CnC SportCompact.biz Member 328 Member For: 23y 7m Location: Canberra Posted 22/04/04 11:29 PM Posted 22/04/04 11:29 PM I'm really amazed by some of the ill-informed opionions stated on this last page regarding EPA compliance and engineers certificates. There is no workshop that can sell you a kit and have your car remain 'street legal'.As soon as you modify the car the onus is on you to have the car engineered to ensure compliance - no workshop can do this for you. As APS has stated (several) times mind you, they have had their kits tested in the various states of tune for emissions compliance. This is quite an expensive test, at least $10,000 to $20,000 if memory serves me correctly. Now APS have basically saved you needing to spend the same amount of money to prove that your car still meets these emissions standards, and you are having a go at them for it? It really amazes me..

If you buy a car you get rego, it's not a question. If you get mods, you get an engineers certificate, should not be a question either!Enough with the doom and gloom, 100%.Legalities of cars is an very open-ended subject as probably over 50% of the cars on the road today are illegal. How many of these cars have been refused insurance based on the modifications of their car? Well that's something that we have very little experience in yet you keep harping on about it like a broken record. If you drive without a certificate then you can be made to remove all parts or have them certified by an engineer at cost. Can you be refused insurance? Well that's another matter and we've seen little but speculation on this so far.

Doesn't make it OK though does it"but officer his car is illegal to"I'm sure everyone's parents at some stage told them the 'if Johnny jumps off a bridge are you gonna do it to?' line."If you drive without a certificate then you can be made to remove all parts or have them certified by an engineer at cost."Isn't this point what we have been trying to say all along? YES! And if this can happen, how obsurd is it to think an insurance company might take a stance on the same issues.......not very absurd at all! I'm not saying the whole insurance thing is common, or even likely, but I wouldn't want to be the one who is made an example of when they decide to The FACT is they CAN! That is what I'm saying. If people think the odds are in their favour, let 'em gamble with all they own, but not me.

I think the chances of being struck by lightning are higher and no one is yet to say otherwise. We're all happy you have your certificate. Now can we all get over it.

NO! Dealers, modifiers whoever, can only give you the goods to get that car registered legally, if YOU do or not is up to you! I didn't realise that new car purchase worked differently in Victoria. In NSW if you buy a new car you don't drive away with it UNLESS it is registered. The dealer does that for you, and the registration and green slip cost was a part of the deal. I bought 3 new cars last year from different dealers in NSW and that process was the same in each case.Brian

The % of the general pop. who modify their cars is low, definitely under 5%. Even if you throw in unroadworthy cars its not going to be that high.I mean 800,000-1 million cars will be sold in 2004 in Oz and will be every year, hardly any of these get modified.

Our magazine advertisements have always stated that APS systems are emission legal and that an engineer’s report is required. The whole process of legal requirements has been up on our web site for months and months (http://www.aps-xr6t.com/falcon/legalities.htm). We have endeavoured to ensure that the information is neither misleading nor ambiguous. In fact, we have had this discussion many times on this forum.Regarding your question about APS PHASE II ¼ mile times, the ones that spring to mind are customer’s vehicles with 12.5 sec in a sedan and 12.6 in a ute run at Calder, though sorry, I don’t know what make of tyres they were running.PeterAPS
