  1. I've read of plenty of ZFs "Flaring" with heat exchangers. It's going to be very hard to back up any form of ZF cooling when people are continually playing with tunes etc. I've noticed my wife's stock FG XR6Ts ZF is a little funny when cold, just the first 500m, it's been like that for the last 100,000kms so I'm not worried about it. Now for the BIG QUESTION, what's the difference in dollars between air cooled and coolant cooled, fitting it yourself???
  2. Very nice [emoji7] I wouldn't be worried about missing those little bits , I don't think it'll make bugger all difference otherwise the guy coating the head would probably have said something. Looking good [emoji7]
  3. Wish this Low Pressure system would FARK ORF!!! Just emptied over 200mm of water out of my pool[emoji15] Surf is absolutely off its tits![emoji12] Backyard looks like a war zone [emoji21] Cold, windy and pissing down [emoji20] No other option than too spend the day in the garage [emoji6]
  4. When the standard heat exchanger fails and contaminates the gearbox, what does the coolant damage exactly? Clutches I would think but anything else?
  5. Yeah it's pretty wild and woolly down here atm and cold as fark! It wasn't a very pleasant day at work today either. Mother Nature reminding us who the Boss is.
  6. Only my boys been affected down here in the Illawarra. He cleaned the pool on Sunday and now it's full of branches and leaves. He's not a happy chappy atm[emoji6]
  7. It's a Coupe. Here's a link if you like reading about rust repairs[emoji6] http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11434889 I think I've got the rest of the year to look forward too repairing the shell. I'm the same when it comes to learning, I'd rather have a go and try and learn something.
  8. I think build prices etc and being completely open and honest on a build thread is one of the most important parts of the thread it's self! I know a lot of people don't like too do it because they may feel it opens themselves up to scrutiny and ridicule but people that have done what you are doing will be far more understanding. I realise prices can vary but it gives the reader ball park figures. I'm doing a build thread on AFF with my XA and intend to put the GOOD, the BAD and the UGLY on there as well as cost etc. It's a full rotisserie resto so it's a big job and I'll be tackling 99% of the work myself, what I don't know I will learn! I've also bought a log book where I write down costs, parts, tools etc as well as hours spent working on the car. The book stays in the garage and I fill it in after I finish up each time. I've said it before and I'll say it again this is one of my favourite build threads on this forum atm. Oh and don't think you're boring us with too much detail and pics..... You can never have enough details and pics in a quality build like yours Peppy! Thanks for sharing [emoji7]
  9. That looks fine also I forgot about the ceramic coating. Are you doing the piston tops as well? I'm still really enjoying this thread, love this stuff [emoji7]
  10. I remember when our kids were really young, 1 and 3 and my mother and father inlaw offered to look after them for a week so we could get away and have a break. To say we were thrilled was an understatement. So off we went too a nice place down the coast and really looking forward to the time away. We lasted 4 days! But were seriously missing the kids after just two days. I've never been attached to anything as much as my kids. In fact I don't believe you know the true meaning of love until you've had a child[emoji7][emoji7][emoji7]
  11. Well I'm not one to be loyal, especially too insurance companies but the wife has from time to time got other quotes and either Shannon's have still been cheaper or they've matched the other quotes. And yeah Shannon's must bloody love us as we've never made a claim. But I'm happy with Shannon's or as happy as I can be when it comes to an insurance company [emoji6]
  12. This would only be a guess but what I think Turbotrana is talking about is that sharp edge that separates the machined head face from the combustion chamber near the exhaust valves could be a source of detonation The edge around the inlet valves is not a problem because the cool inlet charge keeps the edge cool but the edge around the exhaust valves has very hot gases constantly flowing over it and can start to glow causing pre-ignition. Weather that's going to be a factor with your engine or not I don't know. I would try googling some pictures of high boost 4 valve aluminium heads to see if they've taken that edge off. You probably wouldn't have to go to crazy, just chamfer that edge off to about 1-2mm wide just where its closest to the exhaust valves, if nothing else it may also help exhaust flow by de-shrouding the Ex-valves. I used to do this on NA cast iron heads that ran high compression but it wasn't necessary for NA aluminium heads. Anyway it maybe worth researching [emoji2]
  13. I've been with Shannon's for about 14 years because I had my 73 XA HARDTOP insured with them and because of that I ended up being able to insure our Camrys (when we had them) household contents, house and even my Enduro bike. Now I also have the F6 and XR6T insured with them as well. The XA only costs about $150 a year cause it's in what they call laid up condition due to undergoing restoration. Shannon's were far cheaper overall than anyone else. I really rate them [emoji7]
  14. Maybe God is REAL [emoji15][emoji15][emoji15][emoji15]
  15. Yeah I liked those as well, my brother inlaw had a black AU XR8. Loved those rear Bi-Wings as well [emoji6]
  16. And check this sh!t out! Die grinder and it's brother Right angle die grinder for WAIT FOR IT..........$16.99 each[emoji15] from Aldi and they come with fittings etc Honestly how much cheaper can this sh!t get??? I've already got a "cheap" die grinder which has been going strong for years, but what the fark at these prices another won't hurt![emoji2]
  17. HILARIOUS [emoji15][emoji12][emoji1][emoji14]
  18. Replaced this piece of krapp which I think was our old TV stand from when we were poor.... For this nice new shiny cart thingy...... Even has a draw[emoji7] And what did I pay for this fine piece of quality workshop kit I hear you ask??? $99.99 from my good friends at Aldi [emoji6] It's just one more step towards garage Nivana[emoji18][emoji18][emoji18]
  19. No, but you can have my vote if you're keen to have a crack[emoji6]
  20. I had a 96 Camry and a 99 Hyundai excel (later "upgraded" to a 98 Camry) whilst the mortgage was being paid off and my XA Hardtop sat dormant in the garage. Now mortgage gone and F6 and XR6T (which we paid cash for) in drive and Hardtop progressing slowly but nicely [emoji2] It's much nicer playing with cars when you have a clear conscience and no debt [emoji6]
  21. Not much left of the intake manifold [emoji6] How many hours do you reckon you spent on it? I would love to see a detailed ZF rebuild just out of curiosity and maybe future reference. Once again thanks for the great pics and detailed write up[emoji2] This is one of my favourite threads[emoji7][emoji7][emoji7]
