Firstly I would'nt have let him fix anything, he's already proved his incompetence to you.

Would cut my losses, and drive outta there quick smart. Claim on your insurance, write up a stat declaration of what happened, and let them chase him for the costs.

also as others suggested, hit up dept of fair trading, I'm sure they'll open a can of whoopass on him, and uncover that he has no insurance etc.
