GHP, I ambpretty sure that when MT here in Perth do an engine up, they buy the same brand pistons that already come in the car, but a different model.

I think it is mahal or manely pistons that the XR6T comes with. They stick with the same brand but get the next model up. Apparently it helps ease the work or something.

What ever you choose, I will be watching with eagerness to see the end product.

I am glad you are getting it done right the first time and planning for future upgrades.

I wish I could afford to do something like this.

yes I will get all new rods and pistons ,might as well now that the engine is getting a full rebuild .it will take me a bitt longer now but the end result will be a lot better

just hope that skids will sell me those rollers ,otherwise I will just try to find a good set of na ones

sorry mate but I have no tools to measure them ,I have just spoken to a engine builder at a local car show tonight (specialises in falcon turbos ) and he will cheque it out for me . lucky I ran into him thought he left the coast and went else where . so I have a engine builder now that I can rely on that is local ,he also owns a ba turbo and is currently building a 1000 hp one for one of his customers . I have seen 3 of his last engines he build have about 800 hp , so mine is on the way to have 600 hp with ease . he will give me a full run down on what he thinks I will have to do to my setup as well just to give me some of his input . after that I will see who I will use for the build of it . it would be a hell of a lot easier to use this guy than Tony only due to the close to 3 hour drive , but if I think I am getting a better end result I will not hesitate to go to Tony .

just one more thing ,I have spoken to another FG owner who had similar problems at 10,000 klm with stuffed rollers and cams . his oil galleries were blocked and not enough oil went to the head . so I will definitely take this info to the engine builder to look at

ok , thanks for that ratter , as you can see I know nothing about engines . but after pulling this one apart they do not look as hard to work on as I thought , just to get all the tolerances correct I would not have any idea . that is why I will let the experts do there bit

you're right, they are not hard to put together etc, but there is a skill involved in getting all clearances matching and correct, so that it lives and is not excessively noisy.

Even some experienced engine builders build them and they are noisy which means the knock sensors can't be used
