I havin an external bosch and surge fitted by xtreme fairly soon, the way I look at it is your allready doing the pump its an extra 200 to fit a surge tank so worth it in the long run I presume.

044 & surge setup is around $900 + fitting whereas a Walbro intank is around $400 fitted so the $200 difference might be a bit off. If you're not chasing 350rwkw+ or doing regular track days I think the 044 & surge tank is a waste of money.

Just my opinion though...

So how many people with sedans here are running say 340-350kw with only say an intank replacement fuel pump (say Walbro 500-600hp one) without a surge tank, and have no problems on the streets, giving a bit of stick here or there, and the very occasional quarter mile?

just keep your tank over 1/2 full, under 1/4 you can experience fuel surge as the fuel moves up and to the rear of the tank under hard acceleration.
