Imo it's more likely that a piston will suffer damage, but as always there are many variables at play. Back to the first paragraph, using a piston with a skirt coating is well worth the extra money imo. It'll greatly aid in longevity which is a priority to most people. There's plenty of cats and strings here, so as always that's just my opinion on the subject.
