Guys,

Are most of these quotes done online or over the phone?

Reason I ask is that I contacted AAMI about 3 weeks ago regarding insurance and was told that they wouldn't insure anyone under 30 (I'm 28) with the XR6T.

I have just done an online quote with them (they have the BA in their database now) and came up with a figure of $996 and to top it off, I did it on rating 2 to be safe.

I live only 15km's from Melb city.

I have a feeling the vast range of answers I'm getting is because insurers are a little unsure how to handle the XR6T at the moment. I'm ordering next week with delivery probably around May so for the guys who have them already, do me a favour. Look after them!!

When i rang AAMI yesterday they didnt have it on there database only the XR6 'not the turbo' the guy put me on hold then came back with the qoute and said nobody under 30 would be 'allowed' to drive it.

All mine are over the phone wouldnt trust a qoute from a computer just yet till they sort there shit out with em.

Mine is the figure I paid. I went through Ford Insure because it was that much cheaper than the next mob. Can't remember the nearest quote but it was a hell of a lot more expensive.

My quote from AAMI was over the phone. Mine was for $632 in Brisbane. But only drivers over 30 allowed to drive the vehicle (which suits me just fine)..

And my quote lists the car as quote "2002 FORD FALCON XR6T BA F/INJ SEDAN 6 CYL MAN TUR". They seem to have the best policy with things like 1st year replacement, rating one etc + only a $350 excess. Others wanted $400 excess and then another $450 sports car excess.

I can't complain as WRX insurance was going to cost $1250 a year. Lets hope this car doesn't get into that price range..

37yo 60% NCB in Canberra

NRMA $898.90

FordInsure $899

I might go to AAMI and see what they quote but I have heard mixed stories about them when you try and make a claim so I am a little hesitant.

l think AAMI are very restrictive when it comes to choice of repairer, If you are in one of the capitals you dont get much choice on where you get your car fixed. If you are in the country where they dont have their own repairers then they are more flexible and you have more chance of getting a choice.

I was wondering what insurance premiums everyone is paying for their XR6 T out there, I'm expecting delivery of mine in March as are few members from what I've read.

Can you guys or gals possibly let me know with who your insured with and for how much, your age would help, if you dont mind.

I got a quote from Suncorp Metway for $1650 on rating 2, but when I went to insure the car they told me they'd changed their system and would no longer insure me.

So I got stuck with Just Car Insurance and on a rating 3 for $1970.

I'm from brisbane and 20 years old.

Spoke to suncorp metway again the other day, after drama's with Just Car, they decided they would insure me now but for $2200.

I've sort of dredged this one back from the depths.

The reason being I just went to the AAMI site to get a current quote for a Turbo XR6, and guess what. After filling in all the details, it was refused and sent to another company on the grounds of modifications. What, leather, CD, sunroof and towbar?

In the first week of December I was able to get a quote on the same vehicle. Now??

Phone quote with RACQ, $1508.

That's rating 4, 21 yrs old.

Online quote NRMA $1600.

And people have been telling me Townsville is bad for insurance? Well it's half the price of my home town which is far from being a hot spot for car thieves.

Difference being State. QLD vs NSW.

State of Origin of the insurance world.

And the Maroons win!!

I just entered my details on AAMI website and got a price of $719 with $450 excess. I put the value at $51,000 (18s, P/sound, towbar , dealer delivery, stamp duty etc) and AAMI say Amount Covered $44,885!? That is f*cked. If I write my car off or it's stolen I have to pay an extra $6687.30 to replace it. I don't think so Tim.

Hi guys,

I have just checked the NRMA online quote estimate and found that they recently increase the premium from $2200 to $2700. I am 23 male living in NSW with 60%NC bonus. I guess now the insurance company are getting to know this car and it's a potential as time goes pass. I just hope that the XR6T does not end up like the WRX with it's insurance prices.

That sux.. Im dreading when I have to renew my insurance.. I was hoping it was going to come down.

Yeah, that's really what l lwas afraid of.

We only paid $465 for insurance this year, l can see that increasing 50-100% come renewal time.

But what can you do?

Shannon's wont cover the Turbo.

Well they will but it'll be 4000 a year!!!

(When I called last year).

yeah well $4000 is effectively saying you won't insure it . That surprises me

Just got off the phone with NRMA, my previous quote of $898.90 (2/12/02) is no longer valid, the new price (higher of course) is $984. Not happy, but there's nothing I can do.

Interesting topic.

I can't beleive the difference in premiums from one company to another.

I struck a similar problem. I had my AUXR6 insured with AAMI as well as the wife's car and home and contents insurance. Have used them for 6 years and on rating one for life, never claimed, but when quoting on my XR6T they wouldn't touch it because I was 29. They told me it was OK though because my wife is 30 and she is covered to drive the car.

The choice was easy really - find another company or let my wife be the only driver of MY brand new XR6T.

Sorry AAMI but all my business is now elsewhere.

I got insurance through CGU/VACC for $735 and replacement if written off or stolen within the first 12 months.

I rang Shannons as well. I once had a motorcycle insured with them. They didn't want to insure the Turbo as it was a daily driver, private registration.

It may be the usage pattern rather than the car.
