flood damaged xr6 turbo ok for parts?

saw on the web a fg flood damaged xr6 turbo done 32 k only ask for 10 gran, seller say engine starts goes no  problem, and all electronic work.

 

was thinking maybe buy it for back up parts, my car already done 100k, so does it sound like a good deal?

 

what would worst could happen to flood damaged written of viechle? can the engine, turbo , gear box still good for back up parts?

Dont know why ya need $10000 of spare parts.

$3500- $4000 for a replacement motor that hasn't been in flood.

Unless it has leather and you don't.

Or a manual and your gonna do a conversion.

Don't really see the benefits of stock piling spare parts.

and can you prove it really only has 32,000kms?

 

I will add as a disclaimer, you don't know the extent of the flood damage, there is a chance that all the running gear is in perfectly good condition. still wouldn't give them $10k as I've seen FG turbos regoed selling for close to that (high ks usually though).

I wouldn't risk buying a water logged vehicle in an auction. But hey, that's just me ...

I guess the worst that could happen is that the car has been run with an undetermined amount of water in the engine and transmission. 

 

Water is not a good lubricant for bottom end bearings or any moving part. 

 

The clutchpacks will get destroyed pretty quickly with water in the transmission.

 

$10k might be parts value but you're not buying confirmed serviceable parts on a pallet, it's an entire flood damaged, written off vehicle with unknown damage to running gear. 

 

There is a chance that everything is fine but you won't know until you open it up. 

 

You also need to ask yourself if you want to keep a progressively stripped car in your yard for years on the off you need parts. 

 

I agree with other people in this thread.

 

It's not worth it for parts or for the risk of unseen damage.
