So I hear that after a short period of time, doffs start to move around on powered up sedans. Is it true and what's the cure?

Lift is good but I'm not a fan of greater duration

The stock fg cam and head has been into the 8s now

Dunno why you would want to play around with it

I'm a huge fan of more boost for more power rather than changing the characteristics of the engine

Have you thought about the overall effect on effective duration caused by the duo phasing on the FG cams?

Was it cms who had some cams a while ago with big power gains?

in short lift will increase power without the change of duration the power increase will be somewhat the same power curve as previous. Duration is what changes the ramp of the power. Depending on the duration of the cam will depend on what rpm the curve will change.

In a turbo car you want over lap and bigger duration/lift as it helps push the exhaust gas out the motor faster therefore increasing power output

I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong. Increasing the overlap in a turbocharged car is detrimental to making power.

You are correct when you say that opening the inlet valve earlier, assists in removing the exhaust gas from the cylinder. But in a turbo charged engine the cool air entering the cylinder earlier . reduces the exhaust gas temperature. This in turn reduces the efficiency of the exhaust gas on the turbine wheel and housing..  This is referred to  as "Turbo Chill".

This is not the article that I sourced this information from, but it explains the effect....   CLICK HERE

Forgot the link. Silly me...

Big boost would be fine if e85 was readily available. Currently I have to stay with 98ron. So big boost is too risky. In time, I'm sure e85 will be everywhere and I'll have the $$$ for a forged bottom end.

As for going into the 8s. This is my daily driver. I have been in some 9 second cars. Both gtrs and big v8s. They all had one big problem. I would never drive them daily.

Lucky for us our cars aren't gtrs or huge v8s

If you do the mods properly these cars are incredibly streetable

Many 10 second dailys floating around. The stock cam is one of the reasons for this. It flows very well and is well mannered and efficient at cruise

Big boost is fine on 98 as well

Just add water injection

There is a huge difference between in drivability of a 10sec car and a 9sec car, let alone 8. I am sure that with practice, I will run 10s.

As as for boost levels, this is where every person will be different. I get the general idea that going over 25psi is starting to push the internals.

Cams will ill be the very last item to go in. So I will be able to post a direct comparison between pre and post cam shafts. If time and money permit, I will post some pre and post time slips also. I just can't see how they would make the car worse. They are also one of the cheapest items on the list.
