  1. Did changing the fluid make any difference to the performance of the box?
  2. Good karma for you Col, and no doubt would have saved someone some grief.
  3. Mine does the same thing, lumpy as hell when it's dead cold for about 5 - 10 seconds, then smoothes out nicely. Sounds excellent to me, and is one of the pleasures of cold weather driving. I have the Nizpro injectors, so I don't think it is a fault of your injectors. Perhaps it's a characteristic of bigger injectors generally. Any tuners care to comment?
  4. What a wimp. I drove from Canberra to get an xtreme makeover!
  5. I had all four out in a day hospital. In and out in about 3 hours. Could have gone back to work but wasn't allowed to. Didn't need the panadiene forte, and only had a couple of panadol as a precaution a few hours later. The next day was back to normal other than being careful with the eating. No swelling either. The doctor was excellent, and deserved all the bucks I paid to keep his porsche payments going.

    Holy Crap!

I certainly wish you luck Dan. Stock as a rock but 'vicious'? 4 years old but only 28,000 km?? If it sounds too good to be true........
  7. If your car is stock then you probably want to use the stock plug gap, which I think is 1.1mm. If you've had it edited then you probably want to go to the 0.8mm (or slightly less). I believe this is because higher boost levels can make it harder for the spark to travel between the electrodes at higher revs. The Ford gas plugs are fine, and come already gapped to suit an edited car. Changing the plugs is straight forward, but you will need an extension on the plug socket. I use a socket that positively captures the plug so it doesn't drop from the socket when you're doing it. I'd forget about the coils too. They're expensive, particularly if you want to buy 6 of them, and you'll soon know if one is stuffed.
  8. It wouldn't have done 50 1/4 mile passes in Canberra as we've still got no F*#king drag strip. Happy to help out a fellow Ford owner. PM me if you want me (and any others) to have a look. Being in Canberra we could send out a committee!!
  9. You're not wrong but the 3.5" Xforce split dump will get you to 400rwkw no problem. Much more than that I'd be going for a 4".
  10. I'm with you JP. I think the I6 is one of the great engines of all time.
  11. How about: Flat out like a one arm bricklayer in Baghdad Flat out like a lizard drinking Dry as a dead dingo's donger As useless as tits on a bull As useless as a one arm paper hanger Mad as a cut snake Mad as a meat axe For someone who is a bit thick - The lights are on but nobody's home
  12. Where from? That's a good price. I went down for the Easternats in Melbourne and spoke to the guys there. The price they gave me was $550 for the DBA 5000. Bugs, thanks for the tip. I think I'll get a couple of months out of them so I'll do some research in the meantime.
  13. Thanks guys, good advice. The DBA5000s sound like the go. Either way, I'll give Matt a call. I hope I can get a pad change out of the discs, but looking at the wear I'm not so sure. Cheers.
  14. Thanks for the link. What about the discs? They seem to be showing a bit of wear, so I was wondering whether to stick with the Brembos or go to something like the DBA 5000s. How much can you loose off the disc before it requires replacement?
  15. In a recent trip to Ford to get some warranty work done the Ford service dude said my brakes would need doing the next time I came in. The phoon has done around 55K and has the 4 spot Brembos. I'm very happy with the performance of the brakes but am concerned with the potential cost of replacing pads and rotors. I have a few questions for the experts on the forum: 1. What is the 'typical' life expectancy of the 4 spot Brembos pads and discs 2. What is the typical cost of replacement with same 3. What are reasonable alternatives of similar performance 4. What do the alternatives cost? Any help would be appreciated.
  16. Hey, don't apologize. Just keep your eyes peeled for a vibe (sparklie purple) BF phoon with black plates and that's me. Shame you missed the run to Cotter a few weeks ago, it was a hoot. There should be a few dyno days in Canberra in the coming months, so watch out for them. Quite a few of the local lads turn up , which is a great opportunity to catch up.
  17. No worries Blink, it was great to meet you and your navigator. We had a good time, although the poor kid in the Pulsar didn't. I wonder how he got on with his dad?? I found out what the noise was.......the 30mm front sway bar demolished the rod that connects it to the lower arm. (You were right Gav!!). All better now.
  18. Caltex...I think you're right.... the one on the right hand side of the roundabout as you're heading out of town going up the hill up Federal Highway (near the speed cameras). Plan as I see it: 0930 Meet at the Caltex servo. :hiwelcome: 0945 Head up Federal Hwy, right into Mac's Reef Rd for Bungendore for coffee & chat. 1045 Depart Bungendore for Cotter via Queanbeyan. Route past Queanbeyan includes Monaro Highway, right into Johnson Drive which becomes Woodcock, right into Jim Pike Ave, right into Point Hut Rd, Tidbinbilla Rd, Paddy's River Rd, Cotter Dam. :auto: Things to bring - CB radio or hand held, what ever you want to burn on a BBQ and wash it down, plenty of stories, maybe a spud (football), blow-up doll if you need a navigator . See ya in the morning
  19. Yep, mine too. It changes nice and firm depending on throttle position, and certainly much firmer than stock. From what I've seen (some of) the tables for the trans are accessible from edit. It will spin on the change into third if I want, and that's good enough for me. I can't see the ZF having any problems coping with grunt up to the limits of a stock bottom end if the edit is set up properly.
  20. Let's talk about it at the run on Sunday.
  21. My kids are coming, but they are revheads - take after their mother...... No worries about going for a drive. The comparison would be interesting as the 6 speed is such a brilliant box in my opinion. It's always in the right gear, and with the settings tweaked it changes so firm yet smoothly when you give it a hit. The biggest hassle is getting traction in first and second, but I don't mind that problem too much!! 350rwkw is a great number. What gearbox and bottom end are you running? Bugster is right, if you're running a 5 speed you'll soon find its limit. I'm running an Xforce 3.5" exhaust and it's fine for the sort of power you're after. If you're happy to wait a month or so I'll be able to offer you the exhaust, Nizpro cooler and intake piping for a good price.
  22. Just a tickle more now, Kit has had a play!! I'll let you know after the ESP Dyno Day on March 8th with the Skyline Club.
  23. Bugger! Hope it wasn't your drinking arm. So far we seem to have: exarsixturbo blink phoontastic angermagnt MS700 (maybe if behaves for missus) turbomuz phoontastic Dave C Can we all please confirm that 0930 at Ampol in Watson is the go. If not then preferred time.
  24. Piece of cake to fit. Hardest part is jacking up the car to get enough room underneath to do the work. Wish I had a hoist!! I have a spare 27mm front Whiteline sitting in the garage. PM me if you're interested.
  25. Watson to Bungendore takes about 20 minutes going down Federal Highway and Macs Reef Road. Drinking coffee and talking sh*te would take about an hour. Then a slow trip (yeh right) to Cotter would take about 45 minutes I'm guessing. That means if we left Watson at 0930 we'd probably be at Cotter by around 1200 or so.
