Dont know how different the ratios/bellhousing etc is though... ←no T5 in the XR8 I think. Its a different box to that found in a T or n/a XR6. I think it may have some relationship with the 5 sp in the late model mustangs.

Most of the jap stuff runs a 3.5 or so first gear. You can run a T56 with the same first gear you have now, or a taller one. (as stated previously). I cannot understand how someone can have such a narrow, uninformed view on a subject, with no regard for the facts. Imagine the flaming if someone got on here and said turbos are crap, they hate them, they have too much lag, but then admitted to only having driven a turbo charade? Do your homework. Ben.

I have heard that they don't fit straight behind the six but not sure how much effort is required to make it fit

I am about to step out of my current T and am leaning towards the BF with the T56. I do a lot of towing and in particular, towing and takeoffs on hills. Would like to know the different gear ratios, particularly 1st gear comparison and whether the diff is the same in the BA T5 as the BF T56.I have tried a search in this forum but no luck.

That box has the identical gear ratios as Ford now use (I.e 2.66;1.78;1.3;1;0.8 ;0.62). Mal had that box in his turbo ute. I drove that and found that the 2.66 first gear with the 3.46 diff was not real good getting off the line, and it wouldn't be good in stop/start traffic, and that a 3.73 is a much better solution. Hence Ford chose the 3.73 for the T.When my 2nd T56 gearbox went in I changed the diff over to the 4.10. I'm considering running higher profile tyres in the rear to get back some gearing.Brian←fyi 1st gear ratio in the T5 is 2.95, so almost identical to the Ford T56, however diff used with T56 is 3.73, not 3.46 as with the BA T5.Brian

Does anybody know if there is a difference in times at the creek between the 5 and 6 speed. From my understand, what you guys say is that the gearing would be relatively unchanged. So is it correct to assume the time should be the same also? Further, is it correct to assume that 5th and 6th are overdrive gears? Not to sure when it comes to gear boxes hence why I ask the questions.
