  1. Take em off - Removing the dust shield helps (albeit only a tiny bit) get heat away from the brakes.

each to their own... I must admit though - on my XR6T I don't really want the psssssht sound. My celica, on the other hand, is pretty far from subtle, and the venting BOV is exactly what I want...
  3. heheh... chris - who is that ugly mug in the first car??? oh wait... *looks in mirror* Umm.... never mind........
  4. lol... well, I've only got the car for a couple of years... and if it breaks in under 100,000km or 3 years... warranty job! turbo6man - I'll try the 1800rpm-non-sidestep you mentioned. see how it goes.

easy to GET the power... hard to KEEP the power coming... reliably...
  6. What I do, (XR6 Turbo, 5sp Manual): 2000rpm, start to slip clutch to load up the turbo, with right foot still on brake as well as accelerator. When the turbo is spooling nicely at 2200-2300, you can start to feel the car fighting at the leash, then as smoothly as you can while still being quick and in-synch, pull the clutch out at the same time as easing the brake and dumping the throttle (takes some practice, I stuff it up at least 1/2 the time... lol). Keeps the revs about 2200-2500 right through until your clutch is all the way out and before you blink you're at 5500rpm and snap-shifting 2nd... This way usually gets the rear treads speaking to me a little, but not spinning out, and it doesn't bog down. I've heard people call this launch style "clutch slip" or something similar - I don't know what to call it... But it's well sufficient to get pretty consistently quick launches. Don't know if I'm near the 6 second 100, but hey - I'm not a drag racer so I don't know all the best ways. Just my $0.02...
  7. Ya... Thanks all. I reckon we nearly caused a couple of accidents on the parkway... rubbernecking 13 XR's on their way through...
  8. Sun is shining here in Canberra... what a beautiful day...
  9. The current system is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH OBDII. It is called the CAN (Car Area Network) and is a Ford proprietary protocol. Basically each computer listens on the CAN bus for anything addressed to it, and acts upon it. Ford don't want anyone to play... You can access the info using a machine that understands the CAN protocols, but you have to buy them from Ford, surprise surprise. The CAN supports up to 50kbps serial data transfer, of which at any given time approx 10kbps data (including operational parameters such as fuel, ignition, revs, turbo, etc) is on the bus. The plug is the same as OBDII (to allow the same diagnostics machine to talk to other cars than the ford CAN) but unfortunately you need the machine that understands it. If anyone knows of software that talks to these... let me know. I have an OBDII interface that works for Lexus, BMW, Volvo, Merc and Mazda... and even a Ford Probe, but no Falcons or Holdens for some reason. Weirdass.

    I like mine...
  11. I'd be happy with that... a $900 auto for free, and free tint, alarm, and protection pack... lol. Wish they'd stuffed MINE up like that - I'm getting sick of the manual clunking around like it does, with only 8000km on it... :(
  12. heh... hands up those who also have "battle scars" from their cars... lol I did something similar, but with my calf (don't know HOW, but damn did it hurt...) Then again, compared to the number of times my Celica has hurt me, my XR6T is a very pleasant girl...

I believe that was initially thought to be a Nokia ad-take... that they vehemently denied... Poor kitty... lol
  14. BarraGT - Suits me fine as long as number plates are smoothly blanked...

ROFL... Glad you specified that for us... And also glad you specified "wheel" as well... (mind you if you DID ask em all... I don't think it would be the WHEEL nuts being done with a tire iron... )
  16. apparently they have a Cat-Back system, keeps the twin pipes from the catalytic converter, straight through muffler, all stainless steel, twin tail pipes. $1200 installed I was quoted from Herrods.
  17. Sweet... this is getting bigger'n ben hur! I just sent an email to Gregorys... wait and see whether they'll help out with something (I dunno, snags for the bbq? PERFECT opportunity for Gregorys though. Perhaps they can redeem themselves for their occasional lack of customer support... lol) NOT that I'm saying that our sponsor isn't good... it's just that they're not in Canberra... *grin* I am looking forward to this in a big way! Who has a high quality digital camera they can take lots of photos with and send em to the press? yay!

how do you wire it for electric brakes? what's the difference?
  19. Well... any good looking females looking for a ride in my XR6T... let me know! *ducks for cover from the P.C. people out there...*
  20. ow. Well, at least you can say the words "warranty job"...
  21. how hard is it to get a sports wheel put on after the car is built? How much does it cost to get it done later? I have standard wheel on my XR6T, but I really like the sports wheel. Should have gotten the sports wheel when I bought the car, except the dealer didn't know it existed... :( Anyone?

    auto vs manual?
  23. I think more the merrier - but for photo shoots and the convoy, anything other than BA XRs can "go to the back of the class" if you know what I mean... So anyone who wants to come along, come along - but only the BA XRs will get "pride of place" at the head of the line! *books his XR6T in for detailing on saturday afternoon* Hey - anyone know any photographers for the press?
  24. done and done. BYO everything for the bbq?
