
Yep - this is at the wheels - so you would need to divide by the diff ratio assuming the gear used was 1:1 for "engine torque at the wheels"
-
Dyno Sheet
I doubt this very much - torque is falling away at that point, and if it does so quickly enough, then power will drop. Curve looks fine to me - but expectations will depend on what other mods you have! Maintaining high torque at high rpm is very hard particularly with the stock induction plumbing, and to a lesser extent the stock exhaust (well cat anyway), as losses are much higher with the higher flow rates. Based on the amount of boost, I would hope valve springs have been done. If you post up the rest of your mods, I am sure we can provide some more constructive comment. Cheers, Ben.

Edit Installed
I doesn't sound to me like a custom tune if Chiptorque are just flashing the generic capa (sorry - herrods) map. The result and the fact that they are not pulling out boost in the top end to within the limits of the valve spring would also support this - this is very easy to do. IF this is the case, then I would recommend going somewhere where they will tune your car (ands Fist is a good option) - as it stands I would not run it if you are out of springs and the tune has not been corrected... Cheers, Ben.

Great result! Great 60' to - mind me asking what clutch you are running (I am sure this has been covered before but... ) cheers Ben.

Need New Turbo
So why didn't the VL Late model camira turbo come out with one? And in more recent history - well because the EPA cares a little more about emissions, and perhaps because the marketing department said to... The comment on the shaft diameter is a good one... Again lets think about this... The consequence of back pressure on the inducer side is it will act to try and spin the turbo in the reverse direction (as it does during normal operation when the car is on boost). The difference during a gear shift is, as has already been pointed out, is that there is low exhaust flow, so low energy on the exhaust side of the turbo trying to drive it. In very small turbo's the inertia of the rotating componant of the turbo is lower, and often boost pressure on small engines using small turbos is high. This increases the likelihood of actually stopping the turbo completely, or even spinning it in the wrong direction... Then the gear shift has been completed, and the cars is brought back on full noise. For the sake of creating a worst case scenario, lets ignore the fact that there is only a very small amount of air mass in the piping between the turbo and the engine on the induction side (just as an aside, this also helps the cobra stage II kit - as the volume of all the pumbing is much lower than the stock plumbing, hence much lower mass flow back through the turbo is required relative to stock to acheive the same reduction in pressure). This means the turbo suddenly is being spooled up, and if rotating the the wrong direction, could result in very high pressure on the exhaust side momentarily as the initial high pressure exhaust flow is commpresser further by the rotation of the turbo. The exhaust side is more likely to be fine, as it is being accelerated through the direct action of the exhaust gasses, but the force required to accelerate the inducer is transmitted by the shaft. Now from memory (and lawsy or any other engineer or knowlegable person might like to correct me here as I don't have any reference material in front of me, and it has been a long long time since I did any calculations of stresses in shafts but... ) the stress in a shaft from torsional load is proportial to the diameter to the fourth power. This means, for the same torsional load, a shaft half the size will be subject to around 16 times the stress... hence to my mind it is perfectly logical that if ever a turbo charger was to be subject to this kind of failure then it would be on turbos with smaller shaft sizes... Bottom line though the XR6T's run quite a large turbo, with relatively high inertia, beefier shafts, and relatively low boost pressures - all of which should limit the likelihood of any damage. Regardless, this would most likely exhibit itself as shaft or bearing failure, not bend vanes on the impeller. Provided the shaft and bearing have been sized correctly, and there are no cooling or lubrication issues, these should provide a long and safe operating life, as per the comment about this failure not seen in turbo's with larger shafts... True, but not having one helps retain presssure in the inlet side, so you have more 'instant boost' which will help cover while the turbo spins up, and help spin it! Just for the record, I have a stage II cobra kit, and no BOV... Cheers Ben.

Need New Turbo
This is not strictly correct... Cavitation by definition can only occur in a liquid, and refers to the phenomenon where localised pressures drops below the vapour pressure of the liquid. This creates small bubbles that collapse upon pressure recovery. The collapse of the bubbles generates very high energy, high velocity movement of the liquid in very localised sense - if this occurs near to a solid surface such as a pump casing or impeller, then these can be damaged. Cavitation is not posible in a turbo charger as it flows a gas, not a liquid. If you read Simons post via the link Marcus provided this would be explained... For those that have not read Simon's most excellent post, there are two salient points relavent to this discussion: 1) there are a number of reasons why a BOV might be installed, on the Falcon Simon's guess was that it was installed to make the car quieter, and AVOID the flutter NOISE. 2) BOV's were invented for a reason - Simon has indicated this primarily relates to emissions. Some turbo cars use an air flow meter to gauge the amount of fuel required - flow back through this meter is measured twice resulting in too much fuel and poor emissions, stop the flow going back through the air flow meter and the air flow measurement is correct meaning better emissions... Also think about this logically, which of the following do you think is more likely to happen - The pressure on the induction side of the motor is so great it a) bends the super high strength fins on the compressor wheel of turbo, or b) you blow off a hose clamp? Cheers, Ben.

Adv Of New Throttle Body And Panel Filter
Stock throttle body is fine - my understanding it is that changing it will not add any power, and will make it much harder to get your tune right, as the tuner will need to completely re-map the throttle response... Cheers, Ben.

Flash Tune Installed
As others have mentioned, custom tune by a tuner skilled with a tuning using the flasher is the way to go... I would suggest speaking with Jim from Tunehouse or Yavuz from Unigroup. Cheers, Ben!

yep - me poor old APS cat itself - well and truely... took Simon and I about 3 hours to get the thing back into a 'functional' state... New cats will go one with the new dump pump that I will need with the new turbo and manifold going on the car... ... Quick - where is that beer, must not start thinking about how much it sounds like that is all going to cost... *screams* not coming out....

Great stuff Jack!!!!! Damn it - I TOLD Simon the number must be 297 - that man simply doesn't listen to idiotic instuction (which basically rules me out)... 304rwkw - an AWESOME result Sorry about the delay in getting your car on the dyno... Man with a F$%ked cat and all that... Hope Simon was not to frazzled from me pumping him so I could make an interview! How is the clutch? cheers, Ben. PS urslow - nice!

I have been pondering this exact quandary in relation to my ZX-9. The danger of course is protecting such an advantagous mod from theft on a motorbike. I just dreamed up the folowing: 1) dare devil Elvis - just strap him between the front headlights - the restrictive range in movement should be more than made up by the high frequency excitement created by the wind - this should have a harmonising effect with a high reving bike engine a bit like the effect of a polarizer has on your fuel line! 2) Elvis in chains, suspend your elvis from the support frame of the upper fairing just in front of the speedo - careful positioning and placement of several elastic restaining chains (made of linked rubber bands) would allow for a 'special' excuse when ever you get pulled over for speeding!!! 3) Elvis on da back: ditch the pillion set, and strap in your own custom 'Elvis enclosure'. Just imagine the looks! go the bike elvis! An excellent question Chooka! I suspect the fluffy dice will provide more of a swing then sling response, where as the elvis just give the all mighty shake rattle and roll! does that help? cheers, Ben.

come on boys - lets be sensible here... You all know a dancing elvis offers the best boogey for ya buck - DAMN but that sucker gets a groove going on!

Using Flash Tuner With V8 Tune On Turbo?
If the flasher has been used, it might have to go back to Capa to be reset - if it has not been vin locked then your tuner will be able to input the correct files for your car - but either way there SHOULDN'T be problems using the unit itself (not sure if CAPA charge to reset - perhaps give them a call to confirm details and any costs). Cheers, Ben.
