  1. Gday The whole job cost me $4800. The federal gov't give you $2000 back and in WA the state Gov't give you a further $1000 back, Cheers T
  2. from what I was told, the numbers produced on the Ford dash when in LPG mode are wrong and the only way to work out mileage is by when you have emptied a tank...something about the ECU thinking it is pushing through petrol but it isn't so it reads it as better mileage...something like that... Anyway so far I have gotten 16L per 100km average usage where my petrol was 14.7L per 100 usage...not bad... On a standard tune I would imagine that economy would be a lot better
  3. some piccies of the setup. The Tank from outside: The tank from inside with the rear seats folded forward The fuel cap setup The Injectors A short movie of the loudness of the injectors: Computer and stuff (that I dont know what it is) Heat Shielded The display/button setup The LPG badge And a plug for the installers...(you can ask for this to not be added to your car)
  4. Well I picked up the T last night and she is now on Direct Injection (Vapour Injection) LPG using the Parnell SVI XR6T kit. Tyson from R.A.G.E Racing in Midvale walked me through what they had done and talked me through refilling the gas, switching between fuels, any error codes/beeps and what to do etc. The manual is very helpful. He showed me the dyno chart and I have the same power as petrol though the Torque drops of by a milimetre or two towards the top end but it is slightly better on the lower end. Seems to balance out really. The system is by no means maxxed out the money I pay for only seems to get me the same tune as petrol and I need to pay for more dyno time to get more power out of it...sounds fair enough. So far after 100km's driving the fuel economy is better than my petrol tune so I'm pretty impressed but it's very early days. No different in feel when driving, cruising, accelerating hard etc. The engine note sounds a little bit different but not overly noticable. The LPG Injectors are a bit louder than the petrol injectors @ idle but you can barely hear them and when under driving conditions you cant hear them at all. The car feels a little heavier due to the tank I think but it hasn't effected my driving. So far highly impressed with the system. Switching from petrol to LPG and back is completely seamless and both tunes go as tough as each other. The workmanship is high quality and R.A.G.E Racing really need to be commended on this!! Will post pics and Dyno chart when I get home. (I left the chart at the workshop by accident so getting him to post it out...) Will report back when I have done more KM's...LPG is 58c-64c around home at the moment so bring on the $1 per litre savings.... T
  5. oh and I havent got the car back yet...hopefully today!
  6. Guys, the latest John Mellors GoAuto news is out and it discusses the new Liquid LPQ technology. A really good read. You can get it here: http://www.mellor.net/mellor/mellorweb.nsf...GoAuto%20e-News The link above only links to the most current edition so if you are reading this some distant time in the future...then the back-issues can be read here (compare the date of this post to the dates on the website): http://www.mellor.net/mellor/mellorweb.nsf...n/Back%20Issues T

  8. mine is in the LPG shop right now getting the conversion done. Should be done by tomorrow or thursday. I've started a thread for it in the Fuel section if you want to follow the progress. $4800 is the average price. The system I am getting is limited to 450FWHP but if you pay another $900 for a new converter fully installed it will go to 750FWHP As a guide, I currently have approx 255rwkw which is approx 300FWKW which is again approx 400FWHP. Oh and if power is what you want, then setup your car to have big power when on petrol and economy or average power when running on LPG. I dont want much more power than I already have but I can still tune the petrol to go higher or both if I pay for the additional converter Petrol is better for your engine as it has lubricants so I will need to run my car on petrol every now and again. As someone has stated, if you can, wait for Liquid Injected LPG as it overcomes pretty much every LPG shortcoming and has big power potential. I couldn't wait. T
  9. The parts arrived this week for the conversion, the car is booked in on Monday and they said they will need it for approximately 2 days to ensure everything is OK. We will have a chance to drive the car for a week before we fly out to Mongolia, Will try to post up a review for you all before we leave, T
  10. my car might be similar to what you are refering to hulk xr6t though a better driver would knock off another 2 tenths from my time as my 60" times are not that flash (2.2-2.3 seconds) T
  11. lol what a crack up. he has some explaining to do
  12. nice work, another Breeze on the road p.s did you get your online name from that simpsons episode where bart says his name is 'Rudiger'? T
  13. so the latest Motor Mag is out? Do they test all of FPV and compare them to HSV models etc? might pick it up on the way home if so... T
  14. Make some posts and then give us the links to your stuff on eBay mate when you put it all up Some things in there that I am keen on T
  15. happy Birthday mate and unlucky about the rock yep you can get away with an edit for sure but if you are going to do an edit and the rest of the car is essentially stock then jut pickup the generic tune. Without the items listed above dont expect any big numbers but you will still notice a massive difference. The generic tune is usually a 10PSI or 8PSI (depending on which you ask for) tune which should see you jump from approx 200-205rwkw (stock) to about 240-250rwkw on the 10PSI tune (see my sig for an example). If your mate doesn't already have one, purchase a SNIPER or CAPA Flash Tuning box and this will come with the tunes on it. Costs about $630 in WA and you can walk out the door without needing anything else. I recommend the SNIPER. I personally wouldn't go much further than that until you do the springs. The stock Injectors wont be able to go much beyond that anyway...my stock injectors are about 5-10kw away from being maxed out. T
  16. There is a really good writeup on the current LPG, Diesel and Petrol problems in the latest John Mellors Go-Auto News released this morning. This includes a discussion on the viability of each type of fuel and advantages/disadvantages. Click on the following link and then click on the link on the right hand side called 'Get e-news now'. Warning: the document is about 5mb so you might be better off right clicking on the 'get e-news now' link and hitting 'save target as': http://www.mellor.net/mellor/mellorweb.nsf...GoAuto%20e-News T
  17. thanks for that hiddeous very informative, T
  18. *nods* I will actually pay for extra Dyno time at Rage Racing and they will tune the car as far as it can go on this particular LPG system which is good for 450HP.
  19. yer c wot skool tort mi?? lol I hear what you are saying so lets use my wicked sick maths skills to take this further we've established I am forking out $1800. Using todays fuel prices as a guide (granted this fluctuates a fair amount) we have in Perth: LPG = 55c per litre 98RON (which my car is tuned for) = $1.60 per litre Fuel Tank for this scenario = 60L 98RON - LPG ---> $1.60 - 0.55 = $1.05 difference per litre (bear with me here) Now lets say I fill up once a week (which I do, usually more than once) we have: 60Litres x $1.05 saving per litre = $63 saving per tank $63 saving x 52 weeks in a year = $3,276 saved per annum(stay with me) Now I can see you screaming at the computer screen saying "there isn't a 1:1 ratio of saving here". Fair enough so going on some estimates of my friends Vapour Injection Systems and the advice offered by the various LPG experts I have spoken to, they have advised that the Vapour Injection Systems are approximately 5% less fuel economical than petrol (yes, you heard it right, LPG has come a LONG way since the early days). So out of $3,276 I can only claim that 95% of that is a saving: $3,276 x 0.95 = $3112.2 saved per annum Taking into account your assumption that LPG will increase by almost 200% shortly to $1 per litre, for arguments sake: $1.60 for 98RON - $1 for LPG= 60c saved per litre 60L x 60c = $36 saved per tank $36 x 52 weeks = $1,872 saving per annum $1,872 x 0.95 = $1,778.4 saving per annum that's not even factoring in the amount that PETROL itself will go up by the time the government slaps the tax onto LPG. So I can hear you saying that you believe Vapour Injection is not that efficient (which it is) well for arguments sake lets take both of my answers and say it is only 80% as efficient as petrol: Using my result for todays petrol prices --> $3,276 x 0.8 = $2,620.8 saving today Using my result for an LPG tax in a few years --> $1,872 x 0.8 = $1,497.6 saving in the future per annum without even factoring in an increase in the price of petrol which really is ludicrous to assume that...in fact if we listen to the 'experts' on the news and do this scenario again with petrol getting to $2 per litre for ULP by the time christmas comes, that pretty much covers any loss I incur by an LPG tax being introduced and I am almost back to saving almost $3,000 per year on fuel. At a worst case scenario I am still saving $1500 a year in fuel which takes me just over 1 year to recoup the costs. Granted I will have an additional annual servicing fee of my LPG system but I still come out on top, by a lot. I intend to keep this car a long time so I will make my money back. And I dont need to worry about petrol running out, demand outstripping supply and oil becoming more and more scarce. People still cling onto the old ideals of LPG being unreliable, inefficient, etc but LPG systems have come a long way in recent years. Checkout this thread of a new LPG technology being introduced over east called LPG Liquid Injection, the potential is incredible - http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11217031 I actually didn't make this thread to justify my reasoning for going to LPG it was more to advise people that they have some options now in WA but I do appreciate the discussion, Bring on filling up my car for $30 each time. T
  20. G'day yep you got the maths right $1.8k to hand over. I can't vouch for the price of LPG rising as that is only speculation however what is more of a surety is the price of oil going up hence the price of petrol. At even $1 per litre for gas I will still be paying 60c per litre (using the current yet ever rising price of petrol) less than someone using petrol. that's still a MASSIVE saving. It is estimated that (according to current prices) it would take me about 1 - 1.5 years to make my money back from the conversion. All I see is LPG @ 55c per litre and petrol @ $1.60 per litre. This means, for the average person like me, I am in danger of losing my T because I cannot afford to run it. T
  21. Hey everyone, Well after much searching, I have finally found some companies in perth that have a LPG kit for the XR6T. Here are the details of my conversion: Company: Rage Racing - 9250 8574 - speak to 'Pyson' and he can set you up LPG Kit: Parnell VSI XR6T System (Vapour Injection) Cost: $4800 all up but I am going to request a high flow high pressure fuel line to cater for a bit more power than I currently have which will cost a little bit more. Deposit is $500 to get the whole process going. Booking Schedule: Pyson said everyone went nuts and booked in their cars when they thought the scheme was ending so at the moment the general delay is about 1 month for delivery of the system and then it takes 2-3 days for installation. It has started to slow down again already. Power and mods: Rage Racing have a dyno setup etc so they wont have any problems tuning my car to similar power. He said this particular system has a 450-480 HP limitation (can't remember if that is fly wheel HP or not...still more HP than I want/need) You dont need to go this way, but the person who set me up with Rage Racing is Bradley Guelfi from ProFIRE Engine management. The reason I mention his name is because if you email him, he will find a local LPG converter than can install the ProFIRE systems. He was also very helpful and friendly. Other companies that can do an LPG conversion for the XR6T in Perth: SprintGas - www.sprintgas.com.au Steens Automative Balcatta - 9240 1466 Jasons Autogas Myaree - 9317 3577 Malaga Autogas - 9249 6655 To be honest I'm not a technical person when it comes to cars so I really wont be able to answer any technical questions; I just wanted to post this information as it has taken me a while to track it down and I wanted to save some other turbo owners some time. if you have any overly technical questions just give one of the companies above a call. I should have the car finished in late June -> early July so when I get the work done I will post my comments here for the benefit of those considering this conversion. Hope this helps, Tristan
  22. spotted a Ford Telstar with sticker writing across the back of the cars rear windscreen that said: 'One Power Ball and I'm... An XR6 Turbo" Made me chuckle and appreciate what I've got T
  23. does anyone know of a gas fitter in Perth that will do this gas conversion on an XR6T? Would be really keen for this,
  24. +1 agreed from inside the car. I got a headache after 5 mins of being driven around in one and couldn't believe people got used to that constant buzzing From outside they dont sound too bad... T
