December 23, 201213 yr #1 So this is going to be my third time pulling my rear cradle out..ive put the nolothane centre bush in, and two genuine side bushes with nolothane inserts.after having a little bit of fun with 350 rwkw the top half of the threaded part on the diff hat snapped..this has happened twice now. Im just wondering if anyone knows of any places (preferably in adelaide) that make stronger hats? Also, how regulat is this problem, has anyone else ran into this?
December 23, 201213 yr #2 pretty sure you can or used to be able to get them on ebay, was around 400 bucks if I remeber correctly.
December 23, 201213 yr #3 Mal wood autos make a reinforced hat. If you change the nolathane bushes to super pro all round and you won't have an issue again
December 23, 201213 yr #5 Yes, it is the rubber side bushes allowing the diff to nose up. That in turn puts stress on the hat
December 23, 201213 yr #7 If you have done two hats, then I bet you will be doing a 3rd and a 4th. That cradle needs a redesign which would involve welding up a hat and cutting off the existing bush on the cradle and doing a double bush setup with some bumpstops. When the time comes to rip off the cradle on my FG I wont be phucking around with nolathane bushes, I will be welding two bushes in there somehow.
December 23, 201213 yr #8 The standard design seems to work fine for me. It seemed to work for Spiro ( he was breaking cv's) and Brian. Pretty sure replacing the bushes first with a good quality polyurethane set will solve most of these issues. I would say there is a lot to do with driving style too
December 28, 201213 yr #10 If the car suffers from axle tramp you will continue to break diff hats. Large diameter wheels, high tyre pressures and standard shocks are generally fitted to cars which continually break these components.
