Hey all just wondering what the general consensus is on brands of GPS.

It seems that all the brands must be really close in competition because everyone is happy with they one they brought no matter what brand.

I voted navman cos I have one, and have used others in the past, they seem pretty idiot proof and are well priced, touch screen is pretty standard now between different brands, so they all do the same thing, it depends which one you like the look of I guess!

I voted Garmin, because it's the one I use, and I am extremely happy with it.

It does everything I want, plus more... and is extremely easy to use.

It has a large touch screen, with no need for other buttons... the screen takes up the whole unit, which makes it easy to read. And by simply plugging it in to my computer, I can load teh locations of speed cameras, red light cameras, school zones... although I have since deleted school zones... never realised how many schools there were between home and work, and the warning isn't time dependent. I can also use it for photo slide shows or as an mp3 player.

I'm sure many of the features are available in all the other brands. My girlfriends dad owns an autobarn store, and he highly recommended Garmin over the other brands... hopefully not because they have a higher trading margin... haha.

What do you guys reckon of those cheaper ones gettin round for about $300... Would these be any good? They seem to have most of the features the more expensive ones do, but why so cheap? Is it because of the brand? Good buy or save a few more $$$ and get a well known brand? Im rarely goin to use it by the way, planning a trip at the end of the year and dont want to get lost

I sell them all day every day and the new Navman S30 is the best bang for your buck. at a shade under $400 you cant go wrong. has all the red light and speed cams in it as well as the handy petrol station finder etc etc

I have a Garmin Streetpilot C320 that have been (ab)used for the past 3+ years.

Never missed a beat, has redlight/fixed speed Scameras and is entirely touch screen.

If I was to get another the main requirement would be touch screen, as it is easy to use while moving, buttons can be fiddly.

Happy with my tom tom one, so simple even my girlfriend can use it.

Thanks for the replies guys, I actually bought a Navman s30 earlier today and well for $395.00 you can't get much better value, I don't use bluetooth or need a camera or mp3 player in it so for value for quality for price the Navman s30 is the go..

I was looking seriously at the navman s50 as well which has a slightly wider screen.. but meh it tells me directions anyway.. I hardly need to look at the actual streets.
