  1. Yeah mate I hear ya but the lash but even now its still on the loose side, for us the diff really is an unknown entity... we have no idea what it sounded like before so as soon as I get my truetrac it'll be dropped out and sent to the guys at the gearbox & diff shop to be given a proper checkup and setup properly again. Once that happens it'll be a much better representation of what solid diff mounts really sound like, even still the shop have already offered me to go over and take them for a drive so they can have a listen and should quell most of the unknowns we have with the diff. Gotta say too, the guys there were really awesome! They were more than happy to answer my 10,000 probably unreasonable questions I had, then without spending a cent walked me through their shop and gave me a look at a bunch of tough stuff they had in progress including a custom strange/wilwood 9" setup for an 8 second elcipse. Not afraid to admit I got a semi - hopefully one day some serious hardware like that will end up in the taxi! The diff was always going to be loud from solid mounting it, its fairly common with IRS cobra's and corvettes in the states but I dont know of any other solid mounted IRS falcons so whatever noise it makes I've gotta cop it on the chin, we really dont have any other references. The one thing I am concerned about though is how loud it whines. If that's how it is then so be it - ive already gotten used to it so its cool but when we first got it running I nursed the car around town for the first 20km to make sure it was fine and it was mostly silent. Once I gave it a 2nd-3rd gear beating onto the highway it was LOUD and has been since, especially once it gets a bit of heat into it and when im talking loud im talking straight cut diff gears loud. As I said its cool so long as its not munching up gears as it does so! Speaking of solid mounting, we're probably going to solid mount the engine and use a custom setup with nolathane bushes for the gearbox. We can do it all in house and should have a low cost with maximum result. Aside from vibration it will add a bunch of pluses which wouldnt be achieved even if we go down the Technico 1000hp mounts route. Its pretty common in the RB community and solid engine mounts from Maatouks only cost $80 lol. The inline 6's dont vibrate anything like the 4cyls, even still this build was never going to be a high performance with factory-like driveability conversion. Initially we were just goint to solid mount the gearbox as well but this would make it a stressed member and will inevitably lead to a housing failure from chassis twist (which is something which we'd rather avoid). We'll do this and the fuel system then dyno the car and head out to the track once or twice then get ready to sell the whole setup minus gearbox as a conversion/kit with a decent time and dyno sheet to support it. Hopefully by the new year we'll have all of our parts and will do the FG swap. Im really looking foward to this because it'll turn the car from a fairly run of the mill xt-xr6t swap to something fairly tough and unique falcon. As far as I know the current IRS manual record is 11.13 so with a good set of rear wheels hopefully we can have get close to it as it was already making 582rwhp on 19psi and we have the supporting hardware to support that and then some. Im not one for talk though, nothing talks better than a result until then its just pressure waves ejaculating from my mouth!
  2. Its alfa o.k.
  3. Bit of an update. Car has been great, no real issues bar the blow off valve leaking and a few small things here or there. Thought I'd post pics of the solid mounted diff as I said I would. Heres it pre welding with the biscuits in place, making sure it would actually fit with everything measuring up as it should. Front ones were centered and rear was slightly offset to correct the pinion angle. Old man getting a sun tan. We're not fabricators but really happy how this turned out. While we had the rear end out of the car and disassembled we did the bushes on the rear arms, completing the whole suspension front to rear. For a big heavy family car with little (read none) development suspension wise its really amazing how well it handles. Currently just has the bushes, bilsteins, king springs, whiteline front sway bar. Was always expecting the NVH to be extreme as ive read but on most roads if anything it feels smoother than before. Harsh bumps its definitely firm but theres SFA road noise coming through the car and if its something people stress over I'd doubt they'd have an aftermarket exhaust on the car. Post-welding and gave the subframe a lick of paint. Wasnt expecting it to be so glossy though lol. The diff had a lot of lash in it, I ran into the previous owner of the car after we bought it and was recently rebuilt through mal wood but for us it was an unknown entity. Got some measurements taking at the gearbox shop at slacks creek, and adjusted the lash by dialling in half a "notch". Still has a bit of lash but is much better. Seems like the diff has to come out again though as it has a heavy whine, not unlike me when im sick. Welded, painted, and diff fitted up. Fitting it with the solid bushes in place was actually easier than before. Front side shot. Welds arent the most beautiful but they'll do what they're asked to. Started back on the exterior last week tidying up a few niggling issues. Biggest one was the yellow front headlights. Rubbed back then hit them with ultimate polish and a rotary buffer, turned out way better than I expected Also had the car up on the hoist to check over the rear end, making sure its still as it should be. Noticed an oil leak up front, turned out its broken both engine mounts already lol. They're oil filled so its just squirting the oil underneath and through the engine bay. Looking into some tough mounts now. Planning on the next part of the build which is swapping in the F6 engine. Will need a few parts before that happens, fuel system and intercooler plus will get oil pump gears and a few other parts before it goes in. The second wreck had a full process west kit on it - stage 3 intercooler/piping, air box, battery relocate, plenum and so on. Unfortunately the intercooler is a bit worse for wear! Was thinking of removing the bottom few rows, getting the core straightened and tanks modified but probably going to be more work than its worth. Heres a few pics of the cooler... The car was in bad shape! As of now im looking at other options, probably something from the states as they're 1/4 the cost of stuff we can get here. Wont be direct fit but shouldnt take much and will probably end up modding the pipes on the end of the condenser to make a bit more room in the front. Open to suggestions!
  4. This was bought into our shop this year. Had an issue with it doing "random" things. On the way over it started running bad so they sped up to let the other half following in another car that it was running bad then it started smoking heaps and pulled over... conrod was sitting on the undertray.
  5. I read up about it. The dude was a chef and top chess player, apparently he used to go to expensive restaurants eat their food then say he cant pay the for it due to poverty or claim to become ill and call for an ambo which allowed him to leave without paying. He became known in the media as the restaurant runner because he had over 50 arrests for it lol. He did this for a bit of comedic value, I read also that in a big chess comp he lost to a younger woman then protested that win saying her cleavage was a tool of distraction.
  6. Between here, boosted falcon, and ford forums im sure we could organise regular car-centric meet ups where we do stuff with the cars we own. Ive always though an autocross style thing would be a bit of fun. Beat on your car, do some drifts, do some burnouts, have a laugh and do something competitive. As above can meet up and cruise out to a test n tune or other events, go to car shows, go to powercruise/downshift circuit cruises. Theres lots of car stuff on and we dont have to do it ourselves just meet up as a group and go to a pre-existing one together.
  7. Its a disease only cured by PSI. that's the best I could do.
  8. Lift up the bottom part of the rear seat and disconnect one of the sensors there. You'll get an abs and traction control light but neither will work until its re-connected and you still get to keep your speedo. Takes 30secs.
  9. I sold my XF 6 months ago and it took a while and then some, I'd imagine it would take 3-4 times as long if you're looking to swap for an ba xr6t that you're happy with. There's heaps of xr6t's around, can you manage to sell it then buy one afterwards? Just might mean being without a main car for a week or 2.
  10. Id be keen for anything... well not really anything but something at least. Cruise and meet/test and tune cruise/Ken or Barbie Que/Coughy cruise and so on
  11. tou can just get a genuine elm327 obd2 cable for $50 or 60 off ebay and download forscan (free) to read all the module codes on ýour car. That should give you a starting pont
  12. Nah mate didnt get a chance, saw it with the bonnet up and thought hey I know that ute. By the time I got my food I came looking for you and saw you going off down beaudesert rd, ill be there again next week though. Nice tone from your exhaust btw. We got there a bit late im guessing, what time do people get there? Last week I rocked up at 9.30 lol... not like the old days where dudes were out till 1 or 2am.
  13. Saw you at munchies tonight mate. Grabbed some food and was heading over to say hi but you'd already left. Hows the car going?
  14. Long tail pipes give NA cars a real thong slap farty sound but they sound good on turbo cars, short ones give a real deep sound drony sound.
  15. Drop the rear muffler :D
  16. One of my favorite xr6 videos hehe. that's a real FG sound, have been trying to work out where the difference in sound from; Is it the asymmetrical swirl combustion chamber or port design, is the exhaust manifold, is it the difference in cam profiles, or is it all of the above working together? Whatever it is FGs have a real euro sound and sometimes reminds me of a 1j, compared to the boosted AU SOHC sound that BA & Fs have. Heres a couple of other "FG sound" vidoes: One of the "typical 1j sound" Typically long straight tail pipes give a raspy sound to turbo cars and tried to replicate with my car but it just has a real distinctive falcon sound. Was hoping it was going to sound like this which just has a straight pipe: What is cool is I have an FG F6 engine ready to replace the BA XR6T engine in my car. As an experiment in sound I was going to just swap the engine then swap the exhaust manifold. If its not that IMO its just the cams, which could be easily tested. Cammed barra engines sound similar but still not the same smooth sound.
  17. True that. Serious question though, if I can buy off the shelf or custom made units for other cars for $3,4,500 whats up with falcon ones costing $11,12,1300? Is it a case of cornered market, falcons having an unsuaually high demand for heavily engineered fuel systems, or something else?
  18. Fair enough. I guess for me new to the ford scene I was just blown away by the prices of things. Surge tanks, airboxes, interoolers, forged motors etc.. Nobody wants junk on their car especially when I comes to fuel systems but theres gotta be a middle road somewhere
  19. So basically you're paying $600 + pumps for plug and playability? 044's are so 2003 but its not hard to get a new bracket made up
  20. If weight saving is a benefit I think I'll buy a generic surge tank and eat a beef vindaloo on the thursday before friday night drags well before I pay $1300 for a falcon specific surge tank. You can buy generic 4L tanks with twin 044 brackets for under $300 today, genuine curiosity as to what makes a falcon one cost 300% more when its less than 1/2 the size.. have I missed something? Theres also $150 1.5L b-series specific tanks up on ebay at the moment too, anyone tried these?
  21. except like mine his car like mine didnt come with one from the factory. Theres no hole there, no blank switches. Im "drilling" a square hole in my dash where the stock one would be. gunna extended his loom and made it into a switch on the column as he said above
  22. its his traction control switch (double cop chip disabler)
  23. Yeah for sure man, should head out for a cruise somewhere or something. Just need to get a few things like the exhaust sorted out, im finishing up on the interior this week. Decided to skip the stereo as I dont listen to it anymore, and drop the gauges for something different. Already bummed out about the power lol. Took measurements on the tail "dump" pipes which were for some reason press bent... still cant believe that. At the most narrow point they are a whopping 2" so im hoping this is why the car is laggier than I remembered when it was my mates car, and why the power is dropping off in the top end despite having the .7 front housing. Either way that F6 engine needs to go in with a tank of e85 yesterday lol. Always have been a power whore but I was hoping I'd last longer with 300rwkw. Back in bike racing days whenever we saw the engine builder he'd ask me if theres anything that I wanted/bike needed. Answer was always more power.
