Plasma or LCD?

I was looking at all of these different tvs and I decided to stay with tried and trusted....bought an LG 80cm CRT tv.....shes a big heavy b**ch but the pictures awesom and fills the space in the loungeroom nicely

If you're going to buy a plasma you cant go past the new Hitachis they're 1,000,000 pixels as compared to 400,00 pixels that Samsung etc have and last 60,000 hours compared to 20,000-30,000 hours that the other brands have. I just bought the 42'' Hitachi and can't be happier.

There is a good argument for a projector for evening/night time use or in a room that can be sufficiently darkened, for $2-3k odd you can get a very good picture albeit svga resolution in either DLP or LCD. With cheaper DLP you can get the "rainbow" effect but contrast and general picture quality is very good, with LCD you can get stuck pixels and screen door effect and lower contrast compared to DLP at this price point, colours are stunning though on LCD. What you do get is impact, you get a very good picture up to 100 odd inches with a screen that can disapear into the ceiling and the machine iteslf can retract into the roof if needed and is only the size of a shoebox, lamps are good for around 4000 hrs and are $400-$800 odd to replace. You'll need a STB and the Olympics and sports will look amazing, add a good quality dvd with pscan or and there will be excellent results and boy does xbox feeding in on a component signal look awsome, Rallisport challenge and v8 supercars will blow you away on a 100 inch screen, and Halo is simply stunning, forget Harvey Norman and Megamart, you need to go to home theatre specialists and see these things properly for yourself, A 68CM CRT is plenty for daytime viewing but if you want to get blown away, a projector is woth considering as they have dropped in price to a point where they can be good value compared to plasmas etc. One thing though, a projector is not really the thing for general all round viewing.

I am only renting where I am living at the moment, so I am not looking for anything permanent. I think I will wait a few months to see what develops, as it sounds like some interesting things are on the way. I have a 71cm CRT already, so I pretty happy with what I've got now. However, I might get a digital set top box, as the TV reception is not always so good on all channels (too close to the transmitters, so we get blown away by the signal).

Plus, I have some other uses for the money in the next 6 weeks or so.

I have a flatscreen 68cm CRT for normal viewing and a projector with pull down screen for DVDs, best of cheap both worlds, the projector was a harvey norman 16mth intrest free $2000 and yes during the day its a bit washed out, but we dont use it during the day, at night its awesome crisp clear, just like being at the movies.

Also I heard (dunno if its true so dont hold me to it, I heard from an IT person who went to a conference in Japan) CRTs are being phased out, this may explain the drop in prices recently, from what I heard the gases etc in CRT tubes are being banned so theres probably a lot of manufactures with stock wanting to off load them asap, so CRT bargains may be afoot.

CRTs may be banned from manufacture within the next 12-24mths, also heard plasma is just a stop gap, and LCD will be the future, but it does have its problems.

Anyways time will tell.

Current times I'd deffinatly say largish flat screen CRT TV for normal viewing and LCD projector for movies cant go wrong, unless you got more money than sence.
