Fixing the BA PCM/ECU 'wont start cold' issue
RainingPistons replied to ValleyKing's topic in ECU Workshop
If the ecu connects to forscan you can grab the asbuilt files theres asbuilt files online for nearly every BA BF FG ecu abs etc everything just search the code on the ecu sticker as mentioned and type asbuilt files and look for either pcmhacking website or another ford forum and or the forscan Australia forums its all there -

THE UNFORTUNATE END TO ALL BA FORD FALCONS ARTICAL HERE! ALL BA PCM/ECU'S WILL ALWAYS FAIL THERES NO PERMANENT FIX ONLY TEMPORARY AT GREAT EXPENSE AS OF 2025 ITS 2K UPTO 3K FOR REPAIRS ITS NOT IF IT WILL FAIL ITS WHEN SADLY countless workshops have customers coming in for failed PCMs in the BA series Daily at one stage at its peak there had been 8340 people around Australia in 24 hours with BA PCM Failure Extensive Research and Automotive Experts have found the following. - so after doing tons of research again and speaking with Haltech, and Hootons harnesess which they done whats needed for the whole permanent fix on the Mighty Car Mods XR8 Series videos, so I found with the BA ECUs they actually used Lead Free solder, as to be more environmentally friendly which is why they ended up failing XR6T and XR8 Fail quicker because the engine bay temps are way higher but ALL BA PCM/ECU'S WILL ALWAYS FAIL ITS NOT IF ITS WHEN SADLY as it's 110% unavoidable but you can stretch the life of it for like 12 months by paying 2k to repair but even then it could break the next day because these BA ECUS are all bad and being 20 years old they are all moments away from failing the same way if you hit a pothole speed bump anything ready since all the BA ECUs are made the same way and there is no permanent fix its only all temporary only permanent solution is haltec which is all up 5 to 6 grand I was looking online just before to see if it was possible to reflow the joints with lead solder so that even the repaired ecus that you send to get repaired can be permanently fixed but it's basically impossible, so when you send you're pcm ecu to be repaired they have to use the lead free solder on the repaired ecu, which after asking a few people on the xr8 page and xr6T pages aswell they also confirmed they had to end up getting a whole stand alone haltech ecu setup which cost around 6k with all the adapter harneses and so on for the XR8 models and around 5 5500 for 6 cylinder models with the BTR 4 speed and manual versions which is a crazy price So when it went over that bump that would of caused that lead solder to end up cracking or snapping apart when was why when I poured boiling water over the ecu it was able to start up untill it cooled down and then wouldn't be connected to the solder and shut off So it would of happend any time any day anywhere and just driving to the shop then parking getting shopping you can come out goto start you're BA and it'll have cracked or snapped and won't work anymore if it does it'll have misfires or basically limp mode very sluggish and just absolutely terrible to drive which you can't avoid and eventually it'll snap or crack more and then it'll simply not start the car anymore and you're choice is either keep repairs them for 2-3k with prices rising weekly or go the haltech route 5-6k but beware if going haltech you're car is now illegal to be on the road and will be impounded instantly which is a real shame sadly but it's the same laws in all of Australia so basically the days of the BA FALCON are coming to a close and soon everyone will just have a garden ordiment to look at and remember all the memories it's sad but it's unfortunately how it is with the BA falcons, everything was fixed in the BF FG Models and this PCM issue is non exisistant in the BF FG Models but for BA sadly there time has come to a end. - Raining Pistons

Fixing the BA PCM/ECU 'wont start cold' issue
RainingPistons replied to ValleyKing's topic in ECU Workshop
Ah yep I'm sure with the barra surely someone has or is in works of somthing surely since I know the xr8 is abit more complex with those extra strategies ect that they need but the barra I really don't know why someone hasn't yet like it really shouldn't be that difficult for Falcons since people have done it for other ford models in the US and UK could possibly message some sort of Chinese workshop or programmer etc since they make heaps of stuff like kess v2 knock off's and basically every automotive tech things that's popular so I'm sure someone over there would easily be able to create somthing like the haltec and have it at a few hundred im sure of it, just maybe they don't know we need this might see if there's any sort of people who I can find that would be willing to make somthing similar ill do some research and see if I can possibly find anything useful that could possibly actually get this idea to a real product -

Ah yes speedruino I was looking into that but yea getting all the essential things for the falcon seems like a freaking nightmare possibly that's why no ones yet to make a budget ecu which you'd think after maybe 10 years someone would have, is you're a barra or a v8? And yea that's true 4.5k just to drive the car around normally and not need all the extras is crazy for the price hence why I've still got my xr8 sitting here after 2 years as I've never found anything worth spending that money on especially to just drive it around town even though it's a v8 to be fair I just can't warrant the cost of the haltec or the ecu repairs constantly for what the cars worth and it only has 205 thousand ks on it -

Also it was 1k just a few months ago to repair the ecus from injections now its gone upto 2k sadly so it'll keep rising and the ecus will keep rising in price so it's the best option to spend the 5k and get the haltec but depends on if you've warrent the 5k spend for the car but it's a option -

Yea that haltec plug in is 5k though, repairs for ECU 2k from injections so it'd quite costly especially since the repairs I've heard longest was like 3 years and the quickest failure was 3 months but yea it can be worked around if you do get the haltec setup but that is 5k 4k cheapest -
Fixing the BA PCM/ECU 'wont start cold' issue
RainingPistons replied to ValleyKing's topic in ECU Workshop
if its a XR8 then sadly the only way to fix these is by paying Injections 2 Grand to fix the ECU as it cant be cloned onto a NA ECU even if its a 4 SPD NA ECU as ive tried and been researching this for about 4 years and the only option is paying 2 grand to get it repaired if the repair is possible majority of the ECU's are not repairable but ones that are ive read that some can work for a couple years 2/3 years max and conk out again randomly and some can only last 12 months even less ive heard of some even failing 3 days to a week later and the cycle continues as it was a notorious issue with the XR8 ECU's sadly and it used to be 1 grand now recently put upto 2 grand and even if you find someone wrecking one with a ECU that might be damaged already and or even conk out the same its not why or how it happens its when it happens as its unavoidable with these XR8 ECU's which is why so many people are just scraping these XR8s because its that difficult to get a hold of these ECU's and even then its just a matter of time untill they conk out unfortunately ford really should of done some sort of Recall on these but never did and now its to late the prices of the ECU's are just going to go up in price and the more and more that conk out and cant be repaired eventually there will be no more to buy which is the real downfall of the XR8s that's why people sell them because one theres a stuffed ECU that's basically the end of the car because its nothing but ECU issues from then on so far the longest ive personally known of a XR8 repaired ECU to last was just shy of 2 years which is ridiculous when you think about all the money youll have to constantly spend on ECU's and the price just keeps rising for these ECU's if its a Barra 6 Cylinder then the 6 cylinder ecus can be reflashed but the boss 260 xr8 ones unfortunately alot of money is needed and also just the stress of thinking whens it going to conk out hopefully its not going to leave me standed today
