  1. Sounds like this re-opening will be a major local event. When is it on? I might bring the taxi down for a few runs as I am due to visit some clients down southern NSW. I might have to pull the finger out and get the wastegate sorted and install the extractors back on the car!! Maybe we can organise a good ol' Big Vic Weekend with some of the boys from NSW??? BVW IV? I think?
  2. The Teins and superpro bushes are a no brainer... the results in full street trim with the BA on 19" Maxxis tyres speak for themselves. I'll see how she goes once we start upping the power but will prefer to do a little r&d with Tunehouse to see if we can find a better and possibly more cost effective combo with the intension that is might be sold as a custom package through Tunehouse. My BA was one of the first to have the Tiens installed and there was a bit of work involved to get the setup and como right. Going the Teins sounds like the easy option but it might not be the best combo for the FGs? The BA Taxi has been a 6 year project were we did a lot of r&d and tried a number of combos for not only engine performance but chassis setup. It is amazing what the right wheel alignment will do for a car. It's been a lot of fun and I am looking forward to taking on the same approach with the FG. At this stage I am happy to drive a bog stock car...
  3. Well it's over a week and I have not modified it yet. Not even the air filter, no airbox mods, I dont think that I've even touched the motor yet ! I'm starting to stretch its legs and it is feeling better and better. It definitely needs suspension but I might try some sway bars (when they become available) before I go to springs and shocks. I jumped in the Taxi on the weekend and took it for a drive down to Tunehouse and boy what a difference after driving the FG for a week. You cannot compare the standard torque to 1200+ nm !! The car feels great and apart from a small rattle in the boot which I fixed in 2 mins the car is running well. I do not think that the clutch is going to hold on to much more power as I can feel that it is slipping already. I will try and get it on the dyno to see where the power is at before I take it to the creek and run some baseline numbers. Should be fun !!
  4. The ol' Taxi project is not yet finished. I now have a "spare" hence I can go a bit harder. The extractors are going back on (worth about 40 rwkw with less boost!!), the Turbo will get a freshen up and we will sort out the waste gate issue (it was struggling to mate over 16 psi over the last 6 months, suspect that the spring is stuffed) and the auto might also get a freshen up. Then we will consider a race tune on some good fuel and run it on slicks... Then see what the Taxi is capable of...
  5. Hey Guys, Picked up the new FG XR6T on Friday arvo 10km on the clock. Winter White 6 speed Manual Luxury Pack Tech Pack Safety Pack I drove it down to Batemans Bay over the weekend and the difference to the BA is very obvious. The FG seems so much more refined and feels a bit european. The build quality seems a lot better than the BA. Driving the FG with a manual really does the Turbo motor justice. You can appreciate the low to mid torque spread in these cars. It will be interesting to see how it feels with a tweak on the tune, suspension and perhaps a brake upgrade. Although Tunehouse has upgraded, setup and tuned many FG's, this is going to become a project car where it will have the Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3... kits installed and I will be running it at WSID to backup the dyno figures with some numbers. The autos are relatively easy to get some good numbers (as long as you can get off the mark cleanly) but the manuals always seem to be falling behind. Hence here lies the challenge. I'm quite happy driving a stock standard car atm. The pressure is on already from my mates and the guys at Tunehouse to modify it. So far it has been about 5 days and I have not even considered putting a K&N in it! (I think that is pretty good for me) The question is... How long do you think that the car will remain stock before the first modification?
  6. If you guy are going to come up to Sydney then make sure you either come on test and tune day or after a big meeting. The track does not get a lot of track prep work for the Wicked Wednesday nights!!
  7. The ZF was more than flaring it could barely turn the tyres during the burnout and Dario reported that it was taking ages to change gears. Not a bad effort for a full weight car on ET streets with a stufded box ... I saw the 10.2 sec run and that car of yours, Phil, is definitely going to run in the 9s. I took some video with someone elses video camera. I will try and get the footage. John_K, 121MPH on street tyres is moving!! You should be able to run a mid to high 11 sec pass on the street tyres if you can only get that first 330ft sorted.
  8. Mine is running about 380rwkw when I ran the 11.18s pass on the Maxxis. I was running 420 odd rwkw when I ran the 11.15s pass. I have pulled the exhaust manifold off and it is back to 380rwkw when it last ran a 10.9 a few weeks ago. You get to a certain level and then the track conditions play a very major role. Having more power only helps when you can get it to the ground otherwise you get too much wheelspin and the ETs go backwards !! There has been quite a bit of R&D and trial and error to get the car to run these numbers on street rubber. The guys at Tunehouse have played with the tune, the way it comes on boost, the way it brings on the torque, the shift settings in the 4sp, suspension setup everything counts. My car has been a develpoment car for them for the last 5 years and what has been learned is being applied to other customer cars. It's pretty interesting stuff when you can be part of the process and feel the difference in every change.
  9. That is the plan but I have not pulled the finger out to do it. These Maxxis seem to be lasting a bit longer than expected. I might have to take them out to WSID on wednesday night and try a bit harder to kill them! (I will try and get it on video!)
  10. I have backed up the 11.18 run with an 11.15 and a couple 11.2s. You definitely need a good track but I recon a 10s pass on the maxxis is possible. They have copped too many heat cycles and the rubber is falling apart. Last time I went out on a Saturday, on a dirty & cold track I could only manage mid to high 11s It's a lot of fun'!
  11. The Maxxis are a $200 odd dollar entry level performance tyre. Very cost effective street tyre! I have gone unstuck wheelspinning at 1/2 track a couple times going into a fish-tail at about 160km/h. Not so much fun when you are facing the wall! The 17" Toyo RA-1s should be a better tyre being an r-spec compound with a bit more tyre crush on take off. I am going to try a 19" Federal tyre as I have been told that they work well once you get them warmed up. If anyon has had any experience at the track with a good 19" tyre the feedback would be appreciated.
  12. Sounds like it was a good night... I'm sorry that I could not attend due to last minute work commitments. I hope everyone learned a little bit more about these cars.
  13. No problem... One of the mods can hopefully add you to the list. Hi Benny, Good question, I don't know the answer. It will be added to the list... Great ... we'll add you to the list.
  14. I was told last weekend that I needed a harness at WSID too !!?!
  15. The box was built through Tunehouse in Sydney and they tune and service my car. They have done all the work from new.
  16. There is nothing wrong with these boxes as long as they are built properly. Mine has survived 380 odd rwkw, 45000km and over 50 passes at WSID and still shifts well with minimal slip. This is over a 3 year period where is has run 10 sec passes whenever I've gone out with semislicks.
  17. What date is that on?
  18. Jimmy, that is pretty bloody consistent. The track definitely was not as good as some of the ordinarily prepared Wednesday nights. I was running high 11s where as I would usually run mid to low 11s on the Maxxis. It will be good to see what the car can do with a well prepared track. With that MPH you should be able to get into the high 10s but you need to get a good 60' launch.
  19. Hey Rob haven't seen you around for a while. Catch up on the night.
  20. I've had plenty of practice on those Maxxis, slipping and sliding everywhere during the last few outings at WSID. I was watching him drift around from the start but did not expect him to lose it like that.
  21. 3000 rpm...
  22. It was a good day out but there were only a few XRs out there. I had 5 runs: 16.9@96MPH - Charger bounced off the wall in front of me, see video below 11.7@121MPH - Wheelspin 1st and 2nd 12.9@91MPH - Fried them in 1st and 2nd and then backed off 11.8@??MPH - as above It got frustrating and I ended up leaving at about 2:30pm and went and picked up a second hand set of ET Street in 16" rims from a guy and returned. Went home swapped the Maxxis with the ETs went back out to WSID. The car felt pretty wobbly at the rear with the taller tyres and I was not too confident with them so I decided to leave the pressures up higher. 10.9@125MPH 1.66 60 footer. Got booted again
  23. That is absolutely mind blowing... Top Stuff Dave. What weight is the car running? What slicks are you using. Is that still on the stock BA bottom end ? Dave, you are the man!!
  24. Hey Rob, I guess smashing all of those CVs is going to put a little bit of pressure on the diff! ... Gotta hand it to you, you really know how to test the gear !! Too bad that you cant make it. Its a bit cloudy but the forecast is no rain. Should be a good day. I'll be out there today...
  25. There are a few more guys that I spoke to this week that are going to turn up but they are too lazy to log in and put their name down. Should be a good night... The more the merrier !!
