  1. I agree. She looks like she might be the illegitimate daughter of Burt Newton, massive moon face.
  2. It will stay cast iron. It costs Expensive Daewoo around $1000 extra to make an alloy block compared to an iron block due to the fact that had to source them from overseas due to Ion going bust a few years ago, and their alumium casting plant in Melbourne not being finished. Expensive Daewoo were going to source their blocks from them but it didn't end up happening. $1000 is a massive cost to add to a car. Ford are very close to selling their casting plant and the buyers will expect Ford to continue to buy blocks, cranks, exhaust manifolds and rods from them as part of the sale, so no alloy block. The weight difference won't be huge anyway, maybe 15-20 kg at the most.
  3. Wonder if he'll be buried in a suit or a dress.
  4. I can just picture the return of the 351GT badges, with the 351 referring to kilowatts. Hopefully it will be as underquoted as the F6 is.
  5. Its due in next years Mustang, 5 litres, all alloy, VVT, 7000 rpm rev limit, will be around 300kw for Mustang and XR8. FPV will most likely make a supercharged version of it for GT. Its codenamed Coyote in the US. There are some photos of it in a prototype Mustang engine bay getting around. There will be a direct injection version of it in a couple of years with an extra 10% power. There's even a twin turbo ethanol injection version codenamed Bobcat that will make in excess of 370 kw and 1000nm of torque, with excellent fuel economy and low emmisions. It uses normal port injection for the petrol, but with a direct injection injector in the combustion chamber to inject ethanol into the chamber to take away heat so it can run high compression and not suffer from pinging. Just a number of things Ford are trialling at the moment to reduce emmisions and fuel consumption.
  6. At least it won't be a rebuild, they will most likely put in a new long motor.
  7. Holdens new small car will be FWD, and it won't be called Torana, they have already made that clear. Fords new V8 due next year will be all alloy.
  8. That would be me. The only difference between the FG F6 and FG 270 engine is the pistons, which are lower comp on the F6, and are supposed to be a bit stronger. that's it. Tolerances are all the same.
  9. The MPS's problem is that the engine dominates the whole car, they just haven't tamed it very well. At least with the RS Ford worked very hard to get it under control with the trick diff, revo knuckle and suspension mods, and it seems like they have done a pretty good job of it, unlike the MPS which apparently doesn't drive that nicely, and the RS makes more power and torque. The new MPS should be interesting, the Mazda engineers didn't bother upping the power, but have tried to tame the front end instead.
  10. There's an anti syphon thing placed in the filler tube, so good luck anyone trying to get a tube into the tank to steal petrol.
  11. Can't see the point really. There are next to no servos who sell it, it uses approx 30% more which makes the cost advantage non existant, and the environmental benefits are massively over exagerated as the amount of CO2 released growing the crops to make the E85 basically destroys the advantage you get by emmitting lower emmisions out the tailpipe. The only way E85 will provide an environmental benefit is if the ethanol comes from plant waste or rubbish, but I'm not sure if that's the case at the moment. And its also an unknown as to wether it may cause long term damage to your fuel system. Some people have used it for a few months and then say its totally safe, but what about in a year, or 2, or in 5 years time. Then what. Manufacturers make modifications to make their cars E85 compatible, what does that tell you? Expensive Daewoo have talked about making the Late model camira E85 compatible, which will require fuel system mods. Hint hint. Then there is the issue of it absorbing water if its not regularily used. More cons than pros in my book. There's no doubt it will make more power but there are other ways to do that, without the inconvienience of having next to nowhere to fill up.
  12. Only difference was stronger conrods and better valve springs.
  13. Yep, but then they lost their balls and started making nothing but fridges. There is absolutely no chance the RS will come in for less than 50k. 55k has been the number talked about, and considering it was made as a rival to the Evo and Sti, not the WRX, then that makes sense. It takes performance way past the MPS in terms of handling, braking, Recaros etc. Its a lot more hardcore than that. Its not meant as an entry level hot hatch, that's what the XR5 is for.
  14. I remember the Bill Cosby story about the Volvo wagon Carol Shelby built for him. Think it was him anyway. Looked stock but had a blown Windsor under the hood with something like 600+hp.
  15. It was a Toyota though, they have no idea about how to properly tune a chassis. They make cars for people who can't drive.
  16. They are different gearboxes so maybe not. The BF has a T56, the FG a TR6060.
  17. Its not the successor to the XR5, the XR5 (Focus ST over there), sells in addition to the RS. The XR5 is like the WRX, and the RS is like the STI version. The reason it won't come here yet is because of the price. It would be north of 55k once it gets here, and it would need to be from the FPV stable, and since they wouldn't touch it then its hard for them to badge it as an FPV. that's why they want to wait till they make it here so they can basically take the RS and badge it as their own. They might only add wheels and bigger brakes like FPV do for the Falcons at the FPV plant but at least then they can claim ownership of it and badge it as their own. They don't want to just take it and change the badges, they want some input into its build. The good thing about making it here is that they can get whatever bits TeamRS use and fit them online at broadmeadows. It would be cheaper than if they were to import it too, exchange rates, import duties etc. I know someone who has seen a few of the design sketches for the 2011 Focus and he reckons it looks really aggressive and should look awesome once it hits the road.
  18. Next model will have boost but it won't be a HO. http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf...A257573007DD068 GT engine might see a few psi with the new 5 litre. Standard 5 litre for XR8 will make 300 kw if its the same version going into next years Mustang.
  19. They do drive them in the US, they have a fleet of international vehicles over there that they drive and evaluate on a regular basis. CEO Allan Mullaly even raved about how good the G6E Turbo is, he loved it. But the not made here syndrome will keep it out of the US. And Corporate Average Fuel Economy targets are killing off large vehicles in the US. At least the yanks can recognise the VE is a piece of sh*t, Pontiac G8 sales are less than half what Expensive Daewoo planned to sell over there, so maybe the yanks aren't as dumb as we thought. It went on sale well before the GFC too so that not the sole reason they aren't selling, they just don't want them. Apparently GM have nearly 300 days worth of unsold G8 stock they just can't sell.
  20. The engines are BF spec, and they couldn't upgrade to the FG engines due to emisions laws. No new vehicle introduced after July 31 2008 can go on sale unless it has a Euro 4 spec engine, unless they can be granted an exemption to carry over the existing engine, as long as it is untouched. Ford have been granted the exemption and can continue with the old engine until July 31 2010. They must then switch to a Euro 4 spec engine. The FG is not Euro 4 compatible, but because the FG was released before the cutoff date it was allowed to go on sale in Euro 3 spec. Ford have had no choice but to continue with the same engines. There are no stockpiles of old engines either, they are still built to schedule every day. Both Falcon and Territory will gain near identical Euro 4 spec engines 2nd quarter next year. F6X was a failure and had to be dropped, they couldn't even sell 200 of them when the original sales plan was to sell 600.
  21. Someone needs to get hold of Al Gore and beat the crap out of him. He's going to make a lot of money out of the whole con. A number of scientests have gone through the Inconvienient Truth and picked holes in just about every point he was trying to make. Half of the stuff was just blatant lies. As numerous scientists have said we are heading towards another ice age, global warming is just a ridiculous theory based on incorrect information. 3 out of the 4 ways to measure global temperatures have shown the earths average temp has actually dropped over the past decade, and that global average temps have been higher at numerous times over the earths life. Mother nature will do whatever she wants, it goes in cycles. Nothing we can do to change it.
  22. It will most likely be engines for airport ground equipment, tugs and generators. They have tried to get supply contracts for this for a while now.
  23. Its probably copped an absolute flogging by journos too.
  24. There is an anti syphoning spring or something in the filler pipe so a hose can't be inserted into the tank.
  25. For all the talk from the Expensive Daewoo bogans about how good the WD40 is, it was really a total failure. HSV planned to sell a max of 427 of them, and struggled to even sell 200 before they stop production once the 200th is finished. It was only 0.2 seconds quicker to 100 than the GTS as well.
