The seats (if you buy decent one) are supposed to be well protected even from side impact. I would definitely have preferred to put it in the middle but I sought advice from a certified installer and they said it's still relatively safe in the side as long as it's rear facing. No matter how it was fit in the middle it would sway when driving. I swallowed my pride and got a fitter to reinstall and still had the same problem. The problem being that it would not sit flat on the hump in the middle seat. My seat is the Britax Safe and Sound Compact. I'm glad it worked for you guys, as mentioned, it is the safer option. Was considering trying another seat but installer assured me I had one if the best on the market and the side was fine. Only 1 seat in my car, and it's in the middle. although forward facing he is almost 3. No problems.I never had a rear facing in this car it was in my previous car. But the installers folded a towel then rolled it up real tight. Once the seat was installed, and it was as right as they could get it, they then jammed it down between the baby seat and where it presses against the cars seats upright (where your back would be if you sat in it) this made the baby seat extremely stable and stopped any moving about.
