Opened up the Diff to look at a suspected failed pinion bearing to find this. Cracked in 3 spots the whole way round and a large amount of wear on some of the gears. Surprised I even made it to the workshop without it going bang.

Harrop truetrac has been ordered along with new seals and bearings.

Rear end has to come out :(

They use some top shelf $100 a tube sealant, invoice says $11worth, plus $81 worth of diff oil (SAF-XA). Labour would be considerable though, I had 15 total hour for the whole lot but I think rear out and in would be like 3-4 hours? Someone else might know more accurately.

The diff takes 1.7L. Even buying it retail in 1L bottles is $30/litre. http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/Castrol-SAF-XA-Limited-Slip-Rear-Axle-Oil-80W-140-1-Litre.aspx?pid=66663#Recommendations

I'm curious... how did they manage to use up $81 of diff oil?

Not sure on the oil Phil unless they did a couple of dumps to clean it out like you would an engine? Maybe faster than disassembly to clean it.

Drives way better now. Looking forward to work today as I've only driven it 20 minutes so far.
