The Sniper interface is similar to SCT, it holds up to 6 tunes. No, it does not do ZF tuning.

G'day Mick, it's Jason, not Barry. I have no vested interest in BPT, I'm a customer of theirs. Having SCT since 2005 when Tony Rullo would sell it to anyone who'd front up with the money I'm aware of what you're talking about. But unless you can compare SCT and HPT to Sniper you'll not appreciate just how far ahead Sniper is (or how far behind the other two products are). I agree with you it's great news HP Tuners is developing rapidly, it gives both the professional workshops like yours and the budding DIY tuner the ability to provide a more advanced tuning solution to the end user.

Maybe, although this thread is about DIY tuning which is what I do. I've SCT Advantage 3, HP Tuners and Delta Force Sniper. Having access to all three I use Sniper to tune my current FGii G6E Turbo. Simply, Sniper offers calibration adjustment for the PCM that the other two don't offer. Case in point is the transient boost tables for the I6T and Coyote V8. The Coyote V8 calibration has 7 transient boost tables, 1 for each gear (1-6 and reverse). The I6T only has the one transient boost table, plus other boost and wastegate tables that allow for accurate closed loop boost control. Neither of the other two software programs have this adjustability. Then there's all the other tables, functions and scalers available in Sniper that allow programming to a level similar to that of OEM PCM programming. Easy to use it is not, however you work out what does what and it becomes simple. Not only can I adjust the stoich for E85, I can also change the specific gravity value for the type of fuel being tuned for. No doubt HP Tuners are keen to offer greater support for the Australian market, who knows, they might take on SCT head on. The fact HPT can adjust the ZF is a great feature, it's just that at the moment it cannot be used to program my vehicle with the level of boost control I can get with Sniper.
-
Gear dependant boost control is available with Sniper, but only for the Coyote V8. Obviously, this feature only works with the factory supercharger/solenoid controller. Should be available in template updates soon.
-
Really? That's interesting considering neither SCT or HPT have the transient overboost table in the software for the FG I6T or the SCV8. It's no secret boost control has been an issue with the FG, no doubt some have found a band-aid fix, where as I can control boost correctly with Sniper I cannot say the same about HPT, and SCT is missing key tables as well.
-
Wouldn't it be cool if either SCT or HPT offered the ability to do closed loop boost control for the FG Falcon's? That'd be great I think, I'd be able to use my HPT device for something other than just mucking around with the ZF stuff. I'm looking forward to use a nGauge with my Sniper software very soon

Drop your budget to $40k and spend the extra $10k and get yourself into a Turbo Ghia. Plenty around for the mid to high $20's. You should look at buying interstate like I did. Got myself a '08 SY TTG for $26,500 with 56k on the odo, full service history. The drive back to Perth is a good experience too. I believe I saved around $8-10k by buying interstate. Perth prices are just too high for my liking, given I've been offered $32k for it by a dealer as an outright buy. Plenty of shops in Perth to help you off-load your cash to make it go fast. XFT, BPT, Monsta Torque are just a few places that come to mind. Simon has done a TTG which hauls arse, doubt it would have cost anywhere near $40k to modify it.

I've my XCal 2 for sale on the other forum, unbeknown to me I am told the XC2 no longer supports ZF equipped BF/FG Falcons...wtf??? All the more reason to switch to Sniper or HP Tuners. Not everyone wants the ZF reprogramming option, especially those with XC2 boxes. There was never any talk of XC2 being unusable when the discussion of ZF tuning was being had. I'm certain there is legal protection from a consumer perspective under relevant legislation, it would be a matter of investigating, then seeking compensation.

When did you go? My wife took her new FG F6 to the Motorplex Wednesday just gone at ran 12.90, 12.99 and 12.91 @ 112-113 mph. Stock as a rock automatic with 1400kms on the clock. No stalling up, just planted her foot when the lights went green hence the 2.35-2.40 60ft times. For a factory car they're bloody quick.
-
Very nice Leigh. How long you had it for?
-
Yes it does if you are after a record. When 0.01 of a second is the difference between 1st and 2nd it matters. WAW's and MM's are used by most to test their setup's. Private track days and race days are where it's at when you're after a record. With a prepped track and a the start line brought closer I'd have run 11.5x and my 60ft time would have come down 0.1-0.15 of a second from 1.946 seconds, resulting in more than 0.1-0.15 gain at the end of the track. Drag racing is won or lost in the 1st 60ft time all things being equal. As it was I ran 11.72 @ 121.45mph on a lazy 1.946 60ft time after which I was politely told to get my ANDRA licence, 4 point harness and a tailshaft loop. Tocchi, great result for a dead stock car. Imagine what it would do with a full eleventymillion dollar exhaust system and tune!
-
Agreed. It's the tune. It's the wastegate dyno duty cycle value that has been farked with to get boost up, rather than doing it the proper method using the desired boost and wastegate duty cycle tables. Your boost is probably running in open loop mode as well, meaning there's no error correction for changes in charge temps etc. This problem is SOOOO 2005 ish

Hmmm, must be the dealer your taking it to. I took my XR5 to Centre Ford for it's 3000km complimentary service and was given a FG F6 loan car for the day. I've never ever had a problem dealing with them. They certainly are pocket rockets when tuned - I did mine a while ago and it's great.
-
Sounds like you need a tune. I/We are loving our XR5 since I tuned it :D

Who cares
-
Yeah, how good was that?! And he did it with 370-380rwkw
-
Probably because you've only encountered twin screw KB setup's - the new Eaton is far better!
-
A good cruise, good to put faces to names. Dean that F6 of your's is quick. Paints lines nicely. Reminds me of my old F6.

I'll have to catch up with you and chew the fat at Rob's place one day. Busy Saturday after lunch?

Why the push for the XC3 boxes when that too is old technology. SCT in the US now have Touch Screen Xtreme and/or Livewire products available and should be advertising them. Shades of XC1 all over again.
-
I do have Sniper. I've not encountered any problem using Sniper on a range of vehicles I've tuned. It's more indepth, more technical and has more paramaters available for adjustment than SCT and HP Tuner combined. To flash the box from your pc is around 4 times faster than SCT; to flash a PCM is around 4-8 times faster than SCT (depending on BA or BF Model). The flash box holds 5 tunes and can easily be shared between 5 cars without the need to flash any of the other vehicles back to standard like you would with SCT. Sniper has many more features than SCT, however it's less popular due to SCT's market dominance. I do however use both SCT and Sniper to tune vehicles.
-
Sounds like you have an ecu issue.
-
Any tuner who still has Advantage V2.9 will still be able to tune your XCal1 box. Most vehicles up until the BFII, Boss 302 cars are supported. BA, BAII, BFI shouldn't be a problem. At the moment the bottom line is SCT have made a stand on Xcal1 and will not reverse their decision. 90 days until Xcal1 lock-out occurs for Advantage 3.xx Let me reiterate your tuner can still tune your Xcal1 box with Advantage V2.9.

Don't hold your breath. I just received an email from Herrod Motorsport stating they are now the official SCT distributor in Australia. The X1 and X2 have been discontinued effective immediately. You must pay whatever the price is for the X3 box, but wait, it has more features than the previous boxes thus you should appreciate what has been done hahaha. Thus, dare I suggest you send your concerns to Herrod Motorsport.
-
I think a certain SCT distributor is annoyed they are not moving enough of their $850 trade price X3 units imo and have whinged to SCT about cheap X1 and X2 boxes on the market.
