You have to ask, why was Lowndes on the brakes miles before the corner??

You can see he's on the picks and moving right. Is he making the move on the HRT car, or as knobhead suggests, squeezing Kelly out??

Kelly has no room whatsoever, and has to come back to the left or go off the track himself. It just has to be clarified he either put himself in that position or Lowndes pushed him over.

Either way, it's not a 3 wide corner, so Kelly should have hung back. He may have seen that if Lowndes took Todd he would have been caught in traffic, so pushed hard??

What was the consensus from the commentators??

I have obsessively watched the footage on youtube, Lowndes brake lights were on for about 5.5 secs with kelly having plenty of room to avoid collision. Kelly regardless of what was obivously not a safe and clear place to make a move, puts his foot down. the only place crash bandicoot appeared to want to go was craigs rear.

I also ask why didn't the "investigators: (uses term loosely) not take into account the blatant and undeniable go ahead for RK to do as he wished to the car since it was not needed next year.

I was at Phillip Island and sat across from the whole incident...

The crowd where I was in general was not happy with what Rick did, no matter what camp you supported. In my opinion it ruined what was going to be one of the best championship finishes of all time.

I was disappointed when Tander said he would play no part in helping Rick only to block Lowndes until he got a black flag, Skaife was even worse. Why these guys couldn't just let the two contenders battle it out I'll never know.

At the presentation there was a very large and vocal disapproval of Kelly and all he had done. You may of heard it all on TV?

I didn't expect the officals to change anything, why should they really? If this was any other race of the year we wouldn't even be discussing it now. Lowndes also made some silly mistakes throughout the year and any of those could be pointed out as "the moment" he lost the title.

I really wanted Lowndes to win as I feel Kelly didn't do enough through the year to deserve it and it is only because of the stupid points system that he had the chance to win.

In my mind the 2006 championship will always be remembered as the year when nobody won. Instead, the trophy was stolen with bullying tactics and unsportman like behavior from someone that knew they didn't have the pace to RACE and win.

It's funny you mention that. My girlfriend is a DJR fan and she said we needed "a rock" incident!

On a side note...

After the presentation was over Lowndes came out and signed autographs for the fans that stayed behind, and as always did it with a smile on his face. I'm sure he was gutted on the inside but I have to admire someone that can do that and give the fans something back that were supporting him.

I didn't see Kelly signing any autographs.

I couldn't agree more with your comment. I'm not a Lowndes fan but feel he was robbed to a degree. A blind man could have seen what was going to happen in the final race, race 2 was the 1st phase.

As it is in country areas we only get V8 supercars when footy or cricket isn't on. I'm not with Bigpond like at least 50% of the rest of Australia and they don't show it on Fox. All I can say is thank God Ambrose starts in the Busch series next year, and I'll get to see every single race. I won't be tuning back into V8 supercars, I'm sick of the Expensive Daewoo v Ford crap anyway. Add some other makes back into it and make it interesting again.......Like I can see that happening.
