Hi All,

After the "Conrod Incident", I opted for a Nizpro Cobra Stage III which provided me with upgrade engine internals. At the same time I switched from a TSI/RDP Pro interceptor to Nizedit (same as Capa edit, etc). Simon did what he does so well and here's the result for the initial tuning run. Tomorrow he'll press-on a little further to see where we end up. BTW this is achieved with the standard turbocharger running 18 psi (mid range) and 15 psi (top RPM).

A nice result.....

Cheers

Robin.

Very nice,Very nice indeed so how many $$$ are we talking here robin?

Cheers JET.

Hi All,

I promised to provide some backing of the power / boost achieved with Edit vs a piggyback (in my case a TSI/RDP interceptor). Below I have attached some dyno runs which highlight the achievable difference between the two systems.

During the tuning of my XR6T many dyno runs were done while the car was fitted with a TSI and again with a CAPA edit. Refer to dyno charts:

Edit 7 was a development run done quite recently after Edit was fitted in place of the TSI. Cobra Test 10 Final was done earlier in the year and used a TSI interceptor. Both were performed with identical fuel/intake/turbocharger systems. These dyno charts were chosen for comparison as the boost profiles are able to be readily compared. 4 charts are provided. A power comparison, an Edit boost profile, a TSI boost profile, and an Edit vs TSI boost overlay of the two.

Things to note:

1. The boost comes on quicker with the Edit vs a TSI. The improved control of the torque limiting functions of the Edit means that more boost can be demanded without the OEM ECU trying to limit the boost ramp rate to limit engine torque. This results in improved low end power (a consistent 10 rwkW or so) up to 3000 rpm or so.

2. The edit has greater boost than the TSI up to about 4500 rpm, so it seems reasonable that it produces more power than the piggyback solution up to that RPM. This has been reported before, with a noticeable improvement in mid-range punch on an editted car over a piggybacked car.

3. Questions have arisen over outright power achieved at the high end of the RPM range for an Edit vs a Piggyback. You'll see that beyond 4500RPM the Edit boost profile drops below the TSI boost profile. So above 4500RPM the Edit is running approx 1 psi less boost than the TSI. Irrespective of this the Edit produced nearly 50 rwkW more power at 4500RPM than the TSI at the same boost. Then continues to produce more power on less boost all the way up to 5600 RPM. After this point cam control falls away resulting in a tailing of power, which effects both the Edit and TSI power levels.

So, in conclusion, what this shows is that the Edit solution has merit over a piggyback, not just because it generates more power with more boost but it does so more consistently (in the lower RPM range), and more efficiently in the high RPM range.

Let the non-believers refute.....

Cheers

Robin.

Excellent, well done Robin.

As far as the Edit goes I have heard that the factory computer only opens the butterly 75% until 3000rpm even under full throttle and that the Edit can change this to 100%. Would one then assume that's why the boost comes on earlier compared to the piggybacks that can't change these settings.

Any input would be appreciated.

Brett.

p.s. Robin, I saw the first Edit in Townsville on an XR8 Sedan with cat back exhaust and while 214rwkw is not the biggest it gained 19% Torque. Very impressive indeed.

I think it's time for the blown ute to get Editted!

nice result for that boost, but its lacking a little down low???

just on the 250kw mark at 100km's is where most 300-330 kw cars are.

haha shows how much attention i pay on these forums lately!

but i thought this part was new?

It is, there just old threads moved from 300+.

  • Still have a turbo, it's just on a diesel.

The bar has been raised a bit in the last couple of years.

But it is good to see the 300kw club is still there, some thing for us sane people to aim for.

You need 400rwkw to keep the tyre companys in check. :w00t2:

It is nice to see Brian at the top of the list there as he is the one with all of the runs ha...... :buttrock:
