I am picking up some of what he's putting down though.

Completely off-topic but it's the same argument as our level of national debt. The justification for that is that 'we are still so much better off than other countries'...so fckn what. Think of how much better things could be and should be.

But given the way things have panned-out with idiotic free-trade agreements etc. I don't think it's unrealistic to expect to pay more for a locally built product and I'll still do it on principle for as long as I feasibly can - certainly doesn't mean I'm over the moon about it.

We are getting raped at both ends. Cheap imports are killing the local industry by making things cost more to produce due to diminished economies of scale but at the other end of the market it's nothing but price gouging.

The gumbyment were making all the mobs like microsoft, apple, etc. front up and explain why they are dearer here than anywhere else. One of em basically said "because you will pay it" supply vs demand, if people stop buying then we will think about lowering the prices.

Expensive Daewoo and fords are expensive because of the cost of manufacturing locally.Imported cars are expensive because of the taxes on them.We pay more taxes cause guys like the one above me loves to waste govt money.The govt does nothing but spend more money = higher taxes.

tariffss on imported cars is only 5% compared to 50 something percent from the 1980's (and most other countries that have the ability to build a car from ground up including designing, engineering, testing and manufacturing) with our dollar so high that's why imports are heaps cheaper!

The problem with that argument is that when people stop buying it they just have a cry about piracy and keep the prices the same.
