Plasma or LCD?

Featured Replies

So home entertainment geeks, what are people's views re: plasma or LCD TVs?

Is one clearly in front of the other, or doesn't it matter?

Is it actually worthwhile getting one now, or will it be a wasted investment with new models coming out in the next few years?

Any brands better than others?

I wouldn't want to spend more than about $5K...

I would go a LCD as it has a clearer picture, plasmas are ok but once they go that's it throw it in the bin. Have a look at the FUJITSU they have a clean picture

LCD would have to be the better option they last nearly twice as long as the plasma but only problem is you cant get LCD in a size that is as big as the larger plasma tvs except if toy get a LCD rear projection

I use Panasonic Plasma's in professional CCTV jobs. BTW they last for 15,000 hours, you will chuck it out by then.

I have one for digital TV 1080 lines of resolution. They are very good. Black blacks and no noticible banding.

cheers

I got a lcd screen for my computer, and its pretty good picture, and I think I know what u mean about standing in front of it, if your looking at the screen from below (which you shouldnt) the image will change into "negative" colors, like looking at a film that came out of a camera...

I love my lcd screnn, I watch videos off the net on it and its great quality... worth the money too :)

LCD is better. Plasma runs on a gas which will deteriorate over time, this is why plasma tv's aren't warranted for great periods of time.

If you can wait crt screens still have sharper picture quality, in saying that I use a 17 inch TFT screen for my computer. The main benefit is that they save space and look sexy. The longer you can wait though the better I recently bought an 80cm sony wega tv I luv it Will buy Lcd in 5 to 10 years when they last a lot longer than they currently do. They have the technology to build screens that retune themselves and stop themselves going faulty (to a point) We will see if it ever gets released though.

For a home theater get yourself a nice DLP projector!! Nice clear 8x6 foot picture is awsome

Something like the EIKI EIP-25. With 2500 ANSI Lumens, 80% uniformity, and 1800:1 contrast ratio it is awsome for watching TV and DVDs. You cant go wrong here and you can pick one up for about 3k if you know where to shop.
