  1. After some thought I decided to do alittle research into the topic of driveline shunt. After abit of a search on the web I found "shock horror" that it is very common amongst even some of the prestige brands. Here are some links to articles with a brief summary from each one if the articles are too long to read. Audi RS4: Along what way, you'll encounter a relatively heavy clutch and some driveline shunt from their six-speed manual gearbox - an annoying trait shared with most other Audis. But if you were expecting a wild ride to accompany that flipping performance, you'd be in for a surprise. The RS4 is hushed and refined, and at low speeds is compliant and comfortable rather than sharp and edgy. Link to rest of article: http://www.google.com.au/search?q=cache:Sd...ine+shunt&hl=en BMW Z4: As usual, the six is a model of refinement and smoothness and BMW have indulged themselves and even allowed it a deep burble to the exhaust note at lower crank speeds, and some crackle on the over-run. It's another great application of the six, although the 5-speed 'box isn't as slick as some we've experienced lately, though it does retain a wonderful mechanical feel. There was the slightest driveline shunt at lower speeds, although this wouldn't be so evident if the driving position weren't set so far back in the chassis. http://www.carenthusiast.com/roadtests.html?article=298 Mazda RX-8: Unlike previous rotary engines, there is far less driveline shunt, although edging along at very low speeds can be jerky if you're not delicate with clutch and throttle. http://www.tiscali.co.uk/motoring/roadtest...ction5/892.html 2002 Mustang GT: The manual gearbox has a notchy, agricultural feel. Driveline “shunt” – the judder and thunk that arises when slack in the drivetrain is taken up under acceleration, or released during deceleration – is pronounced, and the pedals occupy the same basic area but operate on three different planes. http://www.autofieldguide.com/driven/0702dri04.html Maserati Coupe: It is almost like an auto in its behaviour and creamy smooth to boot. Some driveline shunt however, can upset serene progress. The engine note in town driving is muted, never intrusive, but musical. http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=47&I=8717 The point of this post is that it is not just manual Falcons that have shunt. Fact is it happens and unless there is more dampening within the driveline it will coninue to be there. So all this talk of blockading dealerships seams all the more absurd.

Welcome OneSlowAOD! Nice stang you have there too.
  4. 21% you are refering to is a Ford employee price which Ford wears quite abit of. There isn't 21% unless you add a substantial dealer charge.
  5. A member on this site used to own a MY01 WRX (bugeyed one), and he had diff clunk in that. Blockading dealerships? You've got to be kidding. Why cause an innocent party, as in other dealership employees problems when it's Ford you should be targeting?
  6. That's a great time for a street XR6T ute xrdreaming. Well done!
  7. Forgot to mention, how close does Shockwave look to Blueprint with the XR8 in the Mag?
  8. Very nice choice XtRmn8. BA Fairmonts are great value these days especially considering the equipement levels.
  9. The times Wheels quote for the LS2 is the Clubsport manual, which is damn quick.
  10. Ian I think the numbers do matter in the greater scheme of things as there is now a greater number of people with the same issues as they existed in AU, although not necessarily a higher percentage. It's just that now there are forums such as this allowing us to become more vocal about it. Also regarding shunt under trailing throttle, that is something I have not experienced unless you tap the accelerator. I have seen you around since BON too and have seen it all now! Cheers, Dean
  11. Aiden that is a good combo. I'll speak to you later in the week regarding your car too.
  12. Sorry JB but it's not rubbish. The fact is we are members of a site where the vast majority of members own an XR6T, and many in manual, we are here because we are enthusiasts and are more padantic about our cars than the average owner. So naturally we will complain if we feel the product isn't up to our standards. The problems do exist as I said in my earlier post, no denying that. But I feel that there are some people who are misleading others in making them feel that practically every manual BA has shunt, every BA has electrical faults, every BA has brake shudder. It is not the case, there are many owners happily enjoying their experience in their BA and say nothing. The BA is hardly a poorly engineered car! Yes I am also telling you that I purchased my XR6 Turbo knowing full well that it may have the shunt, I have 900km on it now and if I release the clutch or accelerator quick enough I get the shunt, otherwise nothing. That's what it was like with the XT V8 and I drove around it, trust me it's not that hard. I have never double clutched either. It's all about the timing. But this is just my opinion. JB I mean no disrespect for the people who feel this is a major issue and I value your opinion as well. Also cast your minds back to AUI XR. 5% of total Falcon sales were XR, it steadily increased through to AUIII. Now it's anything around 15-20% I think. It's a huge increase. AU had shunt as well, although there were no internet forums anything like today for people to talk about it. Now with BA there are many more XR out there coupled with forums such as this one and it is ripe for people to express opinions, concerns and whatever else they like so it seems to some that BA is a dud, which it is not. It is the most comprehensively engineered Falcon ever with performance sedans capable of running with a HOey.
  13. Agree 100% Geeseman. The many negative comments we hear on this forum do NOT represent the majority which I can assure. The problems do exist but not to the extent that some people make out. I have had an AUII Fairmont, BA XT, BA XT V8 and now an XR6T sedan. The only problem there has been was the steering rack on the AU and brake shudder in the 6cyl 02 plated XT. The V8 manual XT and now the XR6T had/have the shunt in a very minor way which I have learnt to drive around and hardly hear it now, and that's it, nothing else. The BA is a far better car than the AU in many ways although the AU XR/ T-series range held there own as well. I was very happy with the V8 XT as I am with the XR6T now, absolutely love it. And yes this is just my opinion and first hand experience, not something I have read.

I'll be at the Ford stand on Thursday night, and FPV next Wednesday day, and next Friday night (15th). It pays to work at a Ford dealer.
  16. Great decision agentorange!
  17. You might be in for a rude shock. A fellow member here (ozzyjim) has owner an MY01 WRX which he has now traded and bought a BA XR8, said that his WRX clunked between gear changes as well. He actually thought it was normal.
  18. I am beginning to wonder how much the electronic throttle is responsible for the clanking, the reason is that I changed my T/Body up to 80mm and noticed much less tendency to shunting and clanking from the bum, I thought it must be in my mind, but I have now gone back to the 75mm T/Body and straight away the shunting and clanking has got noticably worse, after 5 months with the 80 I can now make a fair comparison, weird perhaps, but true nonetheless I think JB is right. It is the gearbox that clunks. And hypnodoc you hit the nail on the head regarding the Flyby wire throttle. It is like a light switch meaning throttle is either on or off, whereas with the old throttle cable absorbed some slack there which makes it seem like the BA was the start of this issue when it really was there in AU as well. Also if your clutch wears out completely at 40000km it is not because of trying to adjust you driving style to reduce/ get rid of the clunking. I have 20000km now and it still has plenty of feel.
  19. The 6 speed will be standard on XR6T , XR8 and FPV. No 5 speeds in there.
  20. In addition, all of the MkII cars for October have been allocated and unless the dealers allocation has a car they are still able to change there is a good chance it could even be early November so be prepared for that too.
  21. Well the official public release isn't till mid-October and deliveries should also begin around then too. Also pricing is still unknown. But if they can promise you 1 month then I hope they know what they're doing! Good luck either way.

Not possible Tom. You can order the Luxury leather on its own or with the full Luxury Pack.
  23. Not in mine although it is optional.
  24. Yeah, it will be interesting to see if they change over the gearbox for you, will they give you a T5 or a T56? I think you may still get the old unit! No the box won't be changed because I won't have it for much longer anyway. To be honest the whole clunking issue has only been an issue for me because it was spoken about on these and other forums, otherwise I didn't really think much of it.
