Fabric/Leather/Paint Protection

I hate the Hard Sell attitude employed by dealers these days. When I sign to buy the car and the salesman then says, "I'll just introduce you to <insert name here>" I politely refuse and make my exit.

Once you have signed the person they invariably get you to talk to is always selling something; either the paint protection thing or a 'special deal' on finance.

I find it easier not to waste both their time and mine.

Hi

Just cancelled the "Protection Pack" on both purchases (Wife's getting a Nissan Maxima). Talk about the hard SELL!. I have had at least five calls from the each of the dealers' "girls" over the last 24 hours. Firstly reducing the price (Ford from $1695 to $1200 and Nissan from $1600 to $1250). I refused to accept either and just now recieved a call from the Nissan "girl" telling me she "could not believe that a professional person like you could be so INCOPETENT" - ENOUGH SAID!! :spoton::k24t:

uummm excuse me???!!!

that would have made my blood boil and as mentioned above, if/when I buy a new car again, I will take similar action to sharkey and just say there is no need to meet with these ppl.

I dont wanna rub any1 the wrong way here but I'm completly happy with my protection.

I do 40k's of limestone dirt roads every few weeks and the limestone literally sticks to the car - and limestone is a really harsh dirt.

Everytime I get home to adelaide I just give my precious a good bubble bath and she's as good as the day I bought her. I'd buy it again. :spoton:

From what I'm reading here though - some dealers are doing the dodgy on their clients...which I totally dissaprove of. I've said this before - but the thing that sold me was when they took me out and showed me how its applied and the before and after of 'straight after protection'....and then a few months of use with no other cleaning other than washing - no polishing etc...needless to say - small swirl marks and no swirl marks.

But its totally upto you - if you like polishing your car - dont bother cause u'll achieve the same result....if u just wanna 'wash and run' its still upto you - if you dont - that's cool....if u do...but dont pay to much for it.

If you're not happy with what your dealer is offering - dont buy it from them - theres heaps of places elsewhere that'll apply it.

Personally I like to just wash her off - then look at the pile of mud on the driveway...and then look at the car with still no scratches.

To me - proof speaks a thousand words - I've seen the proof of when its done properly - and I've also seen it when its not done properly - u need to see the evidence before u get it applied and make a personal decision for yourself.

Don't get me wrong voy74656 I will be getting paint protection - I do think it is worth it, I just won't be getting it from a dealer. Just rang the local detailer (near the Nissan dealership) quote = $985 for the lot. In closing she added "we do all the Nissan cars here."

:spoton: @ Voy.

I have MING and I'm wrapped. Maybe I paid too much for it, but now that I have it, I wouldn't be without it again. Next time I'll get it applied after the dealer, but I'm definately going to get it done to the GT.

Love the fact that a quick shampoo is all that's needed to restore a grubby precious to it's former (showroom) beauty.

But as soon as I was told by anyone that I was incompotent..no matter from what company...I would have cancelled the origional order and gone elsewhere. that's just not acceptable.

I just HAATEEEE seeing people paying out all this money that they worked for and just the delaers pissing it away on a half assed sh*t job that they consider acceptable! *takes deep breath*

But on the other hand - dealers arent all bad and I havnt had a bad experience yet - except with the sales guy who was "sign here please so I can run away and never talk to u again".

I'm completly satisfied with my paint protection - but its so easy to see where you could be ripped off. 1 - u cant see it; 2 - you wont know if its working until a few months after; 3 - if its not applied properly and it does last that long - who are they going to blame for it not working....

I dont know what it is....the dealers are only going to piss off their customers and only end up loosing future sales anyway.....why not just do the job properly the 1st time and make the customer happy - rather than save a few hundred bucks and jip the customer.

Here in adelaide I'm sure that a lotta sales all go by word of mouth - I bought mine from the same place as Vik and Lee - all by word of mouth - that's 3 sales.

Now if they screwed Vik or Lee over - and I heard about it....do u think I'd have bought my car from them as well.......*shakes head*

Its almost like a 'use and abuse' policy - get teh money - uve made a sale...dont care about future sales. wrong...just wrong I tell ya.

*sigh*....now I'm ranting....I swore I'd never do this.....*shuts mouth* :spoton:

Well it looks like paint protection may be the way to go IF it's done the right way and it doesn't cost the earth. I'm still keen to get aftermarket protection done, what should I find out before getting someone to do it? I know now not to settle for something that can simply be applied with buffing... Is there some kind of universal term for the right way to do it?

In the middle of confirming my xr6t purchase, and yes the pretty little blonde is trying to ram this sh*t down my throat.

The funny thing is though I screwed her down to $1200, and then she mentioned something about parcel shelf and back seats, but I didn't recall seeing these in my vehicle since it is a utility. With this is mind I told her if they did it for $800, given that you would expect a ute would be about 2/3 of the workload of a sedan I would take it. She will have to check with the boss and get back to me next week!

Having read this thread they can shove it for anything over the $800 - thanks for the heads up guys!

Correct me if I'm wrong: It looks like the average price for after market tinting is ~$300 (compared to the $495 the dealer quoted me - which they dropped to $395 without me even asking) and the average price for after market paint protection is ~$300 too (compared to the $595 I was quoted by the dealer). If I can screw the dealers price down to ~$650 for both, it might be worth doing. I saw an XR6 with tinted windows today and I must say it looked pretty nice :)

Has anyone else had any success in getting them that low? I went back to the dealer today to pick up my updated invoice without the tinting and the care pack and the woman went through the whole sales pitch all over again! I told her I wasn't interested in getting it anymore but I did take the opportunity to ask her what is involved in the "resin glaze" she was trying to sell me (again). She said it wasn't Ming protection, it is actually something used on Rolls Royces. It's definately not a polish that is rubbed onto the paintwork, it's a resin that is sealed onto the surface of the car.

I still told her to take it all off but it left me a little indecisive. What she was telling me seemed to be what everyone here says is the way to go (but the dealer is still charging WAAAAY too much for it). :birthdaywish:
