16/07/04 11:47 AM16/07/04 11:47 AM #1 If you can find your local alternative cinema I recommend Touching The Void.It was recommended to me and its 5 stars, amazing sort of recreation/documentary about 2 Englishmen who scale some snow-covered Andes mountain...and something goes wrong. Its a corker, so well done you'll think youre there. I mean I saw the trailer for it ages ago and thought it was nothing special - I was wrong!* * *Well I just saw Fahrenheit 9/11...hmm, it was entertaining and fairly amazing in parts. 4 stars from me. Ahhh, Americans, effectively pumping their SUV gastanks with the blood of their own soldiers...oh and the odd Iraqi. Onya Dubya!
17/07/04 03:00 AM17/07/04 03:00 AM #2 I would absolutely REFUSE to put any money towards that Communist propogandist Michael Moore's movies or books. He is a typical Left Wing activist - a little bit of fact with a lot of ideological propoganda, sensationalism and sarcasm thrown in.I wonder if Moore will reveal that he was sued by some of his employees for breach of working conditions and non payment of wages...and they won a Federal Court action against himThe Champion of the Under dog Pffft
17/07/04 03:09 AM17/07/04 03:09 AM #3 Ive seen fahrenheit 9/11 - very critical and political movie - but moore does just tell it in his own special way....I didnt know that when the 1st plane hit the towers that he actually kept his primary school appointment and listened to pre schoolers read to him... Is that touching the void the one where the guy breaks his leg or something and has to make it back to base camp and the guy who's ok thinks the other guys kaput???
17/07/04 03:10 AM17/07/04 03:10 AM #4 Author BEWARE - this post contains a couple of Fahrenheit 9/11 movie 'spoilers'.You may have a point plonky, either way there were some funny moments in the movie. For example, America is now so security/terrorism obsessed that there was a case of an old man (60, maybe 70) at a gym who in conversation commented aloud that he thought Bush was as much a terrorist as Bin Laden...and then the FBI rocked up to this apartment door the next day?!Then there was a cardigan-wearing, cookie-baking peace group of oldish people who were infiltrated by the Californian state police to see if they were a security threat.

Why?l havent seen it and am wary of Moore's extremist views although there is an element of truth in some of what he says, but what makes you say that? Curious......

Gilto, umm, you say the movie is disgusting, I guess you disagree with the content. A reason behind your disgust wouldnt go astray.Well, here's my rationale, it has nothing to do with Fahrenheit 9/11:1. A lot of muslims and arabs hate the USA and Israel...2. They see the most Christian president ever invade Iraq on dubious grounds.3. I can just imagine muslims everywhere with their blood boiling as a result. This Canberra-Raider-supporting, meat pie-loving, XR6T-driving, non-religious 6th generation Anglo-Saxon Aussie who generally votes Liberal and who likes The Simpsons and Judas Priest reckons invading Iraq...may have been a bit unwise. Amen fellas.Bali II - They're Even Angrier could be on the cards one day y'no chaps.
20/07/04 01:48 PM20/07/04 01:48 PM #8 Hmmm, whenever it comes to show out here in the sticks I'll be in an watch it.Until then I won't cast judgement...In my Pinko Eyes, Mike Moore is a Journalist and like ANY Journalist is not to be trusted. He reports material in a way and manner different to regular media, that's all. Plonky, quick question, do you have the same disdain for Piers Ackerman or a right wing writer of the similar vein? (Miranda Devine?) Those typica; Right Wing reactionaries that seem to have a little bit of fact with a lot of ideological propoganda, sensationalism and sarcasm thrown in....Any comment by someone saying that photogenic people don't deserve an opinion ... No Comment on that SPECIFIC optinion little boy.At least the others who don't like the Movie or the Man give REASONS presented in a MATURE way.I also watched 'The World According to Bush' on SBS tonight, it was indeed very interesting, its a multipart documentary, I urge you all to catch a bit of it next week if you can.Cheers,LumpyPS:I may be a little biased in my opinion, as my father was 'investigated' and 'Infiltrated' by the QLD Special Police in the Joe Bjekle Peterson days.
