Surge Tank + Fuel Pump, When Do You Need Them And Why?

I read this thread with interest as some good points are raised.

I currently run a surge with an 044 pump. The pump becomes increasingly noisier

once ambient temp increases above 30 degrees even when the car is given no stick.

It has the sound deadening upgrade fitted but still sounds like a nest of angry bees

once the under bonnet temps rise. On the dyno there are no apparent issues with fuel delivery

despite back to back to back runs once warm within 5rwkw

Clearly to me at least there is a direct relationship between fuel temp and pump noise.

Maybe the pump is struggling, that said a quieter in tank is worth investigating given I am

running a nancy 350 rwkw

It is a shame as there is a PID in livelink for rail temp but no sensor :(

You can take it either way

Negligible losses to consider accordingly

Or

To expensive to add the sensor

Some how id lean towards the first situation but I have been wrong before and happy to say so when it happens

Moral of my ramblings

The KPM intank unit better do a bloody good job of keeping the fuel cool over a surge tank or orherwise it will be evident that its doing SFA over a surge and why pay the money !!!!!

Pump speed control when at idle and cruise will reduce fuel temps as well, something else that I don't believe is commonly done.

many cars are now using pump speed controllers but it adds to the cost when buying the controller and a rpm module

I own a BF phoon with surge +044, local tuner says around $ 2500 to migrate to a KPM intank.system

~10% of vehicle value

Apparently not sure about compatibility of BF tank with pump, may need FG tank ?

WTF . won't touch it at that price, Too hard and too expensive.

Rednose ( george ) is using a speed controller with his A1000 and has done the test with it on and off so were getting good data

As I said mate this path has been done many times catch up ;)

Iam keen on the speed controller. Havnt done anything to my car for months

Anyone got links and suggestions on what's needed and setup. I gather a retune is needed

Like arronm, I am interested in a pump speed controller also. Is there a limit to how many pumps you can control, or stage? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Luke (Ralph Wiggum) should be able to help with that - he recently set his up with a speed controller.
