New Btr Stall Converter Approach...custom Made Standard Converter
GTEXXED replied to GTEXXED's topic in Driveline Workshop
OK,I made a minor mistake and its 1.66,I got confused with the 1.72 I did also. The other two were 1.80 and the first pass of the day off idle basically netted a 1.91 60ft.- 160 replies

New Btr Stall Converter Approach...custom Made Standard Converter
GTEXXED replied to GTEXXED's topic in Driveline Workshop
I have never done this before but I might just try and crack a deal with a trans guy, don't know if I can wait till mid next year and make you's wait for that matter. This converter needs to be in a proper box and not tested half arsed at the track. What I have is fine for daily but that's about it. I needed to keep the psi launch the same for testing data,I also had my MT's on last meeting.I was going to do a big stall but just didn't puck up the balls to do so.When I ran the 1.62 she felt like she slipped on the 1-2 so maybe holding her on boost a little longer to cut a good light caused this. When I did the 1.6 the light was a 570.The trans was just not like she was last meeting so this basically made the decision for me. Yesterday was about the converter so I had to keep it real so to speak.Hows this,my MT's are over 7 years old and are "blemished items".So,how long are MT's supposed to last, these launch without even seeing smoke in the burnout.- 160 replies

Ahhh yeah not the best to compare to a ute as they have a small disadvantage on launch over us IRS sedans. I just thought I would ask as you seem to be getting the most out of your power,no point comparing to someone who cant drive lol.- 160 replies

How much boost and power was used to get the 1.70 60ft in your signature. Was it on E85 and did it have a built trans and stall converter? Just trying to compare my 1.62 using 350rwkw,std trans/stall speed and pump fuel.- 160 replies

I am using the BTR trans.I have 275 ET streets and have got the throttle control on launch down pat,I don't just smash the pedal after launch. You said you did this S3 and S4 mod TurboTorana, was it done on a BA as I tried it and only got limp mode.- 160 replies

He is a weird one that pink car driver...... Anyway, managed to go 11.35@122mph today in fairly warm weather and 40kmh/r plus head wind.My 60ft was 1.62 but due to trans slipping more than usual I lost out big time in the top end to the tune of over 3mph.The car seemed to slip for the first time on the 1-2 change also but not surprising on the other hand.

Who else has run a 1.62 60ft with a std stall rate/size and 4psi launch......this tells me it's working well.If I had dialled up 6psi I think she would have went 1.5x on the 60ft.BTW,the rpm when flashing the converter is only 2100,he is in the process of doing one that's 2600 stall for me to test next year,Ill make sure she is built by then.I will buckle down and save but means I need to keep low key on track scene, spectate if you will lol. Unless this converter lasts 10,000kms and when open looks new still then it might not be for the performance market. Appreciate the comments.- 160 replies

Today was a nightmare, lots of oil downs and interrupted schedule.Just got home but not before nearly having a tiff with one of the staff at the whole in the wall.....that's for SA members thread haha. All I was hoping for today was to 60ft better than the old std converter with same psi at launch,I managed that one.The other icing on the cake was the PB with the slipping trans, well more than last meeting. My tenth at the start never equated to the usal two tenths I get at the end due to lack of drive in 2-3 change. It takes 50 yards or so to change gear lol. With these things in mind and 350rwkw on pump I think I have done well, well enough to back up the number I make on the dyno.To run this number with a 45kmh/r head wind and 29* air....yeah I am happy lol. Things can only get better, with a built trans to hit shift points and E85 added(keep her at 350rwkw though)she will run a 10.I honestly think a low 1.5 is their with these things in the mix. She will be put back to daily/skid duties now as I don't want to blow the trans at the track,it's funny how she can handle 3rd gear skids no worries but not like the simple WOT runs.Shifting into 3rd with wheelspin goes in quite quick with no slip at all. Goran ran 11.2@123mph from memory with a 1.8 60ft.His first run was rather hectic but he steered well a kept hold of her......think he crossed centre line.He ran 102mph to half track.- 160 replies

The trans is doing ok but still *beep*,she has run 124mph so she is back to the mph but that run I fluffed the 60ft with 1.8 so only 11.5ET. Have only had four runs today as it is so busy here. I tried the S3 and S4 solenoid mod and it went into limp mode. I would build the trans if I had the funds so until then I'll just have fun using the std trans. Does anyone think 1.6 60ft is good using 4psi?- 160 replies

That run was using 4psi,starting to get 2nd gear slip now also.Another BTR will bite the dust today maybe. I went over 1 tenth quicker on the 60 but didn't get that gain in the top end as the trans is gay as aids,no 10 today I recon....not unless I get a non slip 1-2 and only little slip on 2-3.- 160 replies

Hot out here today but still have PB already. Ran a 1.66 60ft and [email protected] gear is slipping more than ever but the stall is doing wonders for my half track times.- 160 replies

He is correct in that it will want to overboost from standard settings which will create boost cut and cause possible engine damage. The car will need a tune to go with the exhaust, you may as well add some injectors and better cooler to the mix if you don't already have them. Welcome.

I cant wait.

Try and get a MK11 also as it will have better valve springs etc.

Another observation is the much faster down shift when in performance D.I would normally need more than half throttle to get her to kick back to 1st at 50kmh/r,now with just under half throttle it shifts back much faster and just gets going quicker. Did about a 1/3rd of a tank driving today and with the air conditioner on most of the time,I can definitely say the car has been given back a little torque now when air con is running and shifts back just as quick as without no air con. I'm hoping the weather doesn't get to much hotter etc tomorrow,it's allready got 45% humidity and 30* forecasted. Not the best weather for kids.- 160 replies

Im just in two minds wether to dial up 10psi or more and go for the 10.My 1.75 60ft was done with only 2psi. I think ill launch as per normal to get good back to back results and when night comes go for one good one with a tow truck on standby. I hope we get a good turnout of turbo Fords out on Saturday.- 160 replies

Just remember the gains were in a car that weighed 300kg less so in reality it wont get the same gains in a heavy B series. His fuel economy went from low 500s the 750+ per tank in the EL. Did they tell you that when Bruce and scotty drove my car he said it smoked allot harder than Goran's?I am not sure what kind of car this is but Bruce used it as a benchmark some what. They said mine felt more lively on gear changes and through wheel spin from memory and that's at std stall and my car has less power apparently on paper.- 160 replies

Depending on intake temps etc it is highly possible 12psi was reached in the mid range, peak would have been 8 or 9psi. I heard it was running E10 also. -

Converter is still the std size housing which means more oil is in the system so this can't be a bad thing, especially if it can get very close to a high stalls launch but with the other obvious gains. My only gripe is that my idle has raised a little.- 160 replies

As a matter of interest what would be the sealer for one of you guys to purchase one, what areas of feedback would you like to be reported, what is the bottom line/s for most. I am taking this testing quite seriously and have quite a few different areas being graded so to speak. Who out there has taken the factory stall converter deep into the 11s or 10s so that if you purchase this you can see the difference in the two on the track. It just seems allot go straight to a TCE/Dom when chasing a good time.Comparing it to a high stall isn't fair as is comparing the high stall to the custom std converter. If another converter can be reworked to have 2800rpm stall and still retain all the features I currently have in this test converter then it will be a good thing.- 160 replies
