Another Intercooler Option

Since gettting the edit, I have been painfully aware of the standard intercooler's inability to cope, particularly in summer.

The features I have been looking for, from a replacement unit were:

- Must be able to provide a significant increase in intake charge cooling efficiency

- Must have a reduction in pressure drop over the standard unit

- Must fit the standard pipework

- Is a straight swap which is relatively simple to do

- Must cost less than $1000.

The cooler I have ordered, should cover all of the criteria above.

Some of you have requested information about the intercooler I have ordered, so here it is.

- It's a bar and plate core made in Japan.

- The size is 450 x 300 x 80

When tested on a modified T, power increased from approx 270RWKW to approx 290RWKW with just the cooler swap. The car was checked by 3 back-to-back runs and intake temps were recorded from the cars diagnostics (20C ambient):

Temp standard cooler

1st run 80 deg f - (26.67C)

2nd run 95 deg f - (35C)

3rd run 123 deg f - (50.56C)

Temp new cooler

1st run 70 deg f - (21.11C)

2nd run 78 deg f - (25.56C)

3rd run 84 deg f - (28.89C)

As mentioned, runs done consecutively with the temp taken from the scanner.

- The unit comes with the brackets required for mounting to the front of the T.

- Only need to move the horn and some hoses.

- The supplier can fit for $100 (Melbourne)

Price? I paid $950 for mine, but group discounts are as follows:

1-5 units = $950

5-10 units = $900

10-15 units = $850

15+ = $825

I've been pestering the supplier for photographs and hence the delay in posting this. The attached picture is not the final product. It's a WIP shot before the unit went for polishing, but at least it will give you an idea what it looks like.

Yes, almost exactly the same, but the core on the intercooler isn't a chinese tube and fine like this one!

Yes it is. As I said earlier, I haven't got a photo ooutf the finished product to post as yet.

What made me go with this one was the tube and fin core. Very nice, and thick.

Is the photo that M6 XR6T showed the one from the (True Diy Upgrade Intercooler $995) Thread? if so why is fordboy1981 saying it is chinese sh*t?

Please tell me the differences as I am about to purchase one of these and don't want to get ripped off.

Also can you give me installation time for the average person? and is there a walk through picture diagram thingy with it.
