We will see how it goes as it is. Its fine with the 0.5 cover, no surge, hits the limiter a bit better now I think and it seems like a better compressor to drive with in my setup having no BOV. Not as harsh when you let go of the throttle at small throttle angles

even the locating nut sitting in a different position can affect the balance

Not sure I would want something spinning up to 120,000+ rpm without a balance.

But it is balanced. The compressor wheel is balanced and the turbine wheel is balanced. Many turbos are assembled this way from the factory. Its just not VSR balanced.

If its not VSR balanced then its not balanced in my book. Each to their own though

Hey turbotrana I know your not a begginer and I hope it goes well,But I wouldn't dream of doing what You did,just by simply having the nut on in a differant position can throw off the balance and that's amplified at 115,000rpm,balancing is the only way to go,I would hate hear that something disintegrated due to a simple balance

You can get aftermarket ballbearing assemblies now to reco,

Re Balance: shaft run out is another thing that needs to be checked to do a good turbo build. Its not just about a VSR balance.

No, its depends on the degree of out of balance. What it could do is initiate fatigue cracking.
