Agreed Pay it back as fast as you can The way I do it: Forget the minimum payment, work out all your expenses, set up a loan amortisation schedule on a spreadsheet with a realistic goal of how many years you want to pay it off it in that ties in with the max you can comfortably afford to pay per week/month. Then keep track of it, feels good to check out the sheet with the date and see you're on track or in front. We had 30k left to go on our first house and it would've been so awesome to knock that over, would've been an awesome party. Just happened to be that my old man was selling his place, would give me a good deal and a great 5/4 place we won't be growing out of, opportunity the same wouldn't come up again. I made sure I can redraw for zero cost in case of funds needed eg reno's... I do have a 100% offset account but money that's just sitting there is to easy for me to spend so I do it this way instead. Plus seeing the loan figure getting a weekly kick in the balls is psychologically pleasing
