Pete, in many ways your comment about costing is not wrong...

Ford and even Toy and Hole, all come back to look for local product(s) when its cheaper to do so and not off shore... Its only normal/good business practice!

If it be Lights, or Seat covers, or even steering arms - whatever... its always been the same with the aussie car makers, hence you hear of the local suppliers going out of business when the dollar is up! then new ones pop up again when the dollar is down!

BTR/Borg Warner/Ion - now DSI is a prime example of this... Interesting to see that it was reopened again about 6 months ago - (I think???)

Its always happened, and will always happen...

In the case of the ZF - I guess we will all need to play it by ear!

Why are ZF "disappointed with Ford Aust."? Were they hoping Ford would drop the 4 speed and only use the A6?

From what I am led to believe is that ZF offered Ford Aus the 8 speed for the same price as the 6 speed and Ford went for their own ZF copy from the USA. :eyebrows::blush:

Ford have been hard on ZF in aus even to a point where they have recently stopped ZF selling the 6HP26 box to people like me who have accounts with ZF. Fords nut squeezing revolves around the fact that this box was made for Ford to suit the local Ford bell housing and as such the box’s should only be sold through ford outlets.

Ford can’t stop us from buying parts as the parts fit many box’s but whole units is a different matter. Even information is limited due to Ford placing restrictions on who is allowed to see it. (try and buy a manual or even a parts book) When the contract expires I bet ZF let the whole lot out just to stick it up Fords nose.

Personally I think its been the best transmission in any Aus car but obviously Ford think they can make a copy and cheaper????

Ford arent the brighest bunch of people but after all the praise and good word the ZF has brought them I can hardly see them sh*tting in their own nest.

I would never believe what a ford dealer or mechanic says, they like to think they are "in the know"

:stupid:

Seriously though Pattsy, you'd have to admit hearing about allot of things from other sources before it filters through the dealer communications wouldn't ya?

PS: There is actually a Xmas card list???

Definately mate, we hear things from outside ford because ford want us to sell what we have now, not what we will have in the future. That doesn't mean that we are pulling ourselves though (not always anyway) We may have heard it through another reliable source. I have a good customer of mine that works for Dana (diff supplier) and he was the one that told me about the way the FG diffs were made compared to the BA and BF ones (stronger splines apparently)

You don't know about the christmas card list because you aren't on it tard

The ZF 6HP26 trans is great but has been around since 2000 and is now quite outdated.

Why Ford Australia dont update to the newer generation ZF 6HP28 trans is beyond me?

Look at the specs for the 2009 Ford F150 in the USA ... you'll see "EVEN" its equipped with a ZF 6HP28 which helped it win pickup of the year.:blink::blink:

Whoever believes the ZF is standard in the XR range best check again.

They have never been standard, always a cost extra option.
