What scares me is where this may end. Our wonderful country is taking everything off shore, and slowly shutting down all local manufacturing relying more and more on import. This can not be a good thing for Australians.

SO glad I bought my 2007 Ford Falcon BFII XR6 Turbo back in 2008 after joining this forum. Have met some top people through this passion and had a lot of fun and laughs along the way. Hopefully have a few more yet!

Expensive Daewoo engineers, designers and marketing executives huddled around a new Calais V - claimed to be the most technically advanced car ever produced in Australia - to listen to a Ford press conference putting the final nail in the coffin of the Falcon.

One might have thought, given decades of competition between the two rivals at Mount Panorama and elsewhere, that Holden's team would welcome news of their competitor's demise.

But that couldn't have been further from the truth.

More than that, when you think of Australian Ford, you don't think of the Focus or the Fusion. You think of big, rear-wheel-drive sedans with straight sixes and V8s, the kind you barely find anywhere else in the world anymore. You think of Ford Falcons thundering around a V8 Supercars track. You think of utes. You want them desperately to come to your country so you, too, can properly hoon them.

That's what Australian Ford was all about. And while the company may make more money selling Fiestas, ending the production of uniquely Australian cars means it has lost what makes it the company it was. How did they expect people to react?

Ford Australia may not be dead, but the Australian Ford is.

this sums up exactly how I feel about the whole situation.

the bolded section makes me angry that more was not done to get some sort of export program happening.

Yeah I noticed quite a few comments on the site lamenting how now they will never get the Falcon over there.

Would it be presumptuous to assume that Ford would be looking at importing the Taurus SHO?

From what I have been reading, this has the V6 3.5 litre (twin turbo) eco boost engine producing just over 270KW?

I also believe it’s all wheel drive…

This is the closest thing to the XR6T that I can see…

Hopefully it will get a facelift for the Australian market…

I've driven one - it was a boat. Full of tech but not as "dynamic" as the falcon.

Mind you I drove a RS focus just before it, a GT-P and then a Mustang Boss 302 afterwards, so might be relative. After that day my thoughts were the aussie cars (falcon/territory) were more dynamic (better handling, less "boaty") then all the yank cars (explorer, edge, taurus, fusion), mustang and F150 aside.
