Letting small sh*t go like lifters or various other things that "should be right" is common place. Would you even be doing anything about it if there wasn't a noise? The old case of yeah nah she'll be right...until it isn't.

That said the new big banger engine going in the ute has a full set of Atomic lifters at the horrendous price of nearly a kidney !
Tom Tucker Legacy Donating Member 711 Member For: 7y 3m 11d Posted 08/10/21 11:24 PM Posted 08/10/21 11:24 PM Yeah those Atomic ones look awesome. @JETURBO what's the plan for the ute?

Tom Tucker Legacy Donating Member 711 Member For: 7y 3m 11d Posted 21/10/21 12:56 AM Posted 21/10/21 12:56 AM So, lifters and phasers replaced. Noise is still there! Apparently it is only at 2400-2600 rpm, and the noise point can be shifted with the Haltech. The guys are thinking it may be an issue with the Dyno-Mite cams
Typhoon Member 564 Member For: 22y 18d Gender: Male Posted 21/10/21 07:09 AM Posted 21/10/21 07:09 AM Is it like an almost buzzing sound but definitely metallic? Also what do you mean the noise can be lifted with the Haltech? I am fairly sure I run the same cams. Are you guys absolutely certain its not timing chain related?
Tom Tucker Legacy Donating Member 711 Member For: 7y 3m 11d Posted 21/10/21 08:36 AM Posted 21/10/21 08:36 AM Apparently mucking around with cam timing settings is able to move the rpm of the sound. The brand new hd chain guide was changed out again as well because apparently it had a mark on it. And it has a new hd sprocket. Pretty much everything is brand new. I haven't actually heard it, I'm just letting the tuner work through it
Typhoon Member 564 Member For: 22y 18d Gender: Male Posted 21/10/21 09:39 AM Posted 21/10/21 09:39 AM Interesting; Im trying to understand how the cams them selves could contribute to noise within the valve train, but can’t get my head around it. I wonder if it’s registering any false nock because of it. Good luck with it bud! 1
