From that I gather you should use a beefier gpo and preferably a separate circuit, to avoid the breaker tripping with the larger appliances.  Edit: and possibly wrecking the switch or cooking the gpo.

I think I'll measure how much power is being drawn from various gpo's for some peace of mind.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

if you were to file down the earth stub/prong or replace it with a 10A plug top you could use it successfully in a shed where that GPO is not going to be run all the time ( or even for an extended period ) and almost guaranteed not to be switched off by the face switch whilst flowing the full load demand.

I have a DC welder at work with said earth mod

It runs all day long,  and has been for about 4 years now (out of a 10 amp GPO)

some days I will be welding for 8 hours straight

with smoko breaks of course

Thanks all for the details guys.

Am going to grab a proper adapter to be safe instead of doing a bodge job.

I've got a couple of US items without switching power supplies - some of which have heating elements etc - better safe than sorry.

Lol - one of the pics for the adapter mentioned above show this exact scenario ;)

Maybe cheap insurance for your boss in case something goes wrong :P

May not work well if you item pulls much more than 10 - 12A. Will just trip the breaker..

Maybe buy this and cut the earth pin down or change the plug

cheaper

Wouldn't that trip the house breaker if it goes over the 10-12A?

edit: or let the units draw 15A over the 60yo home wiring?

Typical house power ccts are 16A breaker with 2.5mm2 cable

lighting ccts are 10A breaker with 1.5mm2 cable

oven/induction ccts are 32A breakers with 4mm2 or sometimes 6mm2 cable

in the event someone or a contract requires a single 15A GPO the cct breaker will be a 20A and a 4mm2 cable

Installing a 15A plug off the oven circuit would be a possibility or would that be a no-no?

That would be a best case scenario honestly

older homes will have a single CCT for the oven and sometimes will actually have a 10A style GPO as it maybe gas powered oven but require mains supply for the fan forced and light

the CCT maybe of big supply ( 32A breaker and 6mm2 cable ) but what looks like a 10A single GPO face plate as the oven plug may oy be a 10A male plug

you could easily use this single GPO for what you require if you changed the face plate out to a 15A and then cut the plug top off the oven and installed a 15A plug top and you’re set..... just would need to check the breaker and cable size to be sure :)

Hey quick question for barra turbo territory owners or anyone really. Did they get the fg style intake manifold at all or are they all like the b series?
