the reason I said the 5.4lt is a boat anchor is the fact it is inherantly flawed in its design because ford australia in its wisdom decieded it needed to increase the capacity of the 4.6lt modular engine so it would appeal to bogan aussie v8 lovers that think engine capacity is the only thing to have so they handicapped a nice revvy power productive quad cam v8 that would have given Expensive Daewoo a good run but giving it the stroke of a truck just so it could talk up the capacity so now the 5.4 isn't very good down low and has an alright midrange and doesn't like to rev not really what you would want in an engine if you ask me and they are too expensive to modify you need to remove the engine to fit some extractors pretty good

Never heard of anyone removing the engine to fit extractors before.. My old flat mate had a BF XR8.. Exhaust and tune.. It was still a fast car.. I don't know what it could run the 1/4 mile in.. But it was pretty bloody snappy around town..

Enough for him to lose his license..

Twice.

When the 5.4 came out in the ba it was common practice in the very earlie days to lift the engine quite high or lower it down to get extractors on

ya totally miss the part where I said " INSTANT BUT LESS"

duhhhhhhhhhh

Again not quite true. Rolling times for the Turbo are better than the 5.4s, and the Turbos are quicker off the line. I dont see how the 5.4 has more 'instant' power than the Turbo.

when u put down your foot in any naturally aspirated car the power is instant with a turbo u have to wait for boost to spool....

From my experience I found the FG Xr8 ute a nicer drive than an Bogan special VE ute. Power was fairly similar. Although I found the shift quality better in the XR8. In stock form I would imagine a 5.4 engine will live, and still work many years after a turbo barra is dead and buried. A strong engine internally, with a nice set of heads. The point I think Fluffy is trying to make, is that the NA V8 has a nice linear response, with good power modulation, where with a turbo its either on or off.

Cheers

I have the so called anchor 5.4 with a full 3.5" twin big boy difilippo system on it and there was no lifting of the motor bolted on nicely then with the custom tune very happy with it :)
